sloose my dear friend, I was reading your posts down a ways and saw that you said somewhere down there you talking about ps3 having planning in building a console, while xbox and xbox2 have been thrown together. xbox was in planning phase during the initial release of dreamcast, and xbox2 was in plan 6months later as a concept, this system was not "thrown together"

I did rent Morrowind, and my experience was a lot like yours. At first it was cool, then I got bored looking for some guy so I robbed houses. Tried to kill a ladie that was buggen me about it and she punched me to a pulp while my dagger was swingin away. I dont like Morrowind... i got a burnt version and at first seems heaps mad.... the part where u get off the ship, choose race, star sign. Then i got bored. I attacked some guy.... 4 guards came and hacked me 2 death. I found another guy by himself, pulled out the dagger and hacked him... and u know what..... 1 in 10 hit and the dagger is piss weak (i thought i could slit his throat Hitman Style). He punched me to death!!!! I also fell asleep during the battle (both me and my chracter...since it was borring). Anyhow i threw Morrowind on the shelf after that 2 collect dust.... reall wasnt as good as i hoped. Want a good RPG??? Get Zelda but it is wise 2 rent Morrowind first. I prefer mindlessly violent games that u can get into straight away (max payne any1????)
Anyhow u had cash 2 buy X Box..... well u shouldve got GC.... gr8 line up comin soon.... that are not PC ports. A majority of X Box games can be found on the PS2 so thats y if u wanted a change, get X Box.!.

And the visuals are saweet. The PC version has a construction set for development. But besides that, the X-BOX version is sweet. The best RPG the console has. I think it is the best RPG out right now. Right up there with Neverwinter Nights, and Duneon Seige. Buy it. It kicks A**!

I have said this one before, Morrorwind is VERY,VERY different from THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES. The Final fantasy series of games are excellent if you like that form of turn based attacking. I call that "old school" Now i know some of you guys on this forum will chew my a** out for that comment(as you did before..lol) But that's maybe why you did not like final fantasy....The games you hated are great games, however not to your tastes. Morrowind is a real time rpg with a non-linear story. And character development is INCREDIBLE. Millions of possibilities to create different type of charecters and races. And the world enviroment is HUGE and not directed.

Yes. And Today I have news. Lately, I've been asking myself what real reason there is to hate the xbox? Why hate it when I haven't tried it? So after I swallowed my pride, I went and bought an xbox today. It's mosterous, the controller is big, but it's good. So far I've only played max payne on it so I haven't gotten a real feal for what it can do. Ports don't do a system justice. I am gonna have to try that morrowind everyone's talkin about along with halo. Now I wish I could understand why me, or anybody else that would hate xbox without trying it. Even if M$ bails tommorow, I have enough games in mind to play that justify buying the system. As for me and my PS2, we still have a fun future ahead. And if I had the time for more games, I'd buy GC. They're all better in some ways, but they're all good.

Yeah whats wrong with Voice of Reason. I brought up GBA cause its Nintendo and its been a long time since any platform other than Sony broke in2 no.1 in japan. I dont like the GBA too much but i do wanna play the new Zelda since its SNES port..... possibley one of the best Zeldas with OOT. ANyhow Voice of Reason i h8 X box as well but why call evwery1 names. I used 2 b like u.... and i got rebutted most of the time cause i was just sayyin shit.... just like that. I wouldn't be surprised if ibm/sony have a chip that can possibly run at the equivalent of 100ghz. PC's are using the same hardware as they were 15 years ago, it was only a matter of time before a more efficient architecture was discovered that allows for faster speeds. I read about a hard drive replacement that IBM are developing that will allow you to have 10GB of storage in your mobile phone. On to the games. Does anyone know of any "classic" platform games for any of the consoles? I mean, something like the original Mario series or Donkey Kong Country on NES\SNES. They had shit graphics but they were sooooo FUN!!!! Wherever I look I see nothing but 3rd person adventure games, which are fun, but I am so f**king sick of them!!! Bring back some classic remakes I say!
Why must everyone pick on ps2 when it comes to games. The system already has plenty of good, if not great, games with better ones coming out every day. Where you see a large library of crap, I see variety which will appease to a wide array of gamers. Even if a game isn't good in your opinion, it will always find an audience elsewhere. As for Nintendo being bullet proof to shoddy games is far from the truth. I've already seen plenty of gamecube games which missed the "keeper" mark by a long haul.
And I'm not surprised gameboy is doing so well since it is probably one of the most recognized and popular gaming platforms ever.

Sony has been on top for a long time now. It might not pump out the best looking games or best games period, however the user base is large, so developers will create games for it first.....The Game-Cube will always put out quality titles. It wont have as many games as Sony or even the X-BOX, however the games should be mostly "keepers" X-BOX will put out more quality games then the PS2, alot will be PC ports but i would perfer PC ports to sh** games anyday of the week. Because PS2 has such a larger user base then the two other consoles, you wil get alot of fly by night aS**** companies just pumping out games to make a quick buck. I hate those mother***** Those companies should be nuked......

Thanks to n64, Nintendo lost it's place on top. The only other real contender at the time was sony, and with the user base that PS built "playstation" seems to be the first name people think about when they want a new console. Not all people, but people that don't read gaming forums and console news all the time. Many people I know have not even heard of xbox or GC. Playstation 2 had it's 1.5 year head start to be the name that most people know and trust. GC and xbox are both good consoles too(and better graphics), but where I'm from most people still think PS2 is the newest best thing, and a large library of games is readily available at the local gaming store.

I believe that there is nothing wrong with the actual product that is the XBOX and their games. the problem lies in that it came out 2 years after the PS2 and MS stepped in 8 years after Sony. This proves to be a big problem. many ppl know PS, hardly anyone knows XBOX. Ppl have already bought PS2s, less ppl will buy XBOX because their mommy's won't invest in another console. Some of this is even proving to be true with the GC. Sure its beating the XBOX but only by a small amount when considering how long they've been in the industry, isn't Sony proving to be winning the hearts of the general public more?
Well some rumors are often based on a grain of truth. I do believe that sony is exaggerating somewhat when they claim that ps3 will be 1000x faster but who really knows. The technology certainly sounds impressive to me so we'll just have to wait until 2005-6. At least sony has a plan for developing consoles unlike the thrown together xbox and probably xbox 2.

