i'm not surprised if creative or any other of their partners wants to close down their deals with ati. sure, ati is in the spotlight right now but the fact is gamers and people working in the industry like nvidia better.

nVRULES!

at 0:18 24/5/2004

Creative Labs dumped ATI and continue to work with nVIDIA. Just like any other big well-known companies, they prefer nVIDIA over ATI.

------------------------------------
ATI LOSING ITS PARTNERS

Terratec has left the graphic business because of the pressure.
And now it seems that the giant Creative Labs which is ATI's most valuable partner is also feeling miffed, at least with one vendor of graphic card chips.

We understand that Creative won't use ATI technology - at least not this generation - or as a source told us it wants to "wind down their ATI business".

We don't know what broke up the marriage, but it's obvious that Creative Labs is unhappy with the current arrangement.

Creative will continue to support its current customers that have already bought cards and will supply product for as long as it necessary.

But as soon as ATI has fulfilled some contractual arrangements, Creative will just shut its ATI business down, we understand.
Creative Labs has promised us a detailed explanation this coming Monday.

However, we know that many ATI partners will love the news since this means more cards for them to sell, but I guess the startroopers at ATI's Mothership HQ is not very happy at losing the biggest retail partner from its score card.

We also learned that ATI wants to get closer to retailers, whatever that means, but it won't ship any cards directly which can lower sales drastically.

Creative Labs will continue to use nVIDIA chips, it appears.

if you overclock 6800 U to 700MHz

to 20000 i think

Why Nvidia fans get so upset by Ati claims? This should be good because when the time comes to buy another vid card the decision should be easy! ;-)

What company keeps winning the Vid card fight?
What company makes them smaller?
What company makes them cheaper?
What company doesnt rely on big heavy fans to cool their GPU?
What company will send me half life 2 for free?

;-) the answer is very simple!

you said that time will tell how important ps3.0 is... well most people buying these cards now have to make that judgement now, they cant wait. Also they have to say how important is ps3.0? If i get the ATi card and dont upgrade to R500 for whatever reason what will unreal 3 be like without ps3.0? that sort of thing. Now you tell me how important ps3.0 is. Is it an nvidia marketing ploy or something of equal importance as Ati's 3dc?

cantsay

at 4:15 15/5/2004

Also, of course ATI will say that there is no use for ps 3.0. They don't have it. Just like nvidia said that there was no use for ps 1.4. Either way, ps 3.0 may be a futureproofing effort on the part of nvidia. Just like the bridge chip on the pci-x cards from nvidia coming up. They are desinged for backwards forwards compatibility. Not everyone will by a refresh part because it supports a new feature (ps 3.0). Some people will buy nvidia so that when games with ps 3.0 come out, they have a card that can handle it. Time will tell how significant ps 3.0 really is. Oh and props to those booth babes at E3 for looking so fine! Thank you booth babes.

cantsay

at 4:10 15/5/2004

Well. After visiting both ATI and Nvidia's booth at E3. I have to say that the demo's were very good. Liesure Suit Larry was being displayed at the ATI booth, which was really nice. It was funny, just like the old Larrys. Anyway, the nvidia mermaid demo ... is incredible ... you can see every individual strand of hair and she is so detailed. They let you mess around with her emotions ... no pun intended ... as in you can make her happy, sad, smile, make her eyes squint. A whole range of things can be done with the demo and of course the ship demo with the ultra-realistic water. The capabilities of the card put me in a state of shock. On the other hand, the HL 2 demo at the ATI booth also put me in a state of shock. We will have to wait until the final release of half life 2 to actually know how the performance is on nvidia hardware. People, stop talking about conspiracies with ATI and Valve. They will not leave the people who have nvidia hardware high and dry. If they do, then they must have no business sense. There a lot of people out there with nvidia hardware who will not be buying another card for quite some time.

(continued...) oh yeah and 3dc looks awesome... and i do realise that i have performance performance written in that post, im average in the english department... i must admit tho that video of the Unreal 3 engine demo looked superb... i wonder if the makers will make many ps effects on the game not compatible with the Ati cards though, wont they lose some of the market then and lose money? i'll shut up now soz :S

Anonymous

at 3:46 15/5/2004

About the ps3.0 vs 2.0, would you rather have an X800XT with faster performance performance, better AA and better ASF performance in most games which supports shader 2.0, or a slower, bigger, hotter energy chewing 6800U with crap ASF performance and poor AA and IQ. Just having ps3.0 is not enough to outwiegh the other negatives, sorry. Plus will ps3.0 be a big leap anyway? What can it do besides display light going through a spinning cube and onto a player with an accurate shadow on the wall. I have seen brilliant ps2.0 effects on HL2, so im in doubt of the significance of ps3.0, but maybe im wrong. Someone argue with me.

OMG every1 here is biased...iv used many Ati and nvidia gpus and ai is better in graphics(when they get the drivers 2 support the game)

while nvidia was better in 3dmark but that is piontless scor counting for something none of us really use.. lets not forget that Ati "claims" world record but it was on an overclocked system and u can get any marks on an overclockd system depending on how far u go...

same as intel amd AMD...both are good CPUs but both suffer drawbacks...AMD is a good overclocker(overclocked mine 1GHZ usin TT heatsink to 3.2ghz) but to the piont. many ppl only buy the cards and leave em stock while some try overclocking to get better oomf so lets c the stock score b4 ppl say who is better??

and 2 b fair Ati only has driver probs coz most games r made to run better 4 nvidia coz there smart enough 2 sponser the game..if ati did this then they would b the undisputed GRaphics king no excuses

prvt.piles

at 4:57 14/5/2004

if i decide to buy eighther one o these cards. it will probably be the ati. just because i do not want to pay the extra 100 bucks to upgrade my power supply. as for now i have the 5900 ultra 256ram card. had problems with far cry at first. then i learned that it was not my card but my cpu. i was trying to run full settings with a 3200 barton. as soon as i upgraded to the 3200 64bit processor all of my problems went away. as for the nvidia 5900 ultra, i like it. i am however currious to fool around with the ati based cards.

As for Nvidia reducing power requirements. This purely a P.R. move to save face. When Nvidia released the 6800Ultra and put on it's spec sheets the card needed a 480W supply, the industry was surprised. What got worse for Nvidia however, was when ATI released the R420 chips and they proved to be faster and only took up 1 slot and required less power. Critisims all over began to appear about Nvidia's latest and greatest. Almost the same type of critisims they got when they released the Dust Buster on the 5800Ultra.
Now Nvidia has went the route of downplaying the power requirements because of this bad press. If i were the dumb ass to even consider buying ther 6800Ultra, i would never consider using a power supply less then 400W for that card. Nvidia does not always tell the truth as we have found out the past 2 1/2 years.

cantasy, that's what you call a good vision plan on the part of ATI. Nvidia went the other route and look where they are now...2nd place...again. Good job ATI. Keeps Nvidia on it's toes...

