Well the figures in the article do point to it being the PC version, however for some reason it is in the console news section, and it refers to a date in 2007...when the PC version wasn't released yet. Most important point though, is that the PC version was obviously looked at by many as "just another console port", and many who can afford the bandwidth simply download it to have play. For the reason of it being "just another console port", I have not, and will not touch it. As long as they continue to do this with games (porting to PC in an attempt to con the market when the product is 6-months-old), their sales will not reflect the work they put into developing them.

"Waaah, we damaged our reputation by intentionally putting a bug in the game for pirated versions. Waaaaaaah."Tough s**t about that. Realize that most review sites that you don't give the game to don't go out and buy it, and adjust your tactics accordingly. Though if the game was done and I found that leak I would have released a downloadable edition of the game with the first few chaptors (the same that worked on the pirated one) for half the retail price, and give half off the full purchase. But did ubisoft think of this? No, because they can't see an opportunity, they can only act as a victim and then abuse the court system.

@ Anon 2:19 a lot of work, and quality regarding ideas, graphics and so on yes, but the gameplay just isn't there, it's boring, just like gears of war and Crysis, all shine no depth. the only difference between crysis, gears of war and the james bond game golden eye for the N64 is a different universe, only people with a console would buy it. mostly i would say PC gamers are smarter, devious(in the way that many(including myself) like to pirate) and belong to the hardcore gamers group, consolers are dumped in the casual pool, casual gamers are destroying the game industry, EA and such know they will wont stand up to their s**tty and buggy games. hardcore gamers care about gaming, casual consolers just play halo 3 with their auto-aim.

I would love to agree with you about retail but i just can't. Steam just wins me over vs retail. here's the one word that kills steam and other digital download services: RESALE(1) i can go on ebay and buy a used game for dirt cheap; after i play it for a month and loose interest, i can go back on ebay and sell it for basically what i paid for it. in essence, the game cost me almost nothing (2) i can go on steam and buy a game for steam's retail asking price; after i play it for a month and loose interest, i can go back on steam and sell it for... um... uh...

@0:17 - While Steam's "numbers" don't lie, you aparently do. You see, as a DD fangirl, you aparently forgot that Steam/Valve doesn't release their online unit sales figures for any game download through their service. If you know these numbers while Valve doesn't, it means I can call you a "liar". Now, if you want some real numbers that don't lie, then go and count the number of physical PC games units that are sold each year at one of the many, many non-DD outlets out there, such as BestBuy, Circuit City, Amazon, Walmart, Target, eBay, etc. Maybe it's just me, but I think those numbers explain why gamedaily estimates that only 5% of pc games are bought from DD... sweetheart

those online gaming statistics are from 2007, not 2008, so they're probably a bit higher today. regardless, if online distribution was added to assassin's creed 40,000 retail sales, i doubt it would raise its total sales by several million to surpase the game on the consoles

Mario, you should shut your mouth and read the nonsense of your own words. If you actually looked at "the big picture", you'd have discovered that digital distribution makes up a very small percentage of PC game sales. Approximately 85% of PC gamers buy their games in retail outlets. Less than 5% of PC gamers mainly purchase their games through digital distribution. There's a good reason why most enthusiants don't blame digital distribution for console games outselling PC games on paper--factoring in DD hardly changes anything! I don't know what picture your looking at, but it certainly isn't based in reality.

Mario
at 22:17 8/8/2008

Something tells me we got a lot of fanboyism going on, Why do we get console kiddies on here and not looking at the big picture. NPD sales does not count for online distribution. Because i stop buying retail and opt for purchasing my games via digital distribution.

We have mass saturation at present of a console market, that is all. its not to say one platform over the other is in any condition to suggest that it is "dying"
|
Anonymous
at 20:23 8/8/2008

Yes, nVidia sells millions of cards to a PC platform that's dying. That's why they just reported last month that their 2008 Q2 sales were down 8%, which also caused their stock shares to lower 20% in value (thank you, Intel integrated graphics). ATI, however, is making a killing since all those millions of Wii's and 360's contain ATI video cards.

To slmarker: If you say WoW has 10 million subscribers that pay $15 a month, I'll say that Xbox Live has 10 million subscribers that pay $50 a year... and over 150 million dollars on arcade game downloads alone. PC is not dead pc sales of sims outsold consoles by a HUGE margin. WOW has 10 million subscribers every month at 15 dollars a month. PC gaming is far from dead and sims and other simulation games like that keep it going.

the "pc is dead" debate is questionable. however, the statment that single-player games dont sell well on pcs seems to be true. when thinking of a singleplayer game that came out on both pc and consoles, i cant think of even 1 instance where the pc version outsold the console version.

The PC version of Assassin's Creed sold 40,000 copies in its first 2 months after release. However, in the same 2-month period of time, the 360 version sold 3.8 million copies and the PS3 version sold 2.8 million copies. Even if every single pirated PC copy was purchased legally, PC sales wouldn't have even cleared a million copies. In summary:Console Sales: 6,000,000 PC Sales: 40,000 If PC sales make up less than 1% of console sales, you have to be an idiot to think that PC gaming isn't dead.

F-ing retards, two things, first everyone knows the PC is dying so thats reason one and two of course tons of people downloaded the game instead of buying it. Hello if you could have something for free or the same thing for a dollar, youd take free. You could have zero downloads and still only sell 40,000, why? Cause those 40,000 were WILLING to pay for it. Plus the bug thing, that's your fault, you make fault stuff on purpose then guess what word gets around. You shot yourself in the foot on that one...

Wasn't all that impressed with the game, didn't half half the promised depth and the simple controls as well as repetative gameplay really made it hard to forget that it is a console port. In any case, this lawsuit is just, at least Ubisoft is doing something about pirating and not just crying about their sales being bad.