Hmmmm...... 1) To Hitman, the 64 never beat the PS in sales when it was first released cause it was released 6-12 months after it. Sony established a userbase because the Saturn was a piece of junk. M$ is sinking now but u cant speculate that theyll improve because Sony did 2) Blow Moores Law. I dont do physics or anything but how can a rule define how fast processor technology will develop. Try this for Moores Law: Every single person stops researchin/Cr8ing processors for a year! Whats Moores Law goin 2 do? Make the suposed new processor fall out of the sky???? PS3 can muster that 1000X claim depending on circumstances (like Aliens give them the tech to do it or a nuclear war could wipe out all procesessors). i'm sure all companies will have the top hardware when they release their next generation of consoles. XBOX 2 and Nintendo GameDoubleCubed (u never know!) will probably have the more advanced tech though since they will be released later. have u actually heard of PS3's plans? Distributed Computing. sounds awsome but that would mean the end of pirate games and some other small things. not to worry though since their just small problems. Don't forget also that MS is still the richest company in the world (it is right, RIGHT?) and unless someone beats their OS into the mainstream and schools stop using MS Office as default, i think they will have enough money to blow on the XBOX.

But although it is still what they say in the US and Asia, PAL version XBOXs are margionally off what they promised. Now before i go on, could u please list some of the places where u get ur info? cause some of the stuff u said was just unheard of. but i'm willing to believe u since they seem very likely. but don't expect Sony to deliver word for word because it all sounds very much like DRDEATH said, hype. Pure hype to trick little kids. Hype or not, it sounds good though. But don't expect MS and Nintendo to just lie still while Sony rapes them. I'm sure they have already got their scientists back to work. And also, whats wrong with a PC archetecture? u saw how easily it is for developers to design games for it. i mean it would be great if MS is designing their own CPU and shit (which it seems they are) but what good is it if it is as hard as the PS2 to make games for?
DRDEATH is right, the newest and fasted CPUs never go into the consoles. I remember when the N64 was released it has I think a 93mhz processors during a time when computers had around 200mhz. The trend still follows today.
But consoles don't need such fast processors. PCs are using their power on a lot of extra things that consoles don't have to worry about. The consoles have a bare-bones OS and are fully committed to games... which I like. Like other people, I don't need my console to play DVDs or wash dishes or anything.
Well I guess IBM, Toshiba, and Sony know they have a good thing on their hands since they are investing so many resources into the project. You'll see their new processor in everything from dvd players to cell phones at the earliest of 2005.

Then you must realize that Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo will not put in it's future console the latest and greatest CPU AND GPU technology. Why? Because it would cost a bloody king's ransom to manufacture. The console company is in it to make the maximum amount of profit. And in doing so they cannot create a super console that would cost consumers a arm and a leg to buy. Look at the X-BOX when it first was released. It had so called cutting edge technology( for a console) and in that it will cost Microsoft profits until well into the life of the X-BOX. A console should just play games and not worry if it will play DVD'S, flat screen displays, yada yada yada....As for Sony running everything off the new processor...i doubt it. You will begin to see CPU'S and multiple GPU'S working together for increased performance. As games become more complex and life like. Computations will increase and you can't rely on your CPU to do all the work alone......
IBM is set to revolutionize the development of processors using their patented system-on-chip design which will form the basis of the supposed "cell" processor on the ps3. If the speed of computer processors do continue to follow Moore's Law then the processer in the ps3 will far eclipse them.

Wow a lcd screen, dvd changer, linux os? I will settle for a system that just plays games on my tv. I don't want it to cost too much. I'll guess that ps3 will have a hardrive so it would be nice if they released it with a tivo like option. I would also like to see wireless controllers become standard by the time ps3 hits. Reportedly, sony is developing a new dvd technology called dvd-blue(?) which fits 30 gigs on a single disc, it might be interesting if the incorporate that into the ps3. I would also like to see the case for ps3 designed by the same guys who do the designs for apple computers, I think that would be excellent. I only mentioned the cpu speed because sony was talking about Moore's Law which relates to processor speed. If the rumors are true, then sony could do away with the gpu and have everything run off the new processor.

300mhz X 200 is 60 ghz, but I doubt that'll be the clock speed. 200x faster would be achieved by more ram, more powerfull video, multi cpu's, and many other factors. However they do it, I think they can reach 200x more total power. My idea of the perfect PS3 would also have LCD screen, DVD changer, linux OS, 4 controller ports(duh), and would be silver in color like Sony' high end electronics.

Ain't nothing wrong with aiming for the sky, (1000x faster) but the latest news on megagames that confirms PS3 on the way said it's expected to be about 200x faster. That's fast enough for me. As for the getaway, I hadn't heard talk about it being linear. Certain linear games can be good, but the wide open playing field of GTA3 was my favorite thing about it.
What I'm really waiting for is the japanese rpg's; Xenosaga, Star Ocean 3, .hack vol.1, Grandia Xtreme, Dark Cloud 2, Wild Arms 3, Kingdom Hearts, Tales of Destiny 2.
And No Name, the Getaway looks mighty fine to me. I just hope all the rumors are wrong about it being linear because I am really expecting a very open-ended game. But I have an odd feeling that its not going to be as good as I hope.. Lets hope I'm wrong.
I must disagree with you God's Hitman with your comparison between psx and xbox. The original psx has more in common with the ps2 than the xbox in my opinion. The psx released 1 week after the saturn at the end of 1994 and impressed gamers with its sleek design and slightly more powerful processor, in comparison to the bulky looking saturn. Psx reigned supreme against its only competition at the time selling through 97% of its stock in japan while sega still had saturns collecting dust. When psx debuted at E3 in 1995 they were the best in show compared to the saturn and nintendo's virtual boy showing. When released in North America in september, retailing in at $299 it was $100 less than the saturn and quickly sold through. Psx was always popular right from the beginning. The n64 was never that big and at times even the saturn was beating it out (in japan). Psx *always* had the biggest userbase which gave them some of the best games of the time.
Fast forward to present day. Xbox's competition is against not one but two console veterans which both have a larger fanbase than anything the xbox can muster. Its market performance is not at all comparable to the original psx. Now ps2 is performing even better than the original psx. It owns more than 60% of the market and is in the lead. Three consoles have never been able to coexist at the same time. With xbox in last place, its just not Microsofts day.
In a fight between the ps3 and xbox 2, ps3 would win hands down. Sony has already talked to developers and asked them approximately how much processing power it would take to make real life video game images (I think they said something like 400x the power of a ps2). Now sony is already stating that ps3 will be 1000x more powerfull than ps2 - they might be overexaggerating but its not entirely impossible). IBM already has a processor clocked in at 100ghz a few months ago so they're not that far off. Its all a question of if they can scale it down to a reasonable console size. "Moore's Law is too slow for us" was the exact words of sony's representative. Now if xbox2 relies on a modified pc architecture as well, then according to Moore's Law, lets be frank, it would just stink. Now I usually say that graphics don't matter, but this would be a big leap no matter how you look at it.