"i would definatley go with nvidia, there drivers are way better..."

Not for the past 2 years they have not been. And their latest Drivers have some UBRE issues with current "Way It's Mean't To Be Played' titles such as FarCry and Unreal 2004. The latest Catalyst drivers have no such issues. The only issues i have seen for the past year or so with drivers are from Nvidia. "OPTIMIZATIONS" and other form of driver hacks....and now evn more possible cheating in FarCry. The ATI driver issue as far as iam concerned is a dead issue delt with 2 years ago. It seems Nvidia needs to revamp their drivers back to the days of the Geforce4 era

Only thing with PS3.0 like all the other shader protocols, it takes at least 1 year for it to become fully standard. It takes that long to develop games. Almost all the titles coming out for 2004 are running under PS2.0. The games that actually use PS3.0 will only be hybrid versions very much like FarCry. Unreal 3 will take full advantage of PS3.0, however that will be released in 2005.

Anonymous

at 16:57 11/5/2004

Yeah ATI got stung when they first went PS 1.4. However the thing is this how fast will PS 3.0 be picked up. I mean PS 2.0 hasn't really been picked up well. True PS 3.0 is more efficient than PS 2.0b, however they both provide indentical visuals. PS 3.0 is faster. When it is in full use the NV40 will be the old generation PS 3.0, because the R500 will be out. 3dc is where it is at right now. Twice the amount of detail in a normal map with no memory bottlenecking.

Anonymous

at 16:50 11/5/2004

Actually TSMC is not responsible for low-k silicon. ATI is the company that researched and developed samples and blue prints to foward to TSMC. Hoever TSMC still deserves credit. Nvidia has publically stated that low-k is dangerous, sure it is if your competitor is masterful with it. I bet not many of you know that ATI was the key developer for GDDR3 and the soon to come GDDR4 along with samsung.

cantsay

at 15:59 11/5/2004

To tell you the truth. I am impressed with TSMC for totally coming through for ATI. Their business is growing at an alarming rate and they deserve it. They are really good at what they do. The reason that I am leaning towards an ATI x800 pro at this point is because I like the idea of a low-k engineered cool running card. TSMC desrves a lot of the credit.

cantsay

Bill Gates, ruler of the software empire has decided that his firm will not release longhorn until 2006. That gives ps 3.0 at least a year and a half to play until dx 10 comes along and spoils the party. DX 9.0c has already been shipped off to developers (april some time); we just haven't recieved an end user version yet. The success of ps 3.0 I, suppose, will come from nvidia giving proper instruction and assistance to developers so that they can use these new features. This reminds me of how Nvidia was crying about ps 1.4 and how it was unnecessary because they used ps 1.3. Now ATI is crying about how ps 3.0 is unnecessary because they use ps 2.0. Lets give ps 3.0 a chance to prove itself before we start taking a dump on it. Time will tell if it is unnecessary.

Yes 3dc will be the standard compression solution since normal maps are here to stay. I understand that these games will definetly supports 3dc, Serious Sam2, Half-Life2, STALKER, Colin Mcrae 2005. It will become industry standard because it is free. When I find the source for this info I will post it, because I forgot where I read it.

I sold my Nvidia card too some poor suckor today.. Got rid of my 5900(overclocked to 5950 speeds). Turns out my friends 9800pro overclocked kicked my cards ass so i sold it and bought a 9800 pro from newegg.. Holy cow.. The graphics look so much better on certain games.. Boy was i tricked by nvidia into thinking my card was the way games were meant to be played.... shame on you nvidia for lying to me and the countless hundreds of people that own a nvidia card...

HAHAHAHA I love how all the Nvidiots are soooo f**king jealous over this and are crying about how 3dmark is biased towards ATi when its the other f**king way around retards. Nvidia cheated on 3dmark 2003 and on the far cry benchmarks

HERE IS PROOF NVIDIA CHEATED ON 3DMARK BENCHMARKING YOU RETARDED NVIDIOTS:

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,1086025,00.asp

Read that bitches and learn how nvidia should stop wasting it's time in cheating and actually develop a decent card that doesn't require a vaccum, an extra pci slot and a 480 watt psu to power the piece of shit.

"On the high end of things, it looks like the single-slot Radeon X800 Platinum Edition has the advantage over the power-hungry, dual-slot Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra, but the decision between the two also depends on how much you want Shader Model 3.0 support. If you choose the GeForce Ultra, you'll have to add an expensive power supply to your order, but you'll be able to sleep soundly at night knowing that you'll have Shader Model 3.0 hardware ready when you need it. If you choose the ATI card, you'll still have a next-generation part, and you can put the money saved from not upgrading your power supply toward that SM 3.0-capable card you'll be buying two years from now."

On The Fence

at 10:14 11/5/2004

It is now official that the supposed power hungry Geforce 6800 Ultra, no longer requires alot of power. Nvidia, after recieving lots of criticism for announcing that their card needs 480w P.S.U has now changed its statement to 350w. Tests and recent studies conclude that the card has no trouble at all running with these new power requirements. It will still have 2 molex connectors, but i believe the second connector will mainly be for overclocking. For ppl who still need more juice, to boost there cards right up. Now, with manufactures soon to be producing there own design of cooling we are sure to see 1 slot designs of this card soon. In the end it always comes down to price and performance, stability under extreme conditions and normal, compatability and last but not least reliability. Which ever card can achieve these things the best will ultimately be the best.

Razine

at 10:6 11/5/2004

Just the fact that the R420 runs a 1 slot solution and has all that power taht can fit in my LAN form box is reason for me to sell my soul for that card. The 6800 is too big and too power hungry for me. Even the 12 pipeline r420 wins in some tests over Nvidia's flagship 6800ultra. Good card Nvidia. But not practical or good enough to trump the R420. Dell and IBM and Compaq will love the R420. And since it requires so little power, imagine the mobile chip version. I can't see a mobile 6800Ultra version. WAYYYYYY to hot. Unless it's a major cut down version of it....

Nvidia will look really stupid if ATI skip over PS 3.0 totally and goes with PS 4.0. What Nvidia has to understand is that ATI dictates the shadermodel spec. But I really agree strongly that ATI has chosen the correct path for 2004.

