PS3? Naaah... For the cost of the console alone you could buy a decent TV, a Wii and some games for the Wii. And I almost laughed my ass of when Sony bragged about the hardware "numbers". I mean, it's just the raw numbers, not the numbers that matter. Too much bottle-necking in that console to make it as powerful as they say. Anyways, in the end you are playing PSone, just with better graphics, do we want that? Eyecandy in games are for 11 year old kids, gameplay and play way ftw. Games are not to look at, they are to be played. If you want something to look at I know a great museum, or porn sites if you like. Same old, with a new skin. Gl hf to you Sony fanboys. Sony, get innovative please, I'm sick and tired of the analog stick. So in 4-5 years your PC will STILL be more powerful then your PS3 or Xbox360 as you cannot upgrade those. If you DON't own a high or mid-range PC, then consoles are a good substitue. Will you be satisfied with the PS3 in 4-5 years for it's graphics? If so. You don't need to upgrade your PC as from day one your PC will out run the PS3 and Xbox360 ;)

Actually, a PC card of the same power if not more when the PS3 is released will be less. The 7900GTX or XTX1900XTX in November will sell for $299.99 as the R600 and the G80 will be out by then. Those new High-End cards that will offer considerable more power then the Xbox360 Or the PS3 will sell for $599.99
In otherwords. The PS3 is not worth it at $599.99

I don't think handhelds are there just yet for FPS.
Gotta give Nintendo credit though, they change the way games are played. Even if it sometimes seems like you need a third hand for the DS. The New Super Mario Bros. game looks awesome, it will probably be one of the few reasons for me to buy a DS.The touch screen really isnt why the DS is outselling the PSP. The DS was released way before the PSP, and is better established. Nintendogs has sold more DS systems than probably any game that has been a system-seller (Halo, RE4, MGS, etc). The DS is much cheaper, and the Japanese market loves redesigns like the DS-Lite.
I heard that last month the DS outsold the PSP almost 7 to 1 in Japan. Sony could probably make a add-on attachment for the PSP so we could have a second analog stick, since there is a USP port in the top. Then that would allow programs to give us the option in game 1 analog or 2, then that would change the controls in the games depending on which you select. There will probbaly be a redesign of the PSP so then they could redesign the additional stick into the PSP and already have a library of games that are supporting it.
Will this happen? probably not, but its something for me to hope for. I have no doubt though, if there is a "PSP2" a few years from now, it will have 2 analogs. To summarize what CliffyB said at E3, "its about the quality of the programing, not just the power".
Not in those exact words, but you get the idea.

Where SonyPS1/2/3 and MicrosoftXbox/Xbox360 are mostly innovative it its software like creating new and interesting stories such as MGS (yes I know it wasn't originally on the PS), or Halo (not much of a Halo fan personally), Nintendo is staying alive by being innovative in its hardware and continuing on old franchises such as Mario, Zelda, Metroid.
....interesting. All 3 systems will have their pro/cons, and that is why I plan on owning all 3 of them. :-)

Between the paltry 128bit memory interface G71 gpu inside thge ps3, don't expect miracles Guruboy. As you claim and Sony with all these Tera Flops, the GPU is still hampered by bandwidth issues because the GPU is crippled. The Cell won't be handling the Graphics Guruboy. The GPU will.

Wow. I will make you look silly right now. Go to any review of Elder Scrolls:Oblivion. One of the most demanding titles out now. The Xbox360 will run that game solid at 720 HD resolution. A PC with a 7800GTX or XT1800XT or better with a $300 AMD 3800+ CPU will run that game at 1600x1200 with FSAA+AA 4x and 8x. Faster then the Xbox360.
With a XTX1900XTX you can add HDR to that running at 35FPS.

added to that, NO PC cpus can do anything close to the Cell. Cell's interconnect system yields transfers up to the 100s of GB/S. Direct chip to chip transfers in GPCPUs? only in the 10s. You're looking at over in my state, if i buy PS3 and two games for it at ($59.99) the total with tax would be 770.37... to some people, this is a house payment, rent, car, groceries... It's not SONY taking a risk... it's YOU taking a risk. I'm not high on bluray or the cell processor... i just bought a 360 yesterday and im glad i did... i wont touch PS3 i wanted to until i heard about the ridiculous price! it's going to hurt them a lot... so ill own a 360 and a Wii (for the kids haha.)

Sony is taking a risk by forcing you to buy a console with Blu-Ray. They should have done it as a add-on to give you a choice. However THAT was not their plan.
teh truth there is a article recently where they factor in inflation from prices of all consoles of the past. At $499.99 or $599.99 factoring inflation to todays standards is still too much for a console launch.
Oh. The $499 PS3. Does not have HDMI slot. So no HDTV resolutions for gaming or Movie visuals! EVER.

Well ...I've bought every Console since the "Intellivision" ...including the "Neo Geo" with it's $200-$300 game carttridges.However ...I will "NOT" buy the PS3 at launch do the high probability of numerous problems/defects ...including that "s**t" Blue-Ray format. For less problems & less price price ..Sony should have used just used the standard DVD format.
Like others have said here ...possibly will buy a year later after a price drop & all the bugs are worked out. I will buy Nintendo's "Wii" at launch & already own a Xbox 360.