I believe that when the PS3 comes out, it will most definitely be kick arse with new tech and all. But i am still with the XBOX 2. Better tech, my favorite games etc. And about the sales thing, how many times do i have to say this to u PS2 morons, back when PS came out, how good did they do? remember? Sony was once a newcomer in the business as well. They did shitter than the 64, but later on, skeptical d**k f**ks like a few here got less skeptical and joined in the PS crusade. it takes time to establish a new product. People needs to know it first, some people don't even know what it is. and once they know it, they need to trust it. Realise that it can last them for another 5 years. all this takes time. people trust Nintendo because they've been in the business for God knows how long (i'll get an exact date the next time we talk business) and people trust Sony because they generally make good electronics anyway not to mention their decade of console expertise. oh and p00_p00, this months hyper has got the best E3 coverage i have read so far, with comprehensive previews and a general description of the online plans. Please also notice that in their mag XBOX has 28 exclusives, Nintendo has 12 and PS2 has 20. the PC has 19. and all the XBOX games look pretty tasty to me, apart from two kiddy games (not Blinx). but all in all, all the games featured looks kick arse for every system.

Anyways, I'm looking most foward to rachet and clank, sly cooper, and the getaway. The getaway has beautiful graphics and a gameplay mixture of GTA3 and Max Payne. And if you have a ps2, get the s-video cable(if your tv has it). It makes it look higher res and much sharper picture.

PC does have a lot of bad games but those who understand the market know that it often takes a miracle to get a game sold in a store. Hundreds of games are denied shelf space at your local computer store. Suffice it to say that you're not seeing the "real crap" the PC has to offer.
The cheap development cost of Game Boy games leads to some real crap games for the GBA, like "Shrek's Fairy Tale Freakdown" and such. It's the first console they turn to for a cheap merchandizing ploy. But with GBA's huge library (the biggest of all consoles) you can get the really good ones and not even care about the bad.
If PS2 has plenty of bad games, so be it. But its amount of good games beats the other consoles. Nobody's forcing the consumer to buy crap. He can usually tell what the good games are.
People shouldn't be aguing about who has more crap, they should be arguing about who has more good games and which console's good games beat the other console's good games.

I won't lie and say that there was no room for improvment on the PS2 version of Max Payne. Mainly the fps, but I think they could have ported it better than that. I played the PS2 version first and finished it 3 times before I played the pc version and when I did I still liked the PS2 version better. Not because of grafix but the control system. A mouse is quicker, but I could keep aim on a guy better with joysticks. Anyways, in the end I was more bothered that the game would always force you to watch cut-scenes than the inferior grafix.

Your friend may not be sitting right beside you but i have friends over the net just as same. Online gaming is the top reason on my list that i am a hardcore PC person. Sitting in front of a Tv with some of my buds is very fun..(us pc gamers have something similiar called a lan party duh).....but it can never compare to the hundreds of extremely good players that are always there to play with you at any time that you have the urge to play over the net. Anyways.....if i have a shit console game then inviting some friends over to play it with me makes it funner.(note: focus on the actual reason you like and enjoy a game) The intensity of online games such as half-life takes a long time to die out when there are always ppl out there making new mods for it......and the best thing about it is that the mods are free. Anyways.....when it comes the time that consolers and PC gamers start playing games over the net on the same battlefields.....then we will be able to see if a mouse can offer more precision and speed as a joystick on a hand held controller.
Anyways.......why are ppl saying that PCs arent as immersive than consoles........reminds me..Well ya know what pisses me off more than ever........is when im playing mortal kombat or something else and someone walks out in front of me....and i get my arse kicked......playing games on a tv is really distracting if you think about it. pOO i am not a pc fanboy, it's just my format of choice. And i will defend it like the rest of you will defend your platform of choice. My belief is that all systems serve a purpose. Except the PS2....(-: no, even the PS2. I only bag old school type games when people dwell on it. FF series was good...Hey i played Secret of Mana back in the day. I myself prefer to play games that are new and different. Like i said before, Shemmune kicked a** big time. I love innovative games. What would be good to see is FF series developed in a totally 3d realm with real time combat, with larger worlds to explore. less linear. Something different....And pOO, play some more of Dungeon Siege. Better yet, play some Never Winter Nights. Hey, and i have emotion, but i am a bastard too when a good debate comes along....And No Name, play a game like Black and White, or Jedi Knight Outcast online with your buddies and just duke it out with light sabres and tell me if that's boring. Or play Commanche online and dog fight with your buddies, especially if you have a good flight stick control setup. Play Never Winter Nights online....it kicks a**. The game play is top notch and the visuals are there too. And i do agree on one thing...we are spoiled when it comes to visuals. Pc gamers only expect the best. And want nothing less. And it's in my nature to post 50 line responses. And you know what? Textures and graphics do and will set itself apart from other games. In some cases it makes gameplay better. IE. Maxpayne for the pc and Maxpayne for the PS2. PS2 owners won't notice this unless they have played the other two versions. Then you see the difference. PS2 does have a lot of crap games but how is that sony's fault? Tons of PS2 are good and some are great and when a system has a game library as large as the PS2 there is bound to be a lot of crap too. That's why the PC has way more crap than all consoles combined; cause it has the biggest library. As for pc gaming I used to be pc all the way but I got sick of pc style games. PC rpg's might be good but I don't like rpg's at all. PS2 comes out with more good games than I have time to play and XBOX may have more "good" games come out in the future but the games it has right now seem way to "PC style" to me (maybe cause they're mostly pc ports). The only xbox game I like to play that I can't on PS2 or pc is rallisport. Xbox may not be all bad for someone who want's pc games without the pc but for me PS2 has more fun (my kind of fun) games than any other platform now and a way's into the future.
And DR DEATH; your pc power spec talk is sounding like a broken record already. The games you play must be real boring if all you're thinkin about is specs and lighting and texture during gameplay. For me but a game with bad graphics CAN (note can) be more fun than a game with top notch grafix. Sloose is right that PC gamers are spoiled.

Unreal will surpass in all aspects on the pc then the x-box version. The creators for it even say so..That is in part due to the new video cards and direct x9 that will support those games. Unreal will sell millons like the first one. Halo will also look and play better on the pc. All fps do.And with the new technology, it will push the gap further until the next gen consoles come out....I play all my games online right now anyways. And the games you mentioned are of the pc variety...FPS...RPGS...And i play all my sport tiles online. Even Tony Hawk Pro Skater. Team SAS will be a wanna be Team Fortress 2 or Ghost Recon or Sum of All fears type game. And all those type games as you know succeed on the pc. They started there first! ie. FPS online, Racing sims and flight sims online, and i play Madden2002 and FIFA and NHL2002 online.....Old school is okay as long as you don't dwell on it and stay in that realm forever....
Everyone brings up the fact that the only have hundreds of crap games. Mind you they are getting much better and some are already excellent in my opinion.