CaptainDark Meat

at 9:8 11/5/2004

I wouldn't say that the R420 and NV40 have similar performance. In quite a few game the R420 beats the NV40 by 20 to 30 fps. NV40's video chip is lazy as well making the CPU do all the work. ATI's AF and AA is amazing. The NV40's supersampling 8XAA makes games unplayable while ATI's 6X AA is just stunning. Also the R420 is a quiet efficient one slot solution. My computer is up to date, however I don't have two power connector to spare, and I know 99.9% of you guys do not have two free connectors either. However both of ATI's and Nvidia flaships are priced equally, therefore I would not pay for something slower. I would definetly go with the X800.

at 8:50 11/5/2004

Nvidia fanboys will defend their company(thats what is sad. They think it's THEIR company, when in fact Nvidia does not give a rats ass about it's consumers. The whole FX line supports this) to the very end. When the 5800Ultra came out, Nvidia fanboys rejoiced in pleasure even though the card was a failure. OEM's, game developers, hardware reviewers all said the card and the FX line was a failure. Only people dending it was Nvidia fanboys. And this will continue with the 6800Ultra. The R420 is all around faster. Especially when quality settings are enabled and resolutions are increased. (Is this not the reason someone would spend $499.99+ on a video card? Or are you the type of person that spends that type of cash and only plays your games at 1024x768 without AA+FSAA enabled? If so. You're a fool)
What makes this a issue is once again history is repeating itself. The R3xx chips ran faster then the NV3xx chips and offerd superior and faster AA. Now the R420 is doing the same. And like the 9700pro, the X800 cards are single slot solutions and require minimal power requirements. The NV40 like the NV30 are 2 slot solutions that require drastic power requirements compared to ATI.
The NV40 and X800 are very similar in performance but the NV40 is such a inconvience and too big for most PC boxes. It's not practical. And it's slower then ATI's 2 big chips. That's a double whammy

Anonymous

Both cards are great. It's just that ATI has raised the ante again.

Either way ATI chose the correct path for 2004 with PS 2.0b. The R420 is faster smaller comsumes less power. It also has the best AF and AA, ATI's 6XAA is lengendary.

how is the chip.de statment stupid, nvidia was the one who couldn't give a straight answer i swear nvidiots are stupid. nvidia looks dumb for giving a lame conclusion. the whole point of the article is to show that nvidia is hiding something. if you read the article it says the nvidia left our german colleagues with a lame explaination.

Anonymous

at 5:51 11/5/2004

The NV40 is too big. Period. Just like the 5800 was. Nvidia fanboys want to defend it. Go ahead. You can't. It's slower then the R420 and bigger. PS3.0 is the only saving grace for the NV40 and that won't come into effect until it's too late. 2005 by the earliest. DX9.0c has to come out in full effect first. THEN developers have to make games to run PS3.0 fully. Too many IF'S for a 6 month refresh cycle period. By then ATI will have their PS3.0 compliant card.

Anonymous

at 5:49 11/5/2004

Yeah you dumb ass chip.de wanted to find out why the two Nvidia drivers do not show any consistency. However Nvidia did not tell them. All Nvidia told them was about renaming the .EXE, which is a lame explanation.

Anonymous

at 5:47 11/5/2004

"The performance these two architectures have is somewhat similar. Things that differ are image quality, features and physical aspects. Because of better FSAA quality we consider ATi still to be on the lead. On the feature side the NV40 looks, on paper, like the most impressive with Shader Model 3.0. ATi have not been idle though, and the Pixel Shader 2.0b is at least a step forward although not as big as the one NV40 made. What ATi has got that nVidia has not is 3Dc, which could result in improved image quality and/or performance.
Looking at the physical characteristics there is no doubt who's got the advantage: ATi's card is smaller, less power consuming, is slightly more silent and only need one card slot. To deliver such a great performance with a card that has a relatively low physical profile, low power consumption and generates little heat is nothing else but exceptional."

"The higher the resolution and the more AA/AF the bigger the advantage over GeForce 6800 becomes. In 1600x1200 with 4xAA/8xAF X800 XT is 3.29 times faster than GeForce 6800 Ultra. The fact is that even Radeon 9800 XT beats NV40 with these settings."

"Worth mentioning is that NV40 during present circumstances are using the same path as NV3x in Far Cry. This results in NV40 using more Pixel Shader 1.1 than R420 does in our test. Briefly you can say that NV40 has worse image quality and performance right now. We are waiting for the next patch where this will be fixed. Possibly the extremely low results in 1600x1200 with 4xAA/8xAF are some sort of bug as well."

And Nvidots want to say ATI has driver issues. Good god. As for over clocking. You can barely over clock the 6800. But you can over clcok the 800pro card and XT quite higher.

Man you are a f**king idiot, Nvidia was the one who did not give a clear answer, when interviewed by chip.de the germans you dumb bitch.

here is the Article

WE WERE TOLD last week that Nvidia is again playing with some optimisation techniques.
According to chip.de, if, for example, you rename farcry.exe to fartcry.exe Nvidia's performance in 61.11 drivers will suffer a drop.

Nvidia commented on this anomaly but didn't leave our German colleagues with any reasonable explanations apart from one saying that if you rename the file you will remove Z culling. This is something of a lame explanation.

The article, in German, is here. µ

You f**king moron like it says Nvidia did not leave our German colleagues with any reasonable explainations. You are the stupidest bitch in this forum.

What with all this bullshit, Catalyst drivers are rated number one in the industry. I have has the 5700ultra and it has a few problems. Many review site say the the new Forceware drivers from Nvidia are the most unstable solution currently. So stop you're bullshit you fags. Just look at farcry the best game out right now, and also a part of "The way it is meant to be played" campaign" by Nvidia. Funny that it runs perfectly on the R420 and not the NV40.

Actually with optimised drivers Nvidia won't score more than ATI. The first test Nvidia did with the 6800ultra on 3dmark, used optimised drivers to begin with.

3dmark will probably say that nvidia is cheating although they know that with the optimized driver, nvidia scores a lot more than ati. in the other hand, futuremark and others already approved nvidia's drivers and having no problems on cheating. 3dmark accused nvidia of cheating last year too, you can see a pattern here. 3dmark + ati = ?
benches are not supposed to be biased right? errr right?

Refering to the driver issues: Catalyst drivers rock solid? Hardly... you only have to look at ATI's open issues on each release to see that - and before you accuse of of being a fanboyu I have both chipsets. And like many others my ATI machine used to crash when alt-tab-ing out of some games... the Omegas fixed that for me though. And this was officialy discussed at ATI boards and dev1

As for "nvidia had crappy drivers too" - I think you had a rush of blood to the head there... in my (humble) experience, nVidia drivers have been very stable since the says of TNT2 - around the time of the 6.0 dets. If you dissagree, fine just my experience - I have built a lot of rigs since then.

