Windows VS Linux... that used to matter like 5 years ago but now lets get real, pentium 4, amd 64 is here the difference in performance is nothing and when was the last time windows died on you?? Unless u are a fool that doesnt apply patches and doesnt use a firewall and opens any emails you will catch worms, but seriuosly my Windows XP is been working trouble free for over a 3 years. NO problems and if i had a problem nothing my ghost image wont fix, now if you dont knwo about computers what u doing with one>?

The vast majority of people who buy this will be doing so because they have a illegal copy of XP Pro they want to use, and dont want to have to pay for the bundled home edition. While I appreciate all that Linux is, and its great for servers, the desktop usage is still flawed.

Why am I using MS? 1. Games 2. Still no ATI Radeon 9600 3d acceleration even with mesa under XFree86 (guess this is ATI's fault, .....however) 3. No real "power user" driver for Sb LIVE! 5.1 Digital in this platform. Can't set the speakers, number of them, crossover freq for bass, EAX totally unsuported. Actually I think those 2 above are one reason: poor driver support by companies for Linux. And hell there are a lot of people using these babies I have.....Otherwise.. I don't remember Labview versions for Linux (anyone know of such this?). Last times I checked(about a year and a half ago) using K3b I managed to obtain poorer writing quality under RedHat than writing with Nero in Windows (random C2 spikes always at the same locations). Anyway these are the sign of a somewhat distributed development I think.

I do agree that MS should cut the prices of their OS. It's like $399.99 in Canadian.

Actually Microsoft OS developers are newbies, linux comes from Unix style coding they've been programming way b4 Ms started getting big. Which means even if linux was where MS is now there would be way less bashing cause the os runs smooth it doesn't f**kn give u runtime errors explorer lockups the facts are the facts there is a huge gap for improvment for microsoft. Microsoft is good for coming out wit things but they dont give a flying F about u me the customers, so security is never their first priority.. The only thing i have win for is games that's it wit linux there are many alternatives avail like open office, its gaining ground believe it or not its sepcially big in countires in Europe even where im from Albania, microsoft wake up & smell the coffe. Cuase if u don't ur going to loose the battle ...

Anonymous at 16:39 7/8/2004 you guys bash Windows like it's the devil. It's too bad how you guys think cause if Linux was the 99% most used OS, I'd expect the same amount of hackers etc as the current windows hackers and you'd be bashing linux. very tru but until that happens we will continue to bash windows :D

Suse is very good, probably the one company that has a chance to compete with microsoft's windows. But if hp wants these laptops to compete with the windows models, they need to drop the price alot more than 80 bucks.

Anonymous at 13:26 7/8/2004 its too bad that most, if not all games are made for windows, thats the only things keeping me from going to all linux. damn right, when they made Q3 for linux is ran twice as fast then the windows/MAC version and there are no viruses

About time. Have to give MS some competition. This way they will actually CARE about it's customers. Because of Linux, MS for the first time actually tries and gives users "good" customer service. And that's a first for Microsoft. Linux, give em hell. I love the open source format
