you know kliker, one thing i always heard about is how easy it is to "breed" bacteria. So, while they'll be dying, labs will be able to reproduce the same amount, thus no big f**king deal. I mean, seriously, i don't think even those guys would be stupid to the point of going after a bacteria without even knowing how many of it they could mass produce

OK, this is madness, im holding a degree in microbiology and for sure i know that a lot of bacteriophages from a leaking battery would use the all abundant bacteria to grow themselves and then infect more bacteria, so, U kill a bunch of bacteria... big deal? life on earth depends on bacteria, more than in plants and animals together... its not a problem if the numbers are small, but on this scale, a battery like this, would need astounishing quantities of organisms... so it can do harm to the environment... computer enginers are treading on fields they "may" not know about... hope that they get some biology experts working with them and not making stupid errors...PS: sorry 4 my bad english

Talk about incredibly old news, the paper you describe is from an April 2006 edition of Science. Over 3 years old!

Anonymous @ 15:7.Hi I'm a new poster. This has nothing to do with standard batteries. Obviously you need to do some research yourself, on what creates super resistant bacteria and viruses in hospitals. Also how bacteria borrow from each other RNA structure in an open environment, inheriting each others characteristics. Take your own advice, and do research before belittling other posters.

A bunch of bacteria would die. Seriously do some research before posting, bacteriophages mutating to infect humans or any kind of animal/plant is ridiculous at best, also go and read about what happens when a standard battery leaks.

They say it's harmless to humans, but bacteria and viruses have a very high mutation rates. So lets say you had a battery leak.. Who knows what would happen with one of these things.