All i can say is this. The X-BOX is almost like a mini pc. It has the greastest potential, however Bill and co. continue to put pc ports on it. And they are usally inferior. The human eye can only see up to 82 frames per second. it wont matter how much FPS u PC people can handle, because as long as its over 82 FPS, then its useless. Also, 60 frames, is the max when everything the console can handle is enables. it can go a lot faster without EVERYTHING enables you know? and i thought u called yourself a PC user. And also, my pal in the US told me that playing Halo over the net is as smooth as silk (well not the exact words...), the FPS runs just like in one-player and all the textures are just like the normal thing. i don't know what ur crapping about. Plus, Nintendo only seems like they have a lot of exclusives because of the endless Mario and co games. without them, Nintendo is nothing and being a Nintendo semi-fan myself, i know this for a semi-fact. they still have plenty of kick arse games, but just remember not to think of the 64 or snes games when thinking of the GC.

Oh please...floor pads for sports games suck. They always get crap reviews and the response time is soooooo bad that it's not worth sh*** on. Like i said before, you can play any game on your t.v. with a game pad. I use a game pad for GTA3, Virtua Tennis, Madden 2002, NHL2002, Tony Hawk pro skater...ANY console port i can use my 10 button analog game pad. And the worlds are bigger. That's also in part do to larger video memory to access large enviroments and textures on the fly. And you still have not told me of one X-BOX game that get's you immersed in the character itself???? Tell me one game. Just one. FF series, like i said before is old school, turn based, been there done that from the snes days....And Morrowind is not of quality???? The character development in that game is sooooo detailed it's short of amazing. Play it. Stop talking crap and play it for the X-BOX. Never Winter Nights and the rest....play those. At least i have played the games that you mentioned. And when the worlds are larger, the game does not become a "follow the script" type rpg's that rule on all consoles. With Morrorwind and the rest, you can follow your own path. Not some pre-determined quest. Please tell me that all the FF games do not follow that type of "old school" game play. And all the rest of those types of games.....Play Ultima online,Everquest. You can take YOUR created character with you to different campagains...just like how a REAL rpg should be. You can't do that with the so-called immersed games of FF and the likes. These games are too linear. Character development is of the old school simple type. Kill monsters....get experience...go up a level...find stufff.....OLD SCHOOL...The rpgs that are on the pc use that and other techniques in upgrading and character development. Did i not specifically admit that i compare specs when comparing consoles with consoles? is my english so bad that i didn't make that clear enough for the mentally disables like you? the PC does have many different types of controllers, but guess what? so do we. why the XBOX even has a little soccer mat, its sensored like in the arcades so you can virtually play FIFA. anyway, the PC users generally don't use game pads anyway, and most of the best out there are made by MS. plus, it just don't feel right sitting in front of your monitor using a pad, its insane. this is bullshit, the worlds may (notice may) be bigger in PC RPGs but i asked if u felt like u were the character. i prefer quality over quantity. its good to have larger worlds for longer gameplay etc, but who cares if can't be immersed in to the character itself. My last point: Most of the games being released for the X-BOX are of the pc type...I mean that in the way they play and look. The Game Cube at least they strive to be different in that areana. I wil also find it interesting when X-BOX goes online. Because most of those games will be of the pc variety. FPS, RTS, RPG'S. And it will be also interesting to see what games developers bring out for the X-BOX to play online...Because in order for games to run at optimal frames per second over a network, including broad band, like the targeted 60 frames a second for consoles...developers will have to be careful on how much detail and textures and lighting effects they put into the game. Too much eye candy will slow down a multi player game over narrow or broad band. And since consoles are not scalable for textures and visuals, programmers will more than likely make the game with less textures in order for it to run at respectable levels. Will DOOM3 or Unreal 2 Or Quake4 run at 1600x1200 or better with all the eye candy on over the X-BOX network at 60 frames or better??? I doubt it. This is one of the reasons why Sony and Nintendo are not jumping into the fray yet inregards to online play. Nothing sucks more then a game running at 20 frames a second. I like the idea that i can run my multi- player games at 90-150 frames a second on a pc.....

Also God's Hitman, you should not talk down too much of broad band play, for it is X-BOX'S so called ace in the hole over the rest of the consoles...All rpg's or most in the past for the console are of the turn base variety. At least Zelda for the 64 went the different route. FF series was good back in the day. It's old school now. If you like that sort of turn based, follow a story line, very little character development like Morrowind and the rest type game, then more power to you.The pc is the testing ground for cutting edge games. Always has been. And God's Hitman, play Vampire Masquaraide, you control up to four characters at a time...kicks the sh** out of Blood Omen 2......And you claim that rpgs are too difficult to play??? Sloose. Hmmmm... Don’t even know if I should bother replying... but anyways, here I go... 1. Linux has just as many security holes as WinXP, probably more. Its just that they don't get found because no-one would be bothered trying to hack a Linux box. 2. Linux probably has less errors, but it also has a fraction of the backwards compatibility and features of windows xp. 3. Beta's were out for windows XP for a couple of years before the final release. 4. Yes WinXP is built on Win2K, and Win2K was built on WinNT. If people followed "best practices" for software development, then most programs would be totally interoperable between the three. Unfortunately most people don't. Most of the time it isn’t financially feasible to! 5. If MS, or any software company for that matter, waited until there were guaranteed "no errors" in their code then nothing would EVER be released, and I’m not exaggerating here I promise. The fact is that WinXP is THE BEST possible operating system available with the functionality that it has. Complaining that it crashes occasionally is like complaining your car doesn't do 1000 miles to the gallon.
God's Hitman, you make it sound like every PC user is confined solely to a keyboard and mouse... Granted, in everything but FPS, I would rather use a console controller. But you can get handheld controllers for PC really cheap.
I think it's the experience you get shortchanged on, though. Somebody mentioned consoles being more immersive than PCs and I think that's true (though I've been getting good immersion from some PC games like Castle Wolfenstein and Oni).
Maybe it's the distraction of working your way from Windows to the game, whereas with consoles you go straight to the game.
Maybe because you're sitting upright at a desk with a PC, but with a console you're in a comfy couch.
I actually think the last really good Final Fantasy was FF6. I've played them since the first one, and I loved Six, but after that I got sick of running around untill some random invisible enemy finds you... And the four options FIGHT, MAGIC, ITEM, RUN. And does every Final Fantasy hero have to be some rough-around-the-edges spiky-haired rebel with a heart of gold? Bring me back to Square's good old SNES days (FF4, FF6, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger). Square needs to change its formula... its RPGs are getting old.

