higher capacity means squat if studios use a relic of a video codec on the disc. aka. mpeg2 on blu-ray when they should be using h.264
|
Anonymous
at 20:42 27/9/2006

Yeah, bulls**t. If they did, they wouldn't use the "Cost" argument (which is also BS). A lower capacity disc, to any sane human, logicall contains a higher-quality video stream. It's that simple, anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about data capacity. I ebt they've ignored the "Native JAVA environment" thing too huh?

AVSForums aren't biased, they just don't give a toss about Sony or MS. The only thing they are concerned with is multimedia at it's highest quality.

Sony is a bad liar. GTA4 wont be PS3 only. Sony was slow releasing Developer kits. Sony lied about production start. Developers dont need/use 25gigs. When was the last time you saw game on more than one Dual Layer DVD? And now they screw the UK. Megagames ragged on M$ before and after the launch of 360. Why should sony get a break? Thats called being fair.

Blu-Ray now supports h.264, so that argument is out. Megagames seems mega-biased against the ps3. im no fan but its just un-professional.

Anon @ 1:6 your a bit slow mate. so let me spell it out for you. until the studios start using h.264 on blu-ray hd-dvds will be superior picture quality. hd-dvd has support for the newly released audio standards, blu-ray doesn't. so please, enlighten us all with your superior knowledge of why blu-ray is better. don't say space, because no one needs it at the price its at.

im pretty convinced that blue-ray is better than HDDVD, but im more conviced that HD-DVD will win. it wont matter whats "better" but what will win. BD may have more space, but all the idiots releasing BD are using mpeg2 for no reson. HDDVD is a little more limited on space, so they use H.264. IMO thats what BD needs to be doing more, but they arent.

HD-DVD or Blue-ray... I perfer Blue-ray, its data capability is 3x more then HD-DVD. For me i perfer larger, as prices go down there will be a burner cheap enough in about two or 3 years yep. Enough to fit my porn collection hurray.

The manufacturing cost is exactly the same. I don't know where the hell you buy you're blu-ray stuff from but they must have a 2-3 times markup.

Setting aside price and availability of Blu-Ray, it has much better array of features than HD-DVD. HD-DVD just recycled all the fckups from DVD and Blu-Ray improved upon that to deliver much easier i/o access for programmers as well as multisession support for consumers. Only thing is wrong with it is ridiculous price.