Sony is risking it all on the playstation 3 and Blu-ray, IMHO i have the feeling that both will fail due to their price.the PS3 isnt a gaming console, its a blu-ray media center in disguise. Sony could have released the PS3 a while ago (and put in a blu-ray player as an attachment), but they need people to buy into blu-ray (its clear that gaming is only seccondary). They are trying to use the same tactics that made the playstation 2 so popular (a dvd player), but this time they have to deal with the xbox 360, HDDVD, bad profits and bad public relations.

HD-DVD disks will cost almost 75% less then Blu-Ray disks. The Player is 50% less then a Blu-Ray player. Gee...this sounds SOOOO much like the VHS Betamax war. VHS won that war on price alone. And because all consoles render Graphics and physics via the GPU, NOT THE CPU. 128BIT MEMORY interface is meager to todays GPU's. Even GPU's 3 years ago!
Why do you think the PS3 will not render any games at 1080? Nor will they be able to run any games using FSAA+HDR? Too bandwidth intensive and the G71 inside the PS3 cannot do HDR+FSSAA. The XBOX360 can with its 10m of EMBEDDED DRAM. So please don't feed us this crap that the PS3 is sooo much more powerful then the Xbox360.

Blue-Ray is going to end up as the once same expensive BETAMAX.
As for the most powerful console...Too bad that statement is not shared with 2 of the industries most regarded game programmers EVER. John Carmack and Tim Sweeney. Listen to what they said about both consoles. ;) Oh and the fact that both the Xbox360 AND the PS3 only have GPU's that run on a 128bit memory bandwidth! My 9700pro has more bandwidth with its 256.

SO then you can all buy a cheap 360 if you must, or a Wii and then wait for a price drop on either PS3 selection and itll be a win win! The fact that Blu-Ray players cost so much is a REASON to spend $600 on the most powerful gaming console ever, which includes a Blue-Ray drive.Btw, BR-ROMS don't cost $19, they're actually in the $25 range. Then again, look how friggin much they hold! 25GB! It's not like the price won't drop anyways...

Lets be honest guys, the reason people don't like the PS3 is because the blu ray player makes it so expensive - whats worse is that sony are forcing their customers to buy the player, even although blu ray movies won't be mainstream for at least 3 years - meaning the blu ray player ur paying so much for is next to useless.

I'm a huge Sony fanboy, but I won't get a PS3 until a price drop (mostly cause I'm poor). But thinking they won't sell out the 5 million is stupid. Do you know how consumer buying works? They could charge $800 and it would sell. Will the majoriy of 'smart gamers' buy it? Maybe not. But you sure ass hell better bet that the mooks that really don't know whats in the system will buy it. "OMG PS3!!! THAT'S 1 BETTER THAN 2!!!"

The PS3 will own no matter what, not because i love playstation but its true, my friend owns 360 n is going to own a Wii and hes not rich but he is a hardcore gamer n the only reason hes buying it is cause its a gameing rig n a blue-ray player for what $600 bucks not to mention that it has the Cell n the nvidia GPU!!! And we all know nvidia kick arse. The system has alot going for it, i rather have vibration then motion sensors i hope they release a control that has vibration i rather have that with the boomerang controller i loved it even if it was a bit stupid it was unique. Oh well i'm going to get one no matter what i'll just give it some time my PC already owns 360 in graphics sooo yeah waiting to see what PS3 can deliver.. LaterZ

i only know one person who will buy a ps3, and thats only because of blind faith, he 'knows' the ps3 will beat the xbox360, because he owns a ps2 and would never buy a nintendo as they are 'kiddie' systems and xbox are microsoft rubbish

Financial losses? What the hell are you talking about?? The Playstation 1 and 2 were the highest selling consoles of there times. As if they would be at a loss with Blue Ray. The simple fact is, sony will sell 5 million units, plus more. The tiny minority on megagames who wont be buying a ps3 is insignificant. The millions who want a ps3 will buy one.

Sony is doing the EXACT same mistakes Nintendo did in the mid Ninties.
i.e. arrogance, refusing to innovate (sticking to cartridges) and most importantly...charging high profit royalties on developers (which made them jump ship and join Sony...like Square-Enix)

Know one knows what Sony is thinking. They are high on something. No rumble feature on the controller? High price tag? Dev kits not out to most developers. Including the largest ones? Gambling Blu-ray will sell when its 2x the cost of HD-DVD and 10 times that of regular DVDs? This console is dead in the water already

Guruboy. This is why Sony's PS3 will fail. Failure is all written over this console. Ego. Price. Sony is gambling big time that Blue-Ray and it's sky rocket price will succeed. Only problem with that is MS is in the shadows with a bank roll larger then Sony has and is willing to use it. The PS3 is doomed at the price they they weant to sell it at.
Don't expect that first price drop until well late into the year if not later do to poor, poor cell cpu yields. The MS xeon DOES NOT HAVE THAT ISSUE. tHEY ARE PLANNING TO BUNDLE PRICE DROP WHEN THE ps3 IS RELEASED. SONY SCREWED THEMSELVES WITH THIS ONE.
We won't even mention the increased interest in the Wii console. More pains for Sony.
