DC had a few games online, but not enough. With the PS2, finally a console is going to take online gaming seriously. but still, they won't succeed with that shit plan. It's amazing how the media has forgotten about systems that were before the new ones, and it takes regular people to point out their mistakes. As in the message before mine the Dreamcast was one of the first online systems, and although the XBox does have the ability to go online by using great programs like XBConnect we also have to remember that the PS2 could have a USB network adapter plugged in to the front of it to play online also. So to calm waters between Xbox people and PS2 people, let's say the PS2 was the "offcial" online console of the next gen. systems, but the can get off their high horse and stop thinking they were the first - that is just not true.

I think they need to change the Topic. Xbox was the 1st online console however PS2 did come out with a adapter 1st. Even though I dont' like Playstatio because they keep coming out with consoles like the PS3(which is suppose to be a myserty machine) is stupid.They make you buy more consoles while the Xbox is still on the 1st time out. I think SE relized they are going to get defeated in the market because the PS2 has only been out for 2 yrs while the Xbox hasn't even been out a year and already SE is building another console. Even though Microsoft is a "evil" company I am going to go with them. They built a machine not a small update console like the PS2.

In my opinion i think that the dreamcast was the first true online console with Phantasy Star Online which i still play and there is loads of people that still play. The game has brilliant detail to graphics and rarely any lag online.

I am not directing this to every1 here but "f**k'n Fanboys!!!!!" AHHHHHHHHH 1) Nintendo is not kiddy. PS2 has mre kiddy games than nintendo in terms of volume.
2) PS2 is not obsolete YET and has some mre good years in it. I know a lot of ppl who are goin 2 buy a PS2 next year after the HSC (a sec skool exam to get in2 uni/college) and they all want PS2's. Ps2 aint near dead and its sales will continue 2 climb.
3)GC graphics are awesome and can easily match X Box at the moment.
4) X Box is the cheapest console in Aus now, selling at $200 US including Halo and a DVD remote. Hence it is HEAPS good value since it has a farkin GeForce 3 in it!

ok first of all. i don't know about all you ps2 owners out there. but i got a ps2 when it first came out. and since then my ps2 has gotten screwed over so it won't read even and audio disk 4 times. and 4 time's i've had to send it in. its now broke again. and its not worth fixing for me. so who cares about the stupid ps2. it sucks ass either that or i got 4 bad ps2's. you tell me. i got the replacements right from sony. and anywho the pc will always be better for games. i mean you can play your ps games on the computer. maybe not leagaly but you still can. and i haven't looked into it cause i don't own the other counsels but i bet someones wrote something to play xbox and gc games on the pc. It was the NES, yep that had a modem and was online so realistically the ps2 isn't the first online console.The XBOX doesn't have the best online plan, nor the ps2. the xbox only supports broadband, which isn't supported in most countries. The ps2 apparantly only has 56k support. But the gamecube infact supports 56k and broadband which seems to be the option for me. Exclusivity, thats right. The Gamecube has the edge! Res-evil series , Die hard, Mario, zelda, starfox, metroid, eternal darkness, Perfect Dark, Final Fantasy (GBA-GC exclusive) etc. Exclusive galore! Blazin_8.

The tom clancy games your talking about are also coming to the cube. Dont Underestimate. Its not kiddy. For starters it has the resident evil series and eternal darkness exclusive which are the best horror titles out there, it also has plenty of shooters like die hard and Perfect dark which you wont see on other consoles.

Fact is that you'll never be able to play certain games coming out on consoles no matter how good they are cause you'll always stick with the good ol' PC. I have been playing my xbox online for 2 months now. Playstation 2 is not the first! DC was and even still the xbox beat it to the punch. but hey i suppose anyone dumb enough to still play the ps2 with it's horribly slow glitchy graphics would be dumb enough to waste their money on an adapter... i use a program called XBConnect. I am also aware of a few others programs allowing you to play XBOX over the internet. I advise you to look into this before dubbing playstation the first. and yes i do have GC,PS2 and XBOX...
and SSMB is by far the best party game out there...so give it some credit guys. thx.

An exciting time for the console world indeed. However, it is not the FIRST console to be online. In 1995, Catapult Entertainment and Blockbuster Video launched the "X-band" (see story here: http://www.gamezero.com/team-0/whats_new/past/x-band.html). It sold very poorly, at the time the internet was still a very new thing most people hadnt ventured into yet.

Damn right guys! Sony seem to think that they have opened new doors and breached new horizons in gaming. We all know that the Dreamcast was one of the first and best to distribute online gaming. Even after the demise of the DC they still shipped out the new Dreamkey browser which allowed you to use your own ISP. I still have my DC sitting right behind me next to my TV. PS2 owners can deny it as much as they want but they know deep down that Sega came up with the idea first, and put it into practicality. You can hardly say that Sony are the pioneers in console gaming, seeing as the Playstation only came out in the UK around 1996. I remember my 8th Birthday when I got my Master system. A glorious moment.. SONY-- Leave the console side up to the masters and stick to what you are good at, making rediculuosly over priced electrical appliances.

ps2 is pretty good, i went to the PS2 Experience Expo in london last week and the graphics on some of the upcoming games like tomb raider 6 and mortal kombat 5 are pretty good, turok evolution looks awesome, as does tekken 4 and a whole load more, the early games released on the ps2 were somwhat rushed, unlike the X Box's halo which was announced or pc in 1997, and had loads of screen shots available even back then.

If consoles really want to get ahead in the market they should make an upgradeble graphic card.... My friend boughtb a ps2 ont he first day they were realeased and he bought 2 games with it. Mortal Kombat was always meant for the console, I mean fighting type games are alway more popular on a console anyways. I dont like the ps2 either, but thats for a different reason.. I use my pc for all the above, but I got an xbox for the simple reason, it has games that own. Console titles are hard to convert to pc, but its easy to take a pc code and convert it for a console, seeing as it takes pc based tools to make a console game...Jr, the ps2 will have a few deceont online titles by xmas, but its going to be rough mainly cause the server schematics, and connecting via both a modem or a lan device will disrupt alot of the network play. I expect some lag on any network game over the net, but thats from all the pc gaming I do. Consoles have in the past made networking look like the best thing for them via system linking.. But now the console world will have to deal with the lag just like the rest of us.

Uh, the Dreamcast was online way before the PS2. The Dreamcast ships with a modem built-in, and has since day 1.

I just wanned 2 give u all my opinion of all this mambo-jambo...I have a PC - 2GHZ, Geforce2 MX400, 256 DDR and i like it. I aint gonna lie, i have nothing about PS or any other consoles, its just that its 2 god damn expencive 4 me and many others. I use my PC 4 games, work, art, internet( mail, stuff ),movies, powerful sound system and fuk knows what else. The thingy that PS2 and PS and many other consoles are connected directly 2 TV and use small resolution 320x240+ alowes em 2 gain preformance and its standard 2 every gamer but its shit, all it does is steals computer games.
Man im a major fan of MORTAL KOMBAT and now 5 comes out and they didnt make it 4 PC.. Thanks alot Midway.
But yet they made alot of puter games cuz u could play online only with PC.
Now if PS2 will have this connection shit 2 internet then bye bye decent PC games. I mean PS2 is just a dumb console, ppl hack games on PC and the companies get major loss in cash, so what now ?? It would be gr8 if u could play PS2 vs PUTER on internet, otherwise I dunno man, I think i just g2 buy damn modship if it allowes 2 use the same option. And 2 PS2 - f**k u mother, never liked u, never will.