u know, when i first saw an RPG on the PC (can't remember the name now) i thought it was an RTS. i shittier version since u can only command one person or party instead of an entire army. now that i come to think of it, PC RPGs are just that. no more no less. you command ur character, and strategically, it may prove to be quite difficult, and give ur indew finger quite a work out but poor PC gamers never got to be that character. tell, were u ever that Ranger, or Barbarian or Wizard? no? Welcome to a new world, where you are in the world, where the character is you, where when it ends, you wake up from a dream. this is the kind of immersion the FF series provided. this is what console RPGs are about. to tell u the truth, PC RPGs are more pick up and play. u have to learn all the basics like control and the system ofcourse but doesn't that apply for everything? u don't need to know the story or what happened you pick up ur beloved mouse, and start hacking. Console RPGs not only needed all that, but u also need to start from the beginning, walk through the story, to emerge successful. did i just say all that? anyway, to sum up my PC VS. Console arguement, i believe that us console people can really be considered as gamers. PC people are more like technicians. they test the game, see if the Graphics and all that are good, and if it meets their technical criteria, they've scored. console gamers are always on the look out for fun, immersive games. graphics excellence is an added bonus. in a PC debate, graphics is always the key point. But console ppl tend to forget it. maybe its because we are so immersed in the games? i don't know. at least this is what i believe (take a note DRDEATH). did i just say all that ?

Game on God's Hitman..... RPGs rock on console.... i rekon their deeper than PC ones cause theirs more quests and shit. Look at Diablo 1 and 2.... just hackin and slashin etc.... no real exploration, character interaction etc. I dont know much bout Ultima or Everquest and i couldnt give a damn. and also, when i refer to soecs, i am always saying how it doesn't matter, thats when i am comparing games with PC. i don't like many (notice many not all) PC games and i do prefer those games on the consoles more, even though the PC have better everything else. when i compare with consoles, there is no other way to compare apart from the controller. come on, each controller has their own good points right? (take a lesson DRDEATH). i only talk about specs when comparing consoles with consoles. consoles with PC, its another story, graphics has little value here. i can mention a few games with a mega load of better features and graphics on the PC, but just doesn't cut it. on the PS2, there was a game called the Bouncer. look it up, and ur life will change in temrs of what u believe in.
Im just saying, FF7 was the last good FF of the series. I've played all of them. FF8 had no depth, story, interesting characters, etc, etc. The story of ff8 was boring and confusing at times. I remember one instance in the game where your party is launched into outer space with no explaination at all. Once in space squall asks "what are we doing here?" - what the hell, you tell me you stupid game! If thats not confusing then I don't know what is. As for the later ff's steer clear - thats all I got to say on that matter.
And if you read my comment carefully I didn't say anything about the game Steel Battalion itself. I just said the controller was silly. Who's going to buy that thing, spending probably 3-4 times the amount of a regular controller for a single game? The game itself looks excellent in my opinion and I would like to play it but them's the boots for me.
p.s run windows update and you'll probably get a dozen updates.

You brought up a good comparison drdeath between pc rpg's and console rpg's. It stems back all the way to they 80's where games like final fantasy formed the backbone of console rpg's while games like ultima and d&d eventually evolved to the pc rpg genre we have today. I'll have to stick with console rpg's though cause they'll always be my first love.
Big D, I would have to immensely disagree with you on your views of multiplayer. I would rather be playing against one of my friends instead of playing against 50 people I don't care about or would never meet. I don't think online gaming is bad though, its just better to play against someone in the same room that you know personally.
AhoyMaties, I mentioned windows 2000 because wasn't xp built straight from it? I got countless critical errors from running slightly older programs designed for win2000 on xp. And having to release patches is almost as if MS released a beta of the product to the consumer and we have to test it while they continually make it better. Theres no patches for linux because there aren't as many holes in it.

DRDEATH. If you run your PC through a t.v you are in a minority. I'd guess that < 1% of PC users do this. Why? Its not hard, hell I'd even say it was easy. Most new video cards that are comming out now support t.v out (just the card costs more than a console, but that's a whole other argument) and its simple to hook up. I think its because having your pc sitting in the middle of the loungeroom is a big fuking inconvinience. Heck, its not only the PC, you need a desk sitting in the middle of your loungeroom floor as well for keyboard/mouse.

The only software that is released without errors are those which runs nuclear power plants & oil rigs etc etc. The fact that you have to install new patches for windows means that MS are actually keeping on top of errors as they appear, how many service & security patches do you see for linux?? The fact that a program runs on windows 2000 and not XP means that the developers of that product should have tested it more before it was released for windows XP, it has nothing at all to do with windows. One last thing, the support MS give to their products is unbelievable, only now am i starting to see support for windows 95 drop off. How many products to you get 7 years of free upgrades and support for??

Let me say something about the comparison of Console controls to PC controls.......no comparison. No gaming controller can compare to the precision of an optical mouse and the 100keys available on a keyboard. A keyboard can be used very effieciently compared to a gaming control if you work at it. And on the other hand if you dont like using a keyboard/mouse then you can always get a hand held gaming pad for 10 bucks. lol When it comes to multi player then the 4 ppl sitting in front of one tv doesnt do it for me anymore. Online gaming is the way to go......cant fit 50 ppl in front of a Tv.

As a matter a fact, these games set the standard for game play in their respected formats (for consoles alike)....DOOM, Warcraft, Command and Conquer, Myth, Quake, Unreal, Black and White, Deusx, Max Payne, Medal of Honour, GTA3, FIFA WORLD CUP, Ghost Recon, Pyprus Nascar Racing, Freedom Force, Serious Sam, THE SIMS, Age of Empires, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune 1&2, Morrorwind, Alice, Vampire Masquaraid, Undying, Hitman, No One Lives Forever, Commanche, (almost every flight sim) Duke Nukem, Counter Strike, Aliens vs. Predator, Almost every Golf Game, Tomb Raider, MDK, Operation Flashpoint...The list goes on. Game play starts and stops with the pc. It will always produce the cutting edge games that consoles later adapt. The only real cutting edge console i see right now is the Game Cube...Because of it's exclusive titles and not pc ports. And to add to this, 3rd person games play better with a mouse and keyboard or game pad and mouse together, depends on what you like. And that's something you can't do with a console..use multiple controllers for a game. Your stuck witht he one you got.

Stop whining God's Hitman. Anyone can play their pc games on their t.v. I play mine on my 36 inch flat sceen at resolutions of 1024x768. And why Console games sell poorly on the pc format is that most of these games are too limited and have very little replay value. Take fighting games for example. How long can you play those for? If you don't play with your buddies, it's sooooo sh** MGS may be a great game in terms of console owners, however pc owners have seen better. That game is full of too much FMV. F*** FMV. FF series, great for the console. I would and many other pc users would rather play a REAL rpg. None of this linear garbage that you can finish in no time at all. I personally don't like to be directed with a lease to finish a rpg. Console rpg's are wat too linear. And that is fact. At least X-BOX got Morrowind. A real rpg. Console rpg's are not in-depth like rpg's on the pc. It is made for a audience that likes games with a simple learning curve, and in doing so, the game becomes simplistic. Ultima Online, Everquest are true rpg's. Never Winter Nights, Might and Magic series. Consoles release platform type games to appeal to a consumer that can pick it up right away. I would like to see more sports games released for the pc. Because when written well for the pc, it is better then the console version. Ie. FIFA WORLD CUP.

