I think if nintendo would go along with the plans to commit themselfs to games, they would loose a lot of money because less people will be intrested in a older console the new consoles. Sony and Xbox will proberly get more people to by there consoles then an gamecube. At the moment I think nintendo's Gamecube is the best console ever to hit the world. But all this could rapedly change because some people would get rid of there Gamecube to get ps3 or xbox2. Personly I would never replace my Gamecube for ps3 or xbox2. I am sure that if Nintendo should bring out a nothere console they would carry on dominating the console war.

this site has a serious hard on for the xbox, they almost smear nintendo, the GC is actually the most capable machine on paper, with expansion slots, and by far the most efficent system, it REALLY is the best, forget opinion, this is fact. The only thing the xbox has on the cube is Halo, the excellent hard disk and 5.1 sound, thats it! Graphiclly the cube really is better, with 15 million poly/s with 8 effects!!!!! (PS2 6 million 4 effects, Xbox 17 million 4 effects)
lack of DVD isn't an issue beacause the xbox and ps2 are bad DVD players!! and for the exact price of an xbox with the dvd up grade or a PS2 with a remote control, u can buy a GC AND a better stand alone DVD player. AS for games, by Xmas, the cube will reign supreme

If you don't believe me, take any game from GC and compare the smoothness of the textures, crisp look of the water, or detail of shading and lighting to the same on any game from PS2.

ok, now if the facts are true and PS2 is faster and can support more polygons then why is it that every magazine, website, etc (the credible ones say that the GC has so much power to spare and that the PS2 has a dated look since it can't show as much detail), plus games like tony hawk 3 and many others have frame rate drops from the PS2 not being able to keep a full 60 frames per sec but the GC, which is an exact port, has none. While i'm a Nintendo fanboy, i'm still speaking realisticly, any credible source will tell you that the gamecube hasn't even been fully tapped for it's power while PS2 is limited to waht it is now. Cost, it costs much less to make them, 6 GC disks can be made for the same price of one PS2 DVD disk, that's 9 gigs to 4.5. Next, I think that someone was saying in here that PS2 is more powerful than GC. Ha, and Ha again. If you see somewhere that the # of polygons that the PS2 and Xbox can display is outragiously highter than the GC's is because PS2 and Xbox only released the raw polygons the systems can display, while nintendo released real world polygons, which is the max polygons display with full lighting, textures, etc. While the PS2 is no where near the capability of the Xbox and GC, the reason it is so popular is because it has around 1 1/2 years as being exclusivly the only next gen system on the market, because of this there is a slim to no chance of the new systems to catch up. As of right now, the GC is killing the Xbox in sales worldwide. In japan GC is #3 in sales(behind PS2, and GBA) Xbox is in a distant 4th. In Europe, xbox sold 3000 units in 3 weeks while GC sold 400k in one week. Australia hasn't launch GC yet but nearly every store is unable to meet the needs of the preorder demands on the system. Once again Xbox has been lost in the shadow of the GC. Here in America Xbox had a very good launch but that died after all the hype on the 2 new systems settled down. The reason the xbox is doing so poorly is the weak software lineup, and system & controller size. The problem with the games is that there are few really good ones, plus any of the games on the xbox that people want, they can get a better one and more popular franchise on the PS2. If Sony is going to spend 900 million dollars to develop the PS3 like they say and Nintendo's total assets are only 850 million how could nintendo possibly make a system to compete with that. This looks like what it is -Nintendo droping out of the next race and going 3rd party.

Me and my buddy are having the constant arguement all the time. What is better to own; GC or XBox. The reason I didn't put PS2 in is because I personally think the PS2 sux0rs. Think of all the time that Nintendo owned in history. The NES, The N64, it could happen with the GC as well. But my buddy has already bought an XBox, because he was so confident with the outcome of Halo, that he believes all XBox games will be this good. I'm not saying he's wrong, but I really like the GC. SSB Melee rules ass! I've only played it in a store, but of what I've seen, the gameplay owns. I guess it's really just seeing where the gamers' priorities lie, but it seems that what has been said is right. People today are becoming more and more engrossed in graphics over gameplay, which is a sad state of affairs if the gaming world ends up like this. I'm still torn between XBox and GC at the moment, I guess now I gotta decide where my priorities lie.

