Got a 9800 pro in my pc and its been a real good card for last year coupled with my p4 @ 3.6 ghz,but ive just ordered a 6800 GT a few days ago to replace it cos at 243 notes i just couldnt resist it at that price. The XT 850xt pe is just too damn expensive and in some tests it just beats the GT in others it lags behind...simple as that!

x850 xt pe is the best card out there not even two Nvidia SLI cards can out perform the xt pe this card is awesome. what if there were two x850xt pe working together its gonna blow away nvidia to the point that they will stop making cards!!!!!!

Okay Sam. There is no need to interpret what I said as saying that ATI drivers are crap. I personally have never had one problem with nvidia drivers. That is why I stick with nvidia. If it ain't broke, why fix it? When I start crashing in games, then I will worry about it; but right now, my 6600GT AGP and the nvidia drivers are stable (even with beta drivers).

"have never owned an ATI card because I am wary of all the compatibility problems people tell me about [people I know] and I actually really like their drivers."Oh god. That driver issue is a dead one. The Catalyst drivers are actually more stable then Forceware drivers. Try running games especially in SLI mode that do not support it with current Forceware drivers and see the issues......Driver stability is the one area where ATI has improved 100% on. So much so that with every monthly driver update, they just get better. Nvidia needs to follow suit. (How the tables have turned with that statement) Nvidia only releases drivers once every 4-5 months. Not acceptable. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE RUNNING OR PLAN TO RUN A SLI SETUP!!!!! For SLI to work with various games, EACH game MUST have a specific profile in those given drivers for it to reconize it in a SLI setup. If not, the game will run just on the one GPU. That means, EVERY SINGLE NEW GAME THAT COMES OUT, NVIDIA MUST RELEASE A NEW DRIVER WITH THAT PROFILE FOR THAT GAME OR GAMES! A PATCH WILL NOT CUT IT. At press time, only 15-16 games can run in a SLI setup. Including the various bullshit Benchmarks. So you just might see Nvidia releasing monthly drivers like ATI to fuel the SLI setup. If not, you SLI owners have wasted $1000+ on 2 GPU's and a motherboard.....

Well, I have reached the conclusion that nvidia completely lied about its directX 9.0 support [fx series]. It was lacking to say the least. Nvidia should never be allowed to put the FX series behind them. It should drive them forward to make sure it does not happen again. A value card after the 4200ti you say? Try the 6600GT; its a spectacular card for the price. I have never owned an ATI card because I am wary of all the compatibility problems people tell me about [people I know] and I actually really like their drivers. I can not believe that either ATI or Nvidia actually have fans. They are not a local sports team you can cheer on. They are out to get your cash. Its a dog eat dog world out there in the GPU business and neither ATI, nor Nvidia are about to lay down and die. I am sure everyone loves their card when it is working well and hates it when it is not. The brand of the card is blamed, of course. We are fickle and these companies know that. Nvidia lied and so did ATI. None of them are innocent. Intel is the least innocent of all as their integrated solutions are built for joe sixpack who buys a dell and things they are going to play Doom III on it. Good luck to Joe Sixpack. Anyone who has used intel integrated graphics can probably recall their horrible gaming performance. In the mean time, kick back, buy yourself a bang for bucks card and watch the show as these companies dance all over each other. Remember, consumers, you have control! Your money has the power!

Though the last video card that was "best bang for your buck" was GeForce4200ti, that was almost 3 years ago. That means, the next "best bang for your buck" video card will be in 3 years from now. -This makes very little sense, but still preferable to most of the fanboy bs I see here

"And yeah, ATI doesnt really have any good mobile chips except the 1 that came out recently."You must be a Nvidia fanboy. Do research. Simply put, ATI has dominated the mobile chipset market for power and power consumption for years. They control most marketshare next to intel in the mobile market. The only mobile chip Nvidia has released that was decent competion to ATI chips, was the recent release of the 6800GO mobile chip. That chip is faster then the 9800 mobile chip from ati. However that chip was LAST years model. ATI released the X800 mobile chip and that is the fastest mobile chip solution out. Period. And to add insult to injury, the chip uses less power then the 6800go chip. Reason? ATI designs their mobile chips seperatly from the ground up seperately from it's desktop chips. Nvidia does not. They use the desktop design macarhictecture and in doing so, power consumption is always higher then ATI's mobile chips.

"The direct competitor to the 6800, the x800 is laughable." Actually not anymore. Thats the XL800. And that card has a full 16 piplines for $100 less then the 6800GT. And it's faster. As for the guy whow said most games look better on Nvidia hardware...Please tell us what game. The only game is DOOM3. That's it. All the other games look and run the same. The only time is when Nvidia uses a SLI setup with twin 6800GT's or Ultra's does it out perform the XT800 or XT850 in SELECT GAMES THAT Nvidia drivers reconsize for SLI setup. When it does not...the SLI setup runs like one card and sometimes slower. Only 15 games support SLI. And half of those are BENCHMARKS!!!!!

If I were to buy a graphics card, as of now, it would be a 6800. I would then mod it to a 6800GT, and I would have spent a grand total of only 180 dollars. The direct competitor to the 6800, the x800 is laughable. And the competitor to the 6800gt, is also loosing in the benchmarks. There is in no way ATI is "ruling" as of now. They were good last year, but this year they are in no way better then nvidia.

The only reason why Nvidia is ruling the market at the moment is because of there "the way its meant to be played" campaign. The reason why they achieved this is cause they had loads of money made in previous leads to spend on marketing and all the dumb ppl c nvidia on the back of most games and guess what happens. ATI still has the best graphics and will 4 quite some time.

6800GT and 6600GT are awesome and consumers know that. "Best bang for your buck." If ATI and Nvidia keeps coming up with super fast card and easy on the wallet, both companies will be very rich. Though the last video card that was "best bang for your buck" was GeForce4200ti, that was almost 3 years ago. That means, the next "best bang for your buck" video card will be in 3 years from now.

nVidia got no problems. They delivered things right on schedule . Microsft said that the SM 4.0 would be with longhorn, moreover nVidia is enjoying its partnership with SOny and like GF3 they may come up with something new again (may be something capable of R A Y T R A C I N G 'ooooooo'). BTW Ati did give something better then SM3.0 (SM2.0b with the quality of SM3.0 and speed of faster SM2.0) but Microsoft did not let them pass through.

Good competition. And just thonk. Prior to 2002, everyone would have never thought ATI would lead the GPU market in both Desktop and Notebook combined. Interesting point. The 5700 and the 5200 are the reasons Nvidia is leading the dx9 numbers. Good for Nvidia to make a strong comeback with the 6800 series. The NV30 was a failure. Can Nvidia counter the R520 in time? Hmmmm.