Back to the original intent of this article I've already seen some developers already start to act out these predictions. One such company is Sega. At their press conference 3 day ago "Sega revealed their software strategy for the next year and commented on a number of topics. Due to be released this year are 42 games for PlayStation 2, 15 for Xbox, 20 for GameCube, and 12 for Game Boy Advance. No titles were mentioned for PC, but Sega said it was still an important platform for them."
FF8 had to be the worst FF of them all representing the beginning of Square's nosedive. But thats another story God's Hitman. And I have to drop the axe on that monstrosity of a controller for Steel Battalion. Why anyone would even purchase that is beyond me.
And BlahBlah, MS's os IS crap, and only attained popularity through advertisement (anyone remember the windows 95 rolling stones commercial). The fact that a program that runs perfectly fine on windows 2000 but causes blue screens of death on windows XP shows they should of put it through its paces a bit more. I'd better have my say. I've been under a few names now, those who read these forums probably know who I am... 1. God's Hitman. I think they put the XBX logo on these articles because its more controversial than any of the others. People love a good controversy; I think the size of these last few forums would prove my point. 2. Sloose & Others. You shouldn't diss any MS OS. It has basically made the PC industry what it is today. Without a standard platform for development the software & business industries would be a shadow of what they are today. What people generally don't realise as the biggest part of the MS OS is the backwards compatibility. The fact that I can still run apps on my PC that were written 10 years ago is mind boggling. 3rd party software and drivers generate most, if not all, blue screens. MS can't stop people writing shit software!! I can make a Linux box crash just as quick as a windows box, hell its even easier on Linux cause you don’t have awesome tools like visual studio!! Anyways, that’s a whole other argument, on with the console stuff. 3. Of course games look sweeter on PC, 640x480 can't compare with 1600x1200. However PCs a) Cost shitloads b) Are harder to use c) *Usually* only support 1 player on the PC at a time & d) Don't have the benifits of playing in your loungeroom, i.e. big tv, 5.1 sound, a lounge and in my case a heater :o) Different environment kiddies, it's all about the different environments. 4. DRDEATH (I think..) XBX supports FSAA. It needs to be enabled by the developer of the game however. 5. poo poo. You say that "XBX is basically a PC" and that a lot of XBX games will be out on PC, but you wont be able to play them with the comfort & benefits of a console (see no.3). I think i explained this before, and anyone with half a PC brain would have picked it up, i believe that PCs can do anything and everything. They can handle everything that the developer throws at it, and if a good game comes out on the console side, they can always get an emulator. But alas, why oh why has console games never sold well in the pC market? Take for example, MGS. Great Game, even better graphics than the PS1 version on the PC but was never sold as well as console games. FF8, better graphics, better everything (according to the stats) but i never got as involved on it as i was on the PS1, even though i played it through equally amount of times on both platforms. PC is no different to consoles. they specialise in one thing, fail immensely on the others. The only difference is that to the people that only looks at the stats and specs, they seem to be able to do everything. Consoles doesn't seem to be able to do everything, but in the core, they can do more than the PC. if ur someone who likes a wide range of types of games, get ur prefered console. if ur someone that is limited to FPS and RTS, get a PC. If ur someone that only looks at the specs then f**k OFF. or u can just buy them all.

As for ur choice of games, i must say that i like them too. i also like immersive games. Games that me me really feel like the character. Now in my life, only two games has done that for me. Halo and FF8 on the PSone. FF8 is my favorite game of all time. i actually felt like that that was my life. i was Squall and Rinoa was my girlfriend. needless to say, i was quite sad when it all ended. Halo made me feel like the guy, full stop. There was no actual emotion (although every time a team mate died or when Capt. Keyes died, i shed a tear) but i was involved. if u ask me, i prefer immersiveness over fun. i would like to own both but due to tight parents and a tight pocket, i have to stick with the XBOX. u still forget that although many games may come out on the PC too, would u rather play it infront of a monitor or TV? i'll leave that to u. Even if there will be no exclusives ever appearing on the XBOX, i will still know that those ported over games from other systems will be the best version to me. They will cain the other consoles in terms of specs and to me, i would rather play them on my console than a PC, but thats me. i never played Soul Calibur, but according to what i read, it is a shit good game. i'm sure that i will enjoy the better version on the XBOX.

i thought we called peace, i guess the battle is on once again. Heres MY analysis: 1) FPS-PC traditionaly, consoles reached a new level, so is now almost equal, but still prefer the mouse. 2) RPG-All controllers are fit because it just needs buttons pressed at different times. For games like Diablo, the GC buttons are actually harder since they're so awkwardly apart, but still, they're equally good. I don't like playing them on the PC because of lack of comfort. The keyboard simply doesn't have the user friendlyness required for this type of game. 3) Fighting games is definitely out for PC-anyone agrees with me. The GC controller is definitely crap since its too far apart. PS2 is good because of the neat and organised layout. The XBOX controller is MY prefered one since the buttons are close together enough to be pressed at once (apart from the white/black ones). 4) Flying-I agree with p00_p00. Although to me, if anything needs more than the buttons provided by a XBOX/PS2 controller then its too complicated for social life gaming (although Steel Battalion (Tekki) for the XBOX looks awesome with the special controller). 5) RTS-i know for a fact that the mouse is better. But when u think about it, the analogue sticks can be as smooth as the mouse, perhaps just not as fast. I may work just as well, u never know. but since no developer has yet to take advantage of it, then i guess we'll have to wait and see.

oh yeah i dont like it also cause lack of appealing games that it has. As i sed i want Halo (comin out on PC neway), DOA3 (just get Soul Caliber 2 which will blow it away.... and u know it Gods Hitman) and Project Ego (lots of PC alternatives to it.....) Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Eternal Darkness and SSBM are what im after. Fun and absorbing games.... most importantly made by Rare and nintendo.

Rail shooters... i prefer Controller, but X Wing V Tie Fighter, Alliance etc need ALOT of buttons to be used 5)RTS _> What do u think???

I have hardly ever heard a PC user say how good the game is because of the gameplay. They always talk about the graphics and all that. They fail to realise that games need more that graphics and specs (The Bouncer anyone?). Bottom line is, really think about why you like a certain game, look deeper than skin deep. this is what all gamers should look for.