Although I agree that Nintendo's Gamecube has the worst potential in video game graphics, sound, storage, etc., I would also say that Nintendo has, time and time again, surprised the gaming industry with award winning games, despite the medium they created the game on. Look at the old Nintendo vs. the Sega Master System. Although Sega's system had more potential in terms of system power, Nintendo came out first hands down because of the games. Then, when Sega tried to combat Nintendo's Game Boy with the Game Gear and Atari with its Lynx, Nintendo again left them in the dust. Up to now, Nintendo has proven that they can produce "gamer's" games regardless of system power or medium on which the game is written. I think this Christmas will have Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo showing their gaming fangs. I for one believe that Nintendo will surprise everyone.
Its is not the hardware of the consol that makes a game great becuse i have GC and i regreat buying it becuse it has very few good games. What makes a consol great is its games. Games are not good becuse of the graphics they are good if they make you feel like that person. I also agree with sloose, and that's one of the things Nintendo has gotten right... mulit-play. Years ago my favaorite party game was Goldeneye on N64. I hope games like that keep coming. It seems to be the kind Nintendo's trying to churn out now. Obscurus- Many people think the smaller disc weakens Nintendo, but they can sell mulitiple discs per game cheaply (A DVD really only costs so many cents). I think Nintendo has already chosen between the power/game thing. And it turned out to games (no surprise). I trust Nintendo can make the winner top-of-the-line games like they have been since 1985, but they're gonna need other companies to do the same for the GC in order to keep the lead they have going on the Xbox.

That is the true essence of console gaming. Now for larger scale shit that is why we shell out dough for a $2 to 4 K bad-ass machine to kick ass globally.Now to stick with the nintendo issue, it seems that when they released the 64 (selling out on the promised DD) they already had an unconventional view on console gaming, refusing to switch to other media (stuck with cart.) and now with the GC and those smaller capacity disks (1 point something gig.) they had other intentions. It seems that it bit them in the ass, these days consumers want an all-in-one power beast (as is their right), but to grant people that you have to take a hit financially and nin. can't do that. They thought simplicity was key, but not so today. Nintendo is going to have to decide whether to focus on games or push a more powerful GC to compete in the next leg of the console races, it will surely decide whether Nintendo prospers.
To me, gamecube and xbox are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Nintendo is trying to make high quality games while Microsoft is trying to meld pc gaming and console gaming into one ball. Xbox is putting so much effort into making a console online and nobody's stopped to tell them that it just might not work out the way they hope. For me, multiplayer on a console in its best and purest form will be 4(or more) friends sitting around, eating pizza, drinking beer, and playing a game or two.

Get a life,idiot.The kiddy image is almost only a shell.The real gamers find that through somewhat kiddy-looking games,there is depth that no kid could reach...just think Zelda....unless you're just dumb and continue saying sh*t like "X-box rul3z" and "Gaycube sux0r".Get a life and before you say anything,please TRY the games. I've had more fun with Smash Bros. Melee than i'll ever have with Munch's Odysee , Amped or Project Gotham Racing.
My opinion : Xbox only has : Racing games, Sports games, Fighting Games, First person shooters.
Except for the last one,these are all the types of games i hate.I prefer RPGs and Strategy games.And no,Azurik is NOT an RPG.

all i gotta say...call 311 and ask for a wahhhh bulance nintendo is saying that the entire game industry will decline...hm..HELLO? sorry you f**ked up and came out with a cheap system and are limited with your own hardware, sorry if xbox POTENTIALLY has more innovation possibilites, sorry if a STRONG competitor forces you to sell games cheaper to your customers{which i dont see so bad for us, since you been gouging us with high prices that end up at $10.00 a game} Nintendo is trying to scare people into buying its games, i sadly say, thats a pitiful way to go...If you just wanna make games{IE like SEGA} then do so, dont cry about it and say all the industry will die..cuz it wont, pc alone would carry, and xbox and ps3 will surely use REAL technology and make REAL games, for Kids, Adults and all inbetween, not just kid games ~Souless Dragon