This is just one of those days when you have to pass judgment on two products that are both excellent but designed from two different perspectives. At one hand you have ATi’s Radeon X800 XT, small, quiet, low power, but with plenty of processing power. On the other hand there’s Nvidia’s GeForce 6800 Ultra, big, powerful, lots of raw processing power and plenty of new features. The Radeon X800 XT reminds me of a polished ruby. Radeon X800 XT will therefore be able to shine from the start, but will also not be much more than that, a polished ruby. The 6800 Ultra however is a diamond in the rough, freshly excavated and off to be cut and polished. That cut and polishing process is what’s going to make or break the diamond, it can be either a true 24-carat diamond or one of lesser quality. And how about the clockspeed both these graphics processors run at? ATi used to have a lower clockspeed than Nvidia, yet offering better performance. Things seem to have reversed now, ATi needs a 520MHz graphics processor to keep pace with Nvidia’s 450MHz processor, this means that Nvidia’s new architecture is faster and more efficient. Both use a 0.13-micron process to manufacture their processors, Nvidia talked to IBM and cut a deal with them, whereas ATi turned to TSMC for their silicon. Both these manufacturers have what it takes, but neither will be able to go around the clockspeed limits imposed by the process used. About 600MHz is as far as you’ll be able to clock a >150 million transistor 0.13-micron part. This means that ATi is already giving itself very little headroom, Nvidia however has got some room to play, a good 150 MHz, double that of what ATi has got left.

LOOKS LIKE nvidia needs to cheat once again with its higest end video card (6800ultra). Several german sites have stated nvidia is using heavy optimizations in far cry with its ultra card. They say if you change the name of the executable the frame rate and graphics degrade considerable where as they say the ati just works as it did before. They say nvidia didnt give much of an explanation other than a lame one. As for john caramack.. That guy is an idiot. Hes all about the money and the glory.. However hes idolized way too much. Coders of ut2004 and farcry have superior skills to that guy anyday. Look, at the games they make how quickly they are made.. Now look at caramaks game.. Alls he can produce is doom this doom that.. Wake up people, hes a one hit wonder and his games arent anything special other than something repetitive. But us people made it what it is.. A sutainable game even though its nothing special and any coder could make doom3 these days.. let alone that cheesy game quake.

well you guys have laid it all out here ive read all the posts and i think its safe to say we got a LOT of ATI lovers. i was not biased toward ethier company till i read the record of Nivida and compared the two newest cards. the Nivida card does take twice the power, twice the space, and cost one hundred dollars more for its ULTRA version. its main saving grace is the 3.0 pixel shader which most games aren't even optimzed for yet so in terms of value the ATI card is my choice

ok the ATI card has more and far better performance in Direct X 9 and the NVidia has PS-3 so the advantage of either aspect is moot and more games will come out that will work with Direct X 9 than PS3 so..... you think about it and im very dissapointed that John Carmack flip flopped from the 9700 to nvidias 6800 he made a classic mistake in poker, showed his hand without a clue about the competition

Anonymous

at 15:53 10/5/2004

However, back in the real world, I'm going to have to see how retail X800pro / 6800GT boards & drivers compare. Judging from the benchies from different sites, they're aboot equal across the board performance-wise, with the X800pro taking the biggest lead in Far Cry. Interesting that xbitlabs tests on the HL2 beta put nVidia in the lead now though.

yea the 6800 features beats the x800 hands down there. it is important to look at your favorite games and upcoming titles, and decide which card will run better. nvidia's got the doom3, quake engine, and the powerful unreal engine. ati's got half-life, and maybe a couple others.

Keith

at 15:22 10/5/2004

I will be buying a 6800, although I do not know which version. Both the X800XT and the 6800U are a bit pricey. But if I were to choose between them, 6800U.
My reasons: Historically, Nvidia has been more stable and compatable for me. Drivers and hardware wise. Performance difference between X800XT and 6800U is a dead heat. If the X800XT significantly outperformed the 6800U, that would be a different story. PS3.0 compliant ( I believe when PS3.0 developed games come out, I will notice performance advantage over the R420 architecture in that same game, like I said, I believe. So its enough to sway me.) Mpeg encoding (Dont know if I'll ever use this, but its a cool feature nontheless.) Newer technology. From scratch architecture with young drivers. Only room for improvement. Image quality (Except for FarCry) is now either equal or slightly better that ATI (according to some review sites.) ATI has great IQ, but now NV has caught up and then some. I am judging this with my own eyes and screenshots comparing 5950, 9800XT, 6800U and X800XT. NV is in ATI's league with IQ now. I am sure there are other reasons but this post in getting long.

From Anon at 13:39 and 13:34

ATI is also doing the graphics processor for the new Xbox 2, which is a big deal, and everyone says all this stuff about nVidia Logo, oops wait a sec ATI is doing one for Xbox 2, and they are taking a different route to nVidia who lost out a lot of money as they paid a lot of money to build the processor for the original Xbox and then they had to take down the price, while ATI is taking royalties out of every console sold, which gives a bigger return on what they have spent as now the Xbox is selling more every month than the PS2 and the Xbox will be even bigger with the new one, so tell me whos winning now!

Anonymous

at 13:39 10/5/2004

Continued from Anon at 13:34

time to work on the card and not on trying to optimise it for games which dont really push the boundries.

As for the drivers, DAMN ati are doing better and better, they have set out a strategy to up date their drivers EVERY MONTH, while nVidia u dont have a clue when to get ur new driver, and if u read some hardware sites which did reviews and compare the 6800U with the X800XT-PE, nVidia gave them a new driver the 61.11 from the 60.8 or was it 60.72, it was still beta, just like the ATI (but ATI didnt have a new driver and they stuck with their original one) the new version of the driver was even worse than the older generation of cards and it gave huge anomalies also compared to the old generation of drivers, while the beta driver for the XT-PE powered on through

So as u can see nVidia are losing this battle very badly, using to many resources on things that are a waste, spending more time optimising rather than building the best GPU they can, marketing their product poorly, like bringing out a water cooled GPU which happens to be ($100-200 more expensive), and they said the Ultra was supposed to rival the XT-PE but now they have to bring out a amore expensive card ($100) just to beat a smaller more effienct card and probably by only a small fraction so really looking at it ATI do really have the upper hand in the "War" in the graphics market, and their market share is increasing and have even stated they are working towards a 50% market share, and believe me thats good as they are at 40% and their are Matrox and nVidia to contend with so having 50% will give them a dominance in the market...

