Unoptized. It made even my geforce 6800 GT strain a little. Having said that, I still enjoyed playing the game. I just wish that it was better optimized for the PC. It is a good game. The game ran awful, or maybe it was just my settings. anyways, I have a radeon 9600 and now that I've downloaded and played half of the demo, the graphics are great, the framerate is smooth 75 fps (because upping from the default of 30 is something anyone who is above the age of 9 can do) but my crappy old sound card can't proccess the sound correctly so it jitters and itterupts the current sounds being played like the transmissions from cortana or that random marine lady. Anyways, im satisfied so im going to buy it from my friend for cheap tommorow. Good luck everyone with getting this game to work well. Oh, and I used a fake name. Rufus is an awesome name though. Adios. Rufus at 17:32 10/5/2004 I'll just try and summarize this for the intelligent people who can read. On certain video cards, there are probloms with the default settings. Mess around and change things on the demo version to see if it is possible to get things working correctly on your system. This doesn't mean setting everything to low. Apparently turning off anti aliasing or turning it on will be good or bad. Make sure you have the latest drivers and the newest direct X version (for people who randomly come here in a few years, the current direct X is 9.0b at the time of writing... incase of incompatibility). Some video cards or systems work better than others, usually the better graphics cards with more ram and better proccessers will get you better performance. Instead of flaming each other or the game with "omfg this game sucks everything is low on my settings" why not actually try manipulating some stuff? Anyways, try the demo, test your system, test the game, if you like it, get the game. I can get it from a friend for a cheap price because his video card isn't great or he hasn't tweaked his settings. DM at 12:31 6/11/2003 For the guy who has a good machine but this runs slowly, the reason it runs slower is because you are using FSAA on a game that uses DX9 shaders. The shaders are seperate programs that apply effects to the textures in the game, FSAA isnt programmed to effect these shaders in HALO because the effects are applied in a different memory buffer from the game textures and no static immages are generated apparently. (Bungee say the game doesnt support FSAA and tell us NOT to enable it and it makes no difference to the graphics, but still lowers the framerates) Anyone running a P4 with Hyper Threading would notice a speed boost because all the shader programs runing would be processed better, this is why Halo (being a PROPER DX9 game) runs slower than other DX8 games. Over-all I would say that the demo of Halo is very good. The demo is quite long and action packed. The graphics are nice is you have a fast video card. I would say that you should download this game if you have a fast videocard, and arn't bothered by the fact that there really isn't a large selection of baddies\wepons to use. The game is hard, without a joystick. The game play is is horrid (like playing command and conquer renagade)the wort-hog doesnt even fell like it is on the terrain it slides far to much. I must be far to into realalistic games because i couldnt believe how many hits u can take and how many the enemy can recieve. The grafics were probably the only good part and they were not that good. I find that it sucks on internet play, when all people do is fly close to the ground and chomp u in half. I guess i just had far to high of hope and i have played the xbox version and it is not much better. Over all if i want the wonderful first person shooter and multiple vehicle style of game play i will stick to battle field 1942 and by the way that is only for computer. My PC: 2090MHz CPU 1024 megabytes of RAM 80 gigabyte hard drive if I don't like something, I can upgrade it. Xbox: 733MHz 64 megabytes of ram 8 gigabyte hard drive upgradable? slightly, much like giving yourself dental surgery(especially for a mod chip). So, why in the hell would I get an Xbox? If I support my household off of working at the drive-thu at Wendy's, yes a cheap ol' Xbox might seem more appealing. For those of us that have real jobs (and ½ a brain), there is no question, we prefer PCs. There is also a huge gap in the intelligence and complexity of gameplay between Xbox and PC games. I also prefer my 101 button gamepad (keyboard) and my mouse over a funky M$ designed joypad with cheesy analog sticks. I can get all that for the Xbox you say? I say, why bother. The PC has it all and much much more, easier, and in the long run, for less $.
