So anyhow, the processor is called Broadway and it IS BASED ON a gamecube setup, (gekko,flipper) but not the same chip. (400MHZ Cube vs 800MHZ for the Wii) So the Wii is twice the speed of the Cube with a new processor and a new graphics card. I hope this clears things up.
*According to an article on the IGN Web site, Wii will run "on an extension of the Gekko and Flipper architectures that powered GameCube." The "Broadway", Wii's CPU, which is made by IBM, packs 729MHz of power. Wii has 24MBs of "main" 1T-SRAM on board and an additional 64MBs of "external" 1T-SRAM -- for a grand total of 88MBs of RAM [ref].*

While the Wii may be conceptually similar to a gamecube, (not gonna argue with Myamoto) it is NOT an overclocked gamecube processor. Look it up people, try google, it's supposed to be good. LoL.It's not a huge graphics leap, but the Wii is better than the cube. Having an analog "point it anywhere" type cursor is what has made PC games rock for quite some time, and this is Nintendos answer to that trend. I predict many PC game ports just because it will be simple to do so. Gimme Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and Simcity 4 on the Wii Nintendo! C-Ya

whoa what are you doing in my pants? If you don't think the Wii controller is accurate enough to use in a first person shooter or any fun game then YOU don't know what is good. Know it is not top of the line because Nintendo wanted it to be cheap. I will say it again. Even if the Wii is a game cube over clocked it is not about the power it is how you use it lol.

at 13:1motion-sensing may be accurate if you are a 12 year old with no ability to realize what is good or not based on reasonable data. you were probably one of the many that were "wow'ed" by this seemingly "new" technology. the controller is a piece of s**t. it's a gimmick. the hype will die out soon.

ok, so i posted the miyamoto retort to raiden BUT i aint saying wii is no good, just that theres no point pretending its something it aint. I already have a gc and tbh i dont need another 1 with a fancy remote.I already have 6 consoles under my tv and 2 gaming pcs so i got enough to keep me going.

Anyone know if we will be able to play games like Smash Bros online with the wii?And btw no one here can really make a correct prediction on which console is going to be better. Wii is most assuredly NOT an overclocked Gamecube, so please just stop with that nonsense. Nor does the current Wii have any type of DVD player.What Nintendo has always had is innovation and fun. Check it out. ALL of these are Nintendo inventions that have been copied by Sony Standard Crossbar.
Shoulder Buttons.
Analog joystick.
Rumble Force Feedback.
Complete 3-d freedom in game.
Motion Sensing Controller.
(although the Sony Six Axis controller is actually more similar to a Microsoft Sidewinder that came out in the 90s) Nintendo is back on top because they remembered how they got there the first time. They have once again made games more fun to play.

I’m sure most people that purchased a PS1 at launch can remember how truly bad the graphics and game play were of the original game line ups. The controls in the games were equally as bad, and I remember throwing those near indestructible PS1 controllers more than a few times. But over time developers learned to use what they had, and even though PC games looked better there were dozens of PS1 games that had superior gameplay and originality. The controls too developed over time, along with peoples skill using the many buttoned design, and the now standard PS controller is almost second nature to most gamers.The Wii will no doubt follow the same path. Time is needed to perfect code methods and control methods. This is the first time that motion sensing has been used to this extent, where it is more than a fringe function and actually a primary control method. Old light guns may at first feel like the same gimmick, but I never had as much fun with those old guns as I did playing around with the Wii controller.

you have not played the wii. flicking your wrist to achieve a better response than swinging your arm for bowling shows how horrible the controls are. for zelda? just shake the controller and push a few buttons to sword fight. graphics look worse than some games from the late 90's. once the hype and bulls**t surrounding this "motion-sensing" gimmick dissolves, the ps3 will take its rightful place on top as a next-generation console. motion-sensing is not innovative. it is old technology. and the idea of aiming with your controller to shoot has been around since the first nintendo's light gun. those of you who support wii are either 12 years old, 40+ years old, or bought the system, realized the waste of money and are trying to trick yourselves into thinking it is good.

What are you guys talking about, the Wii rocks. If you find it hard to control then you suck at gaming. It is way better for first person shooters. It does rock. I still like PC better but the Wii is not bad. It is different and I like it because it is not the same old same old from the early 90's. Also why buy a PS3 when the 360 is better.

And i forgot...All wii games are actually gamecube games...Wii gt is a 2003 game...and at least on gamecube you can play it with a force feedback wheel...Other games are games that even when reviewed by gamecube standards they barely scored a 5 from 10 and that was years ago...The only game that could make bying a wii is a cheaply made port and sadly the popural game sites don't admit it..Zelda is exactly like the gamecube version but with the new control.They could added voice now that wii has a proper dvd drive but they didn't...They could had added some better textures but they didn't....
And don't even think that i am a ms or sony fan....

Where to begin with if you want the best platform and have the money buy a pc.Yet power is not everything and you can find some great games on consoles.The problem is that wii is actually a overclocked gamecube...IT HAS THE SAME CPU AND GPU THEY JUST OVERCLOCKED THE CPY 50% AND THE GPU 33% AND doubled the ram...Thats pathetic considering that gamecube is 6 years old and when it was realesed it was slower than xbox...

On paper, G80 is 4 times faster than PS3 RSX chip! Has superior shader model, vertex and pixel shaders... Not only Xbox360 gpu is superior to PS3 RSX, has unified shader architecture and over 80 milj more transistors than RSX. Any idiot here calling PS3 superior, do your HOMEWORK!

I think its gonna be something like this. Hardcore part will be 50% xbox 30% PS3 (price) and 30% wii(price,innovation) since no matter what if you played Oblivion type of games, Doom1 wont exite you anymore. But a side of the 30%, I believe Wii will also bite a big share of the non gamers making it a clear winner. Well thats just my personal opinion

Think the problem with consoles is what classes as next gen now?
PS3 and xbox360 have better graphics allow if your playing them on a non hd tv there not that much better. The wii has gone for less power but make the player feel more like there in the game then sitting arounding bashing buttons.
The next round should be good I think microsoft and sony will go for a mix off the wii and horse power and Big N will use some new kind of tech again to get players more in the game maybe cyber implants??

7 minute's to sell all pre-orders on amazon.co.uk definitely says something - (i managed to pick one up!) ..... I'd just like to know how many pre-orders they took!? ...... Nintendo will make a solid impact on the next generation (but realistically I think Xbox360 will have the majority market share - Too Human anyone!!!?). But as long as the PS3 gets put in its place i'll be happy!