Anonymous

at 13:34 10/5/2004

Ppl say that the 6800U supports ps3.0, so it does, the first game i have heard about that is using it is the Unreal 3 Engine, umm if u watched their video, i think they said it would be ready in like 2005, wait a minute, thats 9-12 months, ATI would have brought out its r480 AND r500 by then, also PCX would have been fully intergrated into mobos, oops one more thing nVidia have is a power hungry and bad performing BRIDGED PCX solution, and look, ATI have a NATIVE solution, which means its not so power hungry and performs better. Thats when PS3 will be out, and for the AGP side, the Radeons will have PS3 supported hardware in the GPUs, and thats when they will have built their new GPUs also, and i am lead to believe that it wont be much of a departure from the x800XT-PE as in it wont need that much power or produce so much heat or take up so much space.

Also for those guys talking about the nVidia logo, its all about marketing, the game PUBLISHERS, not game developers, they get funds from nVidia to support building games, the developers are only seen with nVidia so they can promote games and nVidia at the request of the PUBLISHER, game developers wont ever make games run better on certain graphics card, but with the agreement the graphics card company can look at their code and optimise THEIR card to run on that game better, BUT wait a second, just checked the Far Cry site, LOOK THE NVIDIA LOGO, but but but, it runs better on the ATI and has better image quality, which must mean their engineers have NO idea what they are doing.

In my thinking ATI wants to stay away on supporting too many games using their logo and stuff, so they dont have to pay out so much as they are a smaller company than nVidia, and they only wanna promote up-to-date games and ones which are secured a hit even before it sells, they are more wise to support the right publishers for specific games and not just a whole spectrum of them as it eats to much into their resources and they have more

I update the drivers when I notice new drivers are available, but I've never had driver problems with my 9700pro or my 9800pro at all.

Same goes for my GeForce ti 4200 that I've used off and on in a spare PC. The drivers are not that big an issue for either side.

"Nvidia accused of overoptimising again

Application optimization spotted in Far Cry

By Fuad Abazovic in Wien: Monday 10 May 2004, 11:17

WE WERE TOLD last week that Nvidia is again playing with some optimisation techniques.
According to chip.de, if, for example, you rename farcry.exe to fartcry.exe Nvidia's performance in 61.11 drivers will suffer a drop.

Nvidia commented on this anomaly but didn't leave our German colleagues with any reasonable explanations apart from one saying that if you rename the file you will remove Z culling. This is something of a lame explanation."

Nvidia is at it again. What a bunch of losers. Like they think they can pull this crap off now without people finding out? OEM'S must be happy about this. 2 1/2 years of cheating now Nvidia. Can yo go for 3? How pathetic and sad. And this was the game to showcase PS3.0 and the "WAY IT'S MEAN'T TO BE PLAYED"

Both games are not even out yet you idiot. And if things are the same as they are today, then Unreal 3 will run better on ATI cards as every Unreal game to date does right now. Unreal 2003. And Unreal 2004 especially. And for DOOM3? John Carmack jsut took out the ARB2 special rendered path for ATI cards. So all R3xx cards will run it faster and on par witrh the dismal line of FX cards when it comes out.

Do you actually believe that? Holy shit are you f**king a Nvidiot of class. Nvidia loves assholes like you. Blind alligience.
If Nvidia sold you a pile of shit besides their GPU's, would you say it's the best thing since sliced bread because Nvidia said so?
When the R420 came out i read all reviews on it. Everyone of them said the same thing, even Tom's Hardware that is a major supporter of Nvidia based products. That ATI's latest GPU's are faster and offer better AA and IQ then Nvidia's flagship. Even the PRO version is faster in some tests. And that it is smaller and requires less power. You Nvidiots need to get a life. Nvidia is still bullshitting the benchmarks. The only thing now is, all review websites are looking out for it. This is why they are getting busted now all the time. Go buy that 480W power supply for that 6800. Have fun taking up 2 slots. And in the end, it still is slower then ATI's card. And still offers inferior AA. Nvidia went with Rotated grid AA this time like ATI has been doing for the past 3 years but forgot gamma correction with it. And now ATI has added Temporal AA with gamma correction rotated gridd AA which cause very little to no loss in fps when it's enabled.
Until Nvidia can stop lying in the benchmarks and actually make a driver set that does not cause IQ loss in "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" Games, i might consider buying Nvidia. Of course if i have Pickering PowerPlant at my disposal for the power supply for their bulky cards...

Nvidia better than Ati? Hell yea!"

They sure do get money from Nvidia idiot. It's how the industry works. It's called advertising and it's not free. Both companies benefit, however it's not free marketing fool. And as for which cards perform better? Just look at every review site for the past 2 1/2 years. It's been ATI. Case in point? Nvidia is no longer 2nd to Intel in market share in the Graphics industry anymore. It's ATI. And that lead as analysts are expecting, will become greater with the release of the R420 chipset that will fit in ANY OEM PC box. Can't say that for the 6800Ultra.
And ATI games do not run smoother? Hmmmmmm. Tell that to the game makers of FarCry. Love those IQ issues on the 6800Ultra. Way it's meant to be played? Ya right. Even Unreal 2004 runs IQ anomilies on the FX cards and 6800Ultra. Great drivers Nvidia.
As for game companies chosing the best? Please tell us what the 5950 or 5900 has over the 9800XT and the 9800PRO. Or what the 6800 power sucking card that takes up 2 slots has over the XT800 besides the useless feature of MPEG4 encoding which is not working that great on the cards anyways. And PS3.0? LOLOL. Nvidia thinks we are all stupid telling us shit that renaming an .EXE file disables the Z implementation. What kind of bullshit is that! ATI doesn't f**k around like this which is why their products are the number one choice for gamers. The problem is Nvidia doesn't know how to make a card, so when their card is released and performs poorly they cheat, so f**k them!

TheInquirer.net

at 6:41 10/5/2004

"We were told last week that Nvidia is again playing with some optimisation techniques.

That's the dumbest, lamest, most pathethic comment in attempt to bring Nvidia down.
Looks like ATi didn't pay Chip.de enough to at least make a smarter comment. How do losers get on top? Money talks my friend...