PC people, do u ever not just worry about ur polys? Didn't i mention before that systems now already has the pedigree to produce photo-realistic graphics? I can't be bothered to explain now so go to the "Money to decide console war" forum and see why. also, people like playing on consoles because they think it feels better. now if u don't understand what that means then u have been missing out heaps. If u don't like games such as racing, platformer, sports and beat-em-ups then i guess you havn't been missing out since they may look good but have no way of competing with the atmosphere that a console can create. RTS are definitely better on the PC since u don't need to be immersed and and the mouse kicks the analogue in terms of versatality. FPS and RPGs depends on you. i definitely like playing RPGs on a console better but thats me. FPS will have better graphics in the future than consoles, i'm not denying that but still, ppl like me prefer the atmosphere on a console. the analogue stick is now much more improved so there is now a thin line between the ease of use of the mouse and analogue stick. Third person is a mystery. these games can be performed equally on both systems (although PC will have better graphics in the future) but i don't like controlling my bloke with a mouse in this case. Also, for actions such as change weapon or jump or anything like that, PC normally tends to make you let go of ur control and press the button, because lets face it, there is not as many as 11 buttons around the WASD buttons. Both the PS2 and XBOX contollers contain 12 "buttons", two analogue sticks and a D-pad at ur finger tips. The mouse and keybourd combined does not have this kind of ease of use.

Hello. Just wanted to say that i no longer read DRDEATH because his PC only supports capital letters or something...and his posts are too much-in caps. Anyways, why would you carry your hate of MS over to the XBOX? Apart from the name and the money that backs XBOX up, MS has pretty much no relations to the XBOX (apart from some in-house games). Think about it. And also, XBOX will definitely get a larger library of games soon since it is sooo easy to develope high-quality games on it without breaking a sweat. by high-quality, i mean in terms of graphics, FPS, environments etc. The gameplay depends on the developer. I have a thought. when the Dreamcast came out, there was never soooo much hate or anger for them. Many people still hated Sega because of loyalty, games preference etc. Could it be because some ppl are threatened by XBOX? Think about it. Analyse ur self and discover why you hate XBOX so much (please don't just say u don't like MS because that is seriosly becoming lame). One more thing i would like to mention: Console gamers generally don't keep their ever watchfull eye on the industry. Many (notice "many" not "most") only finds out about new products when it hits there TV. Then these idiots rush out and buys the damn thing. I'm not sure but i think the DC was sold even more than the GC and XBOX when it was first out. not sure... And that applies with some (notice "some") PS2 users. When it was out, they go "cool" "sick", because it was the best product in the market back then (not saying that it isn't now). Now that the GC and XBOX is out, ppl no longer can buy another console because their mommy will go," I already spent $700 (Aust) on it you brat." So they have to stick with it and make the most out of it. This applies to some people not all. Just wanted to put this out and see what everyone thinks.

Does having a game run at full resolution with anti-aliasing really make it that much better? I played all those pc games you mentioned drdeath at low graphical settings and I still had alot of fun. You make it seem as if graphics are the 'only' deciding factor in a video game when it should really be the games substance. As long as graphics don't interfere with the gameplay, its fine by me. Somewhere along the line you guys got spoiled.

Everybody I know that has xp has hade "blue screen of death" happen to them. Different causes and sometimes it seems as though without reason but when it happens a reinstall of xp is required and sometimes a format. XP can be a good os when it's working perfect but that's only half the time.

exactly... PC ports should stay on the Comp! Except for sporting games which play sweet on consoles. M$ is weak in that area but will improve later on... they just better hope Project Ego is X Box exlcusive only (they like 2 say exclusive even though its a PC port). As i sed b4 to rebute God's Hitman bout the graphics cards.... i agree with him but really i cant see any graphics right now of a PC game that beats DOA3 or RE (even though it is pre rendered). Show me a site with sceenshots and i can easily compare it with those mamoths of a game.

Another example of a PC version fo a game kicking console games ass is Grand theft auto 3. The PC version so stomped a mudhole in the PS2 version. Oh yea, and it does matter alot about the gameplay....most of the reason why GTA3 conquers over the PS2 version. "Not everyone wants to throw down cash every year to upgrade their pc". Back to the subject of hating Microsoft, unfortunately for them, many people judge the xbox based on MS's monopolistic behaviour and its terrible OS. If xbox was released by a totally different company, I think its sales would be slightly higher.
Graphics do not matter as much as content. And as long as console games remain separate from pc games (no crossovers please), there will always be a large consumer group for consoles even when their hardware is deemed inferior. Not everyone wants to throw down cash every year to upgrade their pc so as to play the next generation of pc games at their full graphical glory.

And yes.....on the console performance issue, i refuse to believe that any console produced graphics can beat out a well written PC game. In the recent ten years, PC's have always outperformed the consoles that were hot at the time. Yes Xbox has some very very impressive graphics at the time and can perform some of the functions of a PC.......maybe becuz its nearly an actual PC! Are consoles soon to become just non-upgradable super efficient computers? What are you saying i havent ever bought or played a console before. Are you saying i should go look up some games(look at screenshots?) and decide how good the graphics are. I can tell you by experience that for most games can never be justified by just screenshots.

Hi everybody, you might remember me from such posts as "4 reasons PS2 is the best" and "list of good PS2 games" most of which sloose posted while I was typing. God's Hitman you suggested I get a name but I can't leave my address etc...
pOO pOO- PS2 console was not mediocre when it came out. It's just that tech moves so fast that it's specs shortcome the other more recent consoles now.
God's Hitman- I am biased and I diss the box quite a bit but maybe it's because all my life I have been plauged with M$ problems. Countless ones including the blue screen of death like 15 times or so. It's possible that Xbox is not all bad, but I'm still hating M$ for all the grief they have caused me. As for the logo on these pages I was wondering myself... but can't figure that out.
Sloose- I agree with just about everything that you say, but how can you not let M$ hate carry over to the xbox? That M$ name on that xbox is one of the reasons I can't stand it.
And I agree with you that the ps2 is a bit over-priced and sony could stand to slash another $50 from its price. But I don't think that would be too good for either Nintendo or Microsoft because it would take an even bigger chunk out of their sales.
Ack, God's Hitman I can't believe you love winxp - you too p00_p00. I was running it and I would continually get the 'blue screens of death', I finally narrowed down the problem to a single firewall program that I was running. Then there was the time it refused to run win32 programs altogether. MS has a bad reputation because they cannot produce a stable os. http://hjem.get2net.dk/annes/Keyboard.htm Im running windows 2000 now just because it is the most stable version out now. Linux is a far superior os in terms of stability but developer support for it is low. Netscape in its prime was much better than Internet Explorer but then they had to integrate IE into windows. Now its so much simpler to use IE. Thats why I hate MS on the computer front, *but* I don't carry any of the hate over to the xbox.

