Description
A story that has caused endless speculation among Halo fans on Game Informer has now been denied by Bungie while the developer claims it was a crude April fool's story by the magazine.

It all started when a member of a Bungie forum stated that he had read Game Informer and was disappointed by the Halo 3 exclusive details revealed there. The user had apparently previewed Game Informer magazine's April issue and shared some information regarding the most anticipated game never to have been announced.

The story suggested that the game would not be called Halo at all but Forerunner. Other details revealed included huge environments, a four player co-op mode and open-ended gameplay. There was also the concession that Bungie may decide to name the game Halo 3: Forerunner. Knowing Microsoft however it would be more likely that the game will be called Halo:ME Business Edition in order to signify the higher production values and the commitment to quality although the possibility of 6 versions also sounds likely. The story went on to suggest that a modified Halo 2 engine would be used to render the huge world of Forerunner.

Since then Bungie's Frank O’Conner, under the handle Frankie, has appeared on a Bungie fansite forum and has debunked the story as an April fool's joke. Since Game Informer subscribers get their copies in mid-March and since the writer thought it wise to include the following statement in the story: ...and no, this is not an April Fool’s joke..., we can only hope that it is just a journalistic error and not an April fool's joke as that would have to be the crudest prank carried out against gamers since Duke Nukem Forever got a release date.

More news about the next Halo is expected around E3 2006 time so stay with MG for further info.