Man, its gay when people start talking shit, on both sides.
I seen someone say that X800 beas 6800 in 99.9% of all games, "check the websites, check the benchmarks' he says. Whatever man, if you want to make an arguement try to be a bit more honest, i hate d**kheads like you.
Also back on track, it is likely that we will not see heaps of PS 3.0 games by the end of the year, there are like 9 which will be out in a matter of months, Battle for middle earth, etc...
But the good thing about this is, when the time comes at the end of the year, when they start flourishing out. To enjoy the greatness you will need to own Ati's most expensive high end card. And You wille able to won Nvidias High end card and its 6800 which by that time will probably be not highend anymore. Am i right? What you people who are not d**kheads, think>?

"THAT LOGO IS NOTHING MORE THEN MARKETING. Nvidia PAYS those games developers you moron"

If I'm the owner of the company, how stupid can I get if I recieved money from Nvidia just so they can put their logo in MY game. Game developers and companies use Nvidia to sell their games to make more money, not in reverse. What a bunch of Atidiots. Game companies chose the best so they can get more money. That makes sense. Nvidia better than Ati? Hell yea!

Samson is right. It is premature for PS3.0 to take effect. You might see 1 game that uses more PS3.0 effects instructions by the end of the year. And considering it is only a extension of PS2.0 like c++ is to c language, the differences will not be noticed until total ps3.0 support is schieved. And that is quite impossible at this time due to the developement time it takes for game companies to create game titles these days. 12-18 months minimum for games. For a game to be fully PS3.0 capable they would have had to make their titles way back in October the minimum. And how could they when Microsoft has not even released DX9.0C which supports PS3.0? PS3.0 specifications were only basic ground work back then. ATI did the smeart move. Less unessacary features so they can clock higher their card and use less heat.

Samson

at 5:40 10/5/2004

...continued...
Keep wishing that PS3.0 is going to be a major factor in 2004. It won't. PS1.4 when it came out never made a impact that year. T&L NEVER DID. 32FP NEVER DID. 128 BIT COLOR NEVER DID.
Funny how you Nvidiots do not mention how the 6800Ultra is going to cost more then the R420 and run slower and the fact that it also takes up 2 slots like the 5800Ultra and requires a 480W power supply.
You think that OEM'S are going to be happy with that? Extra pci slot. 480W power supply when ATI's offering only takes 1 slot and runs cooler, quieter, over-clocks hgiher and does not require a Nuclear power plant to run it? Good luck. And you cannot fit a 6800Ultra in just any ol' PC box. Form towers forget it. No problem with ATI's R420. Lan gaimg boxes are a snap.
$399.99 FOR THE 800PRO which in some cases beats the 6800Ultra in some tests and is on par in some others and loses only by small margins in the rest. The 6800Ultra is $499.99. The XT800 beats the 6800Ultra in almost every test. Only when FSAA is disable does the 2 slot beats from Nvidia win. And who in their right minds pays $499.99 to have a video card and NOT run games with FSAA and AA on? I assume only Nvidiots...
Got to love Nvidiots. Justify their cards. Nvidia came up short again.
DX9.0c won't be out until lateer this year so Nvidia is screwed that way. And games will not fully support it. So they are screwed again until 2005. By then, ALL CARDS WILL SUPPORT PS3.0 or greater.......

Samson

at 5:30 10/5/2004

THAT LOGO IS NOTHING MORE THEN MARKETING. Nvidia PAYS those games developers you moron to put their logo on those game boxes. Damn your stupid. Everyone of those games mentioned run better on ATI cards. FarCry? Gee, that's a PS3.0 game as they claim. And guess which card runs it better and with no issues and IQ loss? Hmm, could it be ATI? Unreal 2004? ATI again. "Way It's Meant To Be Played" is PR marketing.

"Their best game is Half-Life 2...."

What's Nvidia's best game? DOOM3? Oh wait. That's not out either. Dumbass. Name another game. Good luck.

"They prefer nVIDIA. Not because nVIDIA gave them money, because they want people to actaually like their games, less buggy, have the best support and so they can sell a lot of their games."

You must be 12 years old. Of course it's money you toad stool. Nvidia pays millions of dollars yearly to those companies to market their logos. Simple economics and marketing tactics. You think game companies let Nvidia put that logo on game boxes for free???? Stupid 12 year old. As for buggy. Pal yopu need to do some reading and playing. FarCry runs major issues on the 6800. Unreal 2004 runs issues on FX cards. They had to rlease a patch for it on Nvidia cards. Not ATI cards. And those games are "Way It's Mean't To Be Played"

"''---ya know what dude ?---looks like you don't know a sh*t!! Coz SM 3.0 is ALREADY supported by Far Cry. It will be supported by ''LOTR: Battle for Middle-Earth'', ''Splinter Cell X'',and MANY other games being released this year."

Just like FarCry? That game runs PS3.0. And the R420 runs it faster and without the IQ problems of the 6800Ultra. With better AA once again. All those games you mentioned will only support partial shader operation effects. They will be Hybrid games of PS1.4, PS2.0 and little PS3.0 just like FarCry. No game in 2004 will fully support PS3.0 all around. The only game that is going to support PS2.0 all around is HL2.
Keep wishing that PS3.0 is going to be a major fact

There can't be any PS 3.0 games until MS release DX9.0c, which they won't until 2Q 2005. Yeah it is funny that Nvidia's "The way it is meant to be played" games run better on ATI Radeons. See you stupid ass Nvidiot I don't care about seeing a name of a brand when I start up the game I just care about performance.

Anonymous

at 5:13 10/5/2004

Why do you see Nvidia logos in all those games, thats because ATI outperforms Nvidia all those "THE WAY IT IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED" games. Isn't that funny shit! Unreal series, Splinter Cell series, Doom 3, Painkiller, FarCry, Unreal 3, Call of Duty, LOTR: Battle of the Middle Earth, etc etc. All those games you mentioned ATI has better performance in all of them. It is just advertising, but it really pisses me off when I see that logo.

"Then why do you see Nvidia logo in games so much , smartass?"

The question should be, "Why do you see nVIDIA logo in many great games made by the biggest gaming companies so much?" Because it's better. nVIDIA has games like Unreal series, Splinter Cell series, Doom 3, Painkiller, FarCry, Unreal 3, Call of Duty, LOTR: Battle of the Middle Earth, etc etc. Unlike ATi who can only get crappy games. Most of ATi supported games didn't even get exclusive reviews on popular gaming sites. Their best game is Half-Life 2. Uh wait a minute, it doesen't exist! If ATi is overall better than nVIDIA, don't you think gaming companies prefer ATi over nVIDIA? But the fact is, no. They prefer nVIDIA. Not because nVIDIA gave them money, because they want people to actaually like their games, less buggy, have the best support and so they can sell a lot of their games. Why do game devs prefer nVIDIA? Why do real gamers prefer nVIDIA? Why do graphic enthusiast prefer nVIDIA? Beause it's better. Nuff said.