Also forgot to mention PROJECT EGO!!! SoUnds like Morrowind but probly better graphics.... 2 bad GC dont have a HD in it cause they COULD run Project Ego with their current CPU and GPU.... but is unable 2 save all the small things in it. Oh and it was Project Ego which had made me realise that X Box wasnt so bad after all (as well as Nintendofire.com u guyz have 2 visit there 1 day... all consoles are treated equally)

PC, people, when you talk about "consoles", i believe that u are sub-consiously talking about the older types of consoles. i understand that it will take more time for you to fully understand the power the next-gen consoles promise. Just keep in mind that consoles like GC and XBOX, although not in system specs, but in performance are out-running PC games at the moment. Halo, Moto GP (XBOX), DOA3, Rogue Leader and this Air-Craft game on the GC (don't know its name) has proven themselves worthy of competing with the likes of top-of-the-range PC titles. Most of u PC ppl just sit in a small spce holding ur mouse/keyboard like ur life and never steps out of the hole u live in, so i suggest that u look up some of these console games first b4 u say one more thing.

f**k you SexGod, and i do not mean that litraly. If Sony looks after their customers then MS looks after their customers just as much. Office, Windows and Encarta was never a rip off. They are all powerful, easy to use, and out can compete with the professional suites at a fraction of the cost. U can produce nearly the same results on PhotoDraw as you would with Adobe PhotoShop and others like it. Sony is the rip off artists. Their electronics are always the most expensive in their range (although they are of some pretty high quality, though there are better for money). I believe both looks after their consumers. But on that note, a friend of mine owned a PS2, and the disk got stuck in it for some obscure reason. he ran up Sony's Customer Support, and they offered to replace the console since the console was stuffed and after some investigation, it was discovered that the fault lied in the consle itself. But they didn't offer to replace the game! The XBOX customer support offers to replace the console, plus, if the game was inside when the console brakes down, they will replace the whole package. Geez no wonder their losing money, wait a minute what i'm i talking about?!!

Sony aint concentrated on gaming... if they were they would b makin a lot of First party developments like Nintendo. Sony had the headstart and jsut brought out a mediorce console (in terms of power) to attract 3rd party supports. Their online plan is on par with Nintendo (almost non existent) and they are quickly losing exclusive titles to the GCN and X Box. DOnt get me wrong... i have respect for PS2 and less for M$ but i cant beleive u sed they look after gamers..... y dont they sell the console at cost price to look after gamers like Nintendo and M$?

And on the subject of piracy, it is a larger problem on pc than it is on console. For ps2, you have to buy a mod, if you can't install it yourself, usually there'll be some guy who charges outrageous prices to install it for you. Then you have to buy a specific Gameshark to boot them up. Or if your lucky, you can find/afford a non-swap mod (which is extremely harder to install). That just doesn't compare to only having to spend 25 cents for a cd to burn an iso you downloaded for the pc.
And Psycho, did you own Space Harrier for your Sega Master System? If there's one game to get you hooked onto console gaming it would have to be that.

I agree with richards last post about having a PC and an Xbox. Im gutted that Xbox got Halo first, but the PC release should be better because of that. Xbox has proved the game to be cool, and a good test for the market. I too own both and am still waiting for better Xbox games to come out though.
Xbox is the first console I have owned apart from a Sega Master System about 10 years ago, and Im glad that I have stuck with my PC, otherwise I would have a cupboard full of old dead consoles. Consoles have their place as a quick fix and not a lot more, purely because of the lack of backwards compatability (except PS2) and no upgradeability.

Sloose. By 'OZ' I meant Australia, and yes the ps2 did cost $700 on release. $1.00AUS is worth about $0.50US. Which means a lot of imported goods cost about twice what they do in the US. Currently both XBX and PS2 are selling for $400AUS, which is about $200US. The price of a ps2 barely dropped for two years because there wasn't any competition, in the past 6 months it has almost halved. Sony is just like any other money-hungry multi-national, and they will financially rape you for every dollar they can get if they are not kept under check with adequate competition.

The PS2 is cool, the gamecube has some real original games coming out for it, Ive bought an xbox cos I liked it so much, but still waiting for better games.
With all of this, time and time again, I find myself going back to PC. Upgrading is a bitch, and maybe its being able to surf for p0rn influencing me, but the variety of games out there is amazing, and its not always big companies, look at the CS mod.
For me, PC's will always rule, but as to which console takes 2nd, only time will tell.

WTF! Have you ever even tryed to play a PC game using a tv instead of a monitor. Well if you ever have, then you would have realized that a TV's resolution is about 10 times worst than a computer monitor's resolution.(yes, games like quake 3 look 100 times better if you go beyond the tv resolution of 640x480 dipshit) Maybe that is why you say PC's suck......becuz if you play all of your PC games on a fukin tv you can only get a lower resolution......which looks like shit. And if PC games suck so badly.......then why have PC games had things such as online multi-player for years before consoles. What do you think they develope console games on also? huh? Why isn't the XBX getting the most quality games? Because ps2 already has a dominating user base, forcing developers to build inferior games on an inferior system. If all PS2 games were on the XBX they could have much better graphics, 5.1 Dolby digital, online and 64 player LAN capabilities. Yet again a huge multi-national has squashed the opposition with shear weight of numbers, not with a superior product. Competition = better value + better products. No one can argue that. In OZ the PS2 was released at around $700-800, 6 months ago they were selling around the $600-700 mark. Today they are $400. The XBX was $650 on release; it is now also $400.
I reckon gamecube is going down.. xbox will have sheep loads of games soon so erryone will buy em.

The main reason y X Box gets some exclusives is because it has the power 2 run them... i admitt. MS's original plan was to sell 9 million consoles in 6 months, now they cannot even achieve that in more than a whole year.
Let's work out this game developer scenario. Developers will choose their console of choice in this order ps2>gamecube>>>>>xbox. Developers look at these analysts reports to see which system would generate the most amount money for their game. Studies such as these will have an impact on sales in the long run. I wouldn't be surprised if some games on xbox are dropped altogether.
I hope xbox gets discontinued quickly, a $50.00 xbox sounds like a good deal to me.

All I have to say is, ouch! 48.4 million PS2's, 15.1 million GameCubes and a pathetic 6.9 million XBox's by the end of 2002. Although this is just a study, I'm certainly not surprised by the figures. Does anyone else hear the death chimes ringing for the xbox? History shows that 3 consoles have never been able to coexist without at least one being killed off.
And I wouldn't say consoles are worthless. Especially when certain games are specific to either pc or console. You'll never see a zelda on pc for example.
Consoles are worthless. They are so limited in what you can do in comparision with a PC. I would never buy a console because certain games only appear on certain consoles. PC games don't have this problem. I also hate multiplayer games for the consoles because of the split screen. Overall, I see no reason why anyone should own any of the lastest consoles. They are a thing of the past.