It will be supported by ''LOTR: Battle for Middle-Earth'', ''Splinter Cell X'',and MANY other games being released this year. I'm not throwing away useful good technologies to a few of those ATI FPS. Skrew ATI. I used for too long, and am frustrated by their quality/driver support.

Anonymous

Waht excuse? Nvidia has miscalculated once again. All those useless features that are great for 2005. Mpeg4 encoding? Holy shit, How useless is that for a gaming chip. And what makes it worse is the fact that they are having major issues with it right now and those shitty drivers. All those features just added to the size and heat of the chip. The very f**king reason Nvidia cannot clock the chip out of the box to 500+ without extreme cooling mehtods. What a joke. 2 power connectors...2 slots....and THIS IS A IMPROVEMENT over the abortion of a card called the 5800Ultra? Get f**king real people. The engineering department at Nvidia suck major ass. They did not learn the first time around with T&l...Then the 2nd time with 32bit FP and 128bit true color on the FX series. ALL USELESS FEATURES THAT WERE NEVER USED IN IT'S CURRENT GENERATION. And 128bit color still won't be used. And now PS3.0? Another shader feature not to be used this generation. It will bve PS2.0. If Nvidia has any luck maybe some hybrid games like FarCry(that run faster and problem free on ATI cards. Not so for the 6800Ultra.)
Nividia put all this effort into the 6800 only to get trumped again by ATI. LOOKS TO BE 3 YEARS RUNNING AND MORE MARKETSHARE LOSS FOR Nvidia...........

"But anyways, hopefully nvidia can gain on immage quality (as strange as that sounds) and will get a speed boost when more 3.0 titles come out"

Unfotunately City of Dis, those PS.3.0 titles won't be in full swing until 2005. By then, ATI and more then likely even Matrox(if they are still around) will have PS3.0 compliant cards. If Nvidia is lucky, there might be 2-3 games out that support PS3.0...FULLY. Not partial shader effects such as PS1.4, PS2.0 and a little PS3.0. For Nvidia's new generation cards to take back the lead decisively, games must be FULLY PS3.0 compliant. Which won't happen until 2005. If this happens, which more then likely it won't, then that insane power supply that is required for the 6800Ultra might be worth it.

Damm!!! :P

But anyways, hopefully nvidia can gain on immage quality (as strange as that sounds) and will get a speed boost when more 3.0 titles come out.

I see nvidia going the way of intel, extremly hot and power consumeing with mediocre performance. Not good.

Anonymous

Before you all start choosing you future graphic cards by two sets of numbers i highly reccomend you do some research into the individual scores in each section of the cards. If you take a check at these ati doesn't win in everything, thoughit does have the ace in the 9.0 directx, and the future games will be 9.0 rather than the older variety.

In saying that, if you look at the results of the non-extreme cards on similar systems, then Nvidia has the upper hand. So as always its gonna depend on your budget and your needs as to which you buy, that is if you rely on these figures on how to spend your cash.

all right all right. I concede the ati card ownz our nvidia card. Give it a rest. I only purchased the nvidia card because they support 3 glasses and ati doesnt. Otherwise i'd dump this card in a heart beat. Graphics are ok but they do look cheesy when u compare it to ati.. As i said give it a rest.. Even us nvidia guys know our card sucks. We've learned that for the last year or so.. sigh!

Bottom line ATI has been declared as the Graphic King again. Catalyst Driver Suite has won many awards. Radeons are better at high rez gaming. Nvidiots try to find pathetic reasons to bash ATI, however it is Nvidia that has lost and is shamed they hyped the NV40 will its PS 3.0 bullshit.

Come on grow up accept defeat!

im gonna sum this up quick i pretty much dont really got any problems the only problems i got is that i cant really use anti aliasing because it makes my games run slower but i dont really need it, its nice to have but its not a huge deal like everyone makes it out to be.

computers
=========
if you have a pentium 3 with a geforce 4 and a windows 98. and you have problems dont be suprised a lot of pc's out now are on XP and p4's so a lot of the companies are doing a lot of optomizing for XP and the newer stuff i aint saying its fair that the older stuff gets shit but thats just how things are it aint ati or nvidias fault its MS and Pentium and so on or its your ignorance of not knowing how to use a computer properly. i think both companies are great but so far from what i am seeing ati is doing a heck of a lot better in terms of preformance , for image quality i got no idea probably good too and their driver support is A LOT betterthan nvidia.

Nvidia releases a driver like every 4 months and ati releases them every month which shows they want to keep their customers , very smart in my opinion.

but the war ain over yet for all we know all that nvidia 6800 pro tests and specs could be a bluff and so could this report. we could see the nvidia beating ati up no problem we wont know until they are released so in the mean time al lthese flame wars on which is better is pointless , stupid , and very very chidlish.

Man a lot of you guys are real morons , im not taking any sides here i have a geforce ti4200 my games usually run fine and the drivers are fine imo.

Here's what i find funny , do you guys complainingabout problems even download the right drivers? wait is your computer filled with spyware and virus's and etc.

Its funny too beecause i keep my comp nice and clean i know what im downloading and etc. Nvidia and driver problems? I don't think so its pretty RARE i encounter a problem with my graphics card and if a game is choppy it doesnt neccissarily mean that its the cards problem maybe your running ap iece of shit celeron (celeron is a piece of crap cuz it has no cache)

or maybe you got like 128 mb ram when gamers like me go to 512+

or maybe your computer is so packed full of background programs from spyware or useless stuff that your cp is so over loaded. if its anything that pisses me off is moron whiners on each side saying the other sucks when its their computers that are messed up.

Maybe some are correct i dont know but i have a geforce 4 ti4200 with windows xp and my games run fine , the anti aliasing isnt great but thats because the card wasnt meant to be used that much for AA but AA isnt even that much of a big deal , if your a graphics freak and you want AA get an ati.

further more if you dont like ati because your an nvidia fan boy than you need to grow up i look at both sides and see goods and bads.

nvidia goods
============
-games run pretty fine , very RARE i encounter graphics problems , almost never pretty much

-good fps rates and i play my games at 1028x764 , what i dont understand is why you would want to play a game in any res higherthan that you wouldnt be able to read the f**king words for crying out loud!

Nothing, nothing more than that. just the other nubs can't take it, I seriously can't believe how stupid all you nvidia lovers whoi actually voiced your obviously stoopid comments made yourselves look. there is no competition, and unless nvidia can offer something amazing alongside their card now (say, a trip to the moon with paris hilton and a bottle of Zero-Grav certified baby oil) well, then they got no chance. its as simple as that, nuff said kthxdie

The damn thing is hella overclockable too!? Geez, I also heard that the Nvidia 6800 is overclockable too. With the 6800 one needs to buy a german-52 575-615 watt power supply, 12" dia. thermal magnet, and a big ass fire extinguisher. Don't forget to raise your feet!

Anonymous

at 17:27 8/5/2004

im the anon from 17:18 just wanna say that also means nVidia also, not just ATI who have the probs

I had an ATI, never had a problem
i have a ti4200 in my dads comp, it was the worst card at first, but the drivers did help but it still got lots of probs, i did all the testing i knew of and got it fixed as it was some of my software on the comp which was the prob, and i also cleaned the computer up so that every piece of software was in the right place and working at optimum perfomance

Tho i have to say that im gonna get the X800XT-PE and we have the Pro in stock and it easily outperforms in SOME applications compared to the 6800U, we have tested them on many systems, from low end systems to the highest of the high and have even tried overclocking everything, and it performs like the benchmarks say...

We are not buying many 6800U Extreme as they cost way to much and have not much of an increase in performance or quality and will produce much more heat and use more power and probably a bigger heatsink and fan! and louder too

I have to agree that ATI seem to be doing better and better all the time!

have mercy on nvidia you

at 17:21 8/5/2004

it's just a mather of time before nvidia cheat again with their drivers AND force lower image quality to get better performence. it's such a shame i'm not even mad at them...

nvidia are so deep in it

If anyone is having problems with drivers for any card its not the card or the driver, if a computer is fitted and tested properly it never has anything go wrong, i know this i own a custom computer company and have been making and selling and learning computers for the past 4 years, i know what im talking about

its not software its SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY, different kinds of software dont mix well so upgrading from one driver to another is not a good idea, u have to delete the old driver before putting the new one in, ATIs might not play games properly because lying in your computer are different pieces of software all working together and one can easily trip up another and cause everything to foul up, like ERIOX said

"mm i have 6 computers at home at the range from 1400-2700 mhz (amd)
3 ati (8500,9700,9800)and 3 nvidia (4200,4800,5900) and all computers have some probs time to time, like that one whit 4800 gfx,i hade bluescreen issuess but i turned of fastwrite in bios and voila perfekt.
my point is that!, "A COMPUTER IS NOT ONLY A DRIVER".
I gonna stuck whit ati i think,"

He had software compatibility problems by the BIOS was interfering with the GPU, also a common problem is that ppl get wrong, when they think its the card or the driver is that to many different hardware parts are connected to the the same IRQ, for XP go into ur start menu, choose my computer, right click it, go to manage, choose device manager, then go to the tab which says view, then choose resources by connection, and third down on the left window will say irq, then u can see if to many pieces of hardware are connected to ur graphics card IRQ, disable or delete them so that the card is the only one taking it up

Hope that helps

first off Ati has more advanced shaders than nvidia, therefore making the graphics in game way awesome, and when ati looses framerate in certain games it is still playeable, nvidia cards just get really choppy, i have tested these card for years in and out, and still ati always takes the win, nvidia is still second and thats is not bad at all, things may change in the future, but as a tester ati still leads.

ive never had any driver problems with my ati or nvidia cards, and also ANY drivers or video cards are eventually going to have issues and drivers , theres no way around it, human beings are perfect so what makes u think that human beings can make a perfect card, so since problems are inevitable the only real problem would be if the maker of the card didnt work to fix the bug, which i havent seen yet, theres nothing wrong with either ati or nvidia, it just seems that people come to megagames because they need something to argue about , what a pity that people have to read most of the useless negative garbage on this page anyways. oh well, i might as well add some of my belly aching into the bunch.

It's just one file.

Nvidia and ATI are both Good.
But to say ATI has huge driver issues is just plain false.

I made a living out of installing things on a PC too... i have a 9600Pro and have not 1 single problem and im a game whore...

Do you guys with problems still use a radeon 32meg for god sake

THERE IS NO f**kING PROBS WITH ATI DRIVERS... if you do, i think its about time you do a fresh install of Windows... install back all Microsoft patch... get the latest driver and voila

The prob is not the card damn you piss me

I have the same problem with ATI too. I'm not trying to flame but drivers are ATI's weaknesses. We all know that. And yes, I can properly install almost anything on a PC. Hell, I made a living out of it :-P

well most of us can't afford that system it was overclocked on, so what's the big deal? However I'm very pleased with the X800 series!!!

Ati performs much better than nVidia? Since when? nVidia has always performed better than Ati. Sometimes I do think that Ati is overrated. The bogus issues about nVidia cheated a couple of years back sure make Ati in the spotlight. But without overclocking both cards, nVidia is a much better card when it comes to performance even if it's a slight difference.

"this doesen't amaze me. they score a higher score last time too but once you play some games ati isn't as good as they promised. been an ati user for years and all those years i have to patch almost any new games in order to play them. the driver sucks, even until now. now i have a mid range nvidia but it never let me down. so if you use it for games (obviously), go for nvidia. ati isn't worth the hassle. seriously."

I dont think you can properly install drivers so RTFM

ATI has the upper hand this time. Not only because the power supply requirements are not ridicoulous, but because there cards perform much better than the 6800 counterparts. Even the X800PRO can beat the 6800 Ultra which is 100 dollars more.

only fanboys care about benchmarks and brags about it. pure gamers play what they chose and like to play with.

Ati and their drivers... Sighs, hopeless.

no problems found? you just didn't know it. 'oh, look i just got a critical error trying to play hitman. oh well, must be a random error, doh.' how stupid can you get? that's why ati is releasing fix patches and drivers often.

Wait til both cards are officialy out then post your fanboyism needs. Meanwhile, just enjoy seeing both childish companies fight each other and enjoy the card price decreasing by the minute.

Whoa, the bench people must have thick wallets after they "discussed" the bench issues with Ati.
Do you know how losers win? Money talks.

ok i really dont fu*king care, there is no point in arguing about a stupid lil thing that u put in ur comp to run games ok, its not like its gonna help u in life. wait until they come out, see whats best then buy it, thats if ur so stupid to blow $499 or £300 on one when something ALOT cheaper will run the games fine (unless ur rich :-D) and who cares if ati or nvidia wins, personally i like Nvidia best coz iv bought most of my cards from them but when im upgrading again and the ATI is better ill buy it ...... and here comes the lil nerds to piss every one off

Anonymous

for once I like to see both companies use non overclocked cards in the low price range instead of the $500 to $2000 monsters with liquid nitrogen coolers on them.
