now the worst part is the RIAA and the MPAA are trying to lobby for electronics manufactureers to delibrately cripple their devices so these organisation's products wont be copyable. WTF, the 80 year old dipshit in congress who is drafting this proposal obvously believes that the government should control not only what we do with our money, but after we spend our leftovers, how we use and create the products we are trying to sell or buy. Did martial law get instated last night when i was asleep. This could be the last straw. If this goes through i firmly believe that we should no longer declare this country a democratic republic. It should be known as a communist republic, where parties choose who we get to choose for office and since they are all a part of the same political organization it matters very little who we choose. Also where the mannner of our individual lives is dictated by political representatives who are swayed not by what is right and good for the whole but for individual members of there own class(usually wealthy). After the flood of lobbying these representatives can no longer be called "OUR" representitives, they represent indiviual adjendas. I dont mean to make a mountain out of a mole hill but descions like these, made by men like them have been going unchecked now for more than 70 years. It seems that everytime they open their collective mouths "we the people" give up several threads of the cloak of rights that we have rapped ourselves in ever since WE founded this country. Slowly that cloak has been unraveling from all sides at the same time, for if it was only one side we could see and feel the pull of injustice but since its all sides we hardly notice it growing smaller. BTW, im also sick of those who lead us using political rethoric like that above to AWE us into joining thier cause. EVIL DO'ERs BEWARE!!

haha,i need one cd copy rite now

wil

at 9:27 30/4/2002

LOL, this is going to do nothing to stop mp3s. One person with the cd and a felt tip rips it, then everyone downloads it off them. But why is that such a bad thing. I admit i download alot of mp3s off the net but if i get a track i really like i will go out and get the cd. Just like listening to a song on the radio.

They should do what they do over in japan (this is based on what a friend told me i may be wrong) where you hire out a cd and burn a copy of it and if you want the proper cover and stuff you pay alot more for it.

And as for the price they charge for cds over here (Australia) they are a bit over the top(about $30 for a album). I can understand the prices on games because they cost alot to create and there is a great risk that it will flop. but with audio cds the price is way to expensive, maybe if the artists saw more of the money it wouldnt be so bad but the fact is they dont.

The piracy problem that sony is having has to be delt with in a different way it is imposible they have to find out away of dealing with it. Copy protection is not the way it has never worked and it never will (and in no time there will probably be cdrom/dvd drives that will be able to read these cds anway)

Rufus

at 17:48 29/4/2002

one could state also that these copy protections can be a virus of some sort as they crash some computers. Sony should come to terms with the fact that the harder tehy try the more money they lose; they can only fight progress for so long. If you had the choice of a large mp3 player or a cd-player, which would u choose? mp3s are the future, as the yare more effecient that cds, deal with it sony.

Monkeyjaw

at 10:38 29/4/2002

Funny stuff.

The sooner these companies realise that they can't control the consumer, the sooner they can start thinking about how better to serve them. Only it's not about serving consumers so much as exploiting them for as much as they can get away with.

PrOxImUs

at 10:46 28/4/2002

Ha! I feel absolutely nothing for these companies. You could never buy another CD from them again and they would still live in utter luxury for the rest of their lives. Mp3s are not wrecking the music industry, these greedy companies are. I feel nothing about them being ripped off - they've been ripping other people off for DECADES and I think turnabout is fair play! I seriously hope this little stunt struck a major blow with Sony - not their music, but their reputation, and I really hope they lose a lot here and learn a big lesson. If this keeps up, eventually music will be completely free and available anywhere. Look at the free music sites, like www.mp3.com, which hostes *MILLIONS* of FREE, 100% legal songs to download. Sooner or later people are gonna realise that they don't need to go and blow huge sums of money for a few songs from greedy companies when they go and download millions of tracks for free, with no hassles. DUH!

Icemann

at 22:17 26/4/2002

I agree. Screw Sony ! :) ahahaha

Car makers try and make better and better alarms to
try and stop people boosting cars, but it still happens.

I for one, support piracy and crackers, not because it is rebellious or easy,
but because software / music is just SO expensive. If they actually brought the
price down, instead of trying to fill their own corporate pockets, I'd buy it
But until then, screw the establishment ! :)

The more and more that they try and upgrade piracy protection, the more people will
want to try and crack it. It is like a challenge, and a paradoxical dance between
the two sides to try and outsmart each other.

So far, the crackers are the stronger, because whatever it is, it always manages to get hacked. :)

What a waste of cash Sony. How many government hospitals would that fund ?! :) How many cancer operations ? How many
starving children have you just killed in the name of corporate greed. If you gave money away to
good causes, I'd be willing to pay the high price, but not when corporations line their own pockets. This is like
the French revolution, where the aristocrats led affluent lifestyles, whereas the other people languished in absolute poverty.

You know what happened there too, don't you ? They got overthrown because people were so mad at them.

Maybe you will learn. :) Do not throw good money after bad and accept that people will boost
CD's because they are too expensive.

Hell even if they could figure it out, we could always just put the CD in a normal CD player and hook up the output to the input of the soundcard to record it.

Sony have tried countless things to counter-act Piracy if they made all their products cheaper then there would be no need for piracy. Its because these big companies have realised that the average person has access to technology to make there own CDs they try to blame the individual for the wrong doing. So come on SOny and the other Big companies out there give US the consumer a BETTER deal by Making AUDIO AND GAMES cheaper and you will Stamp out piracy................???????

kza

at 0:39 24/4/2002

heh, it's pathitic to try to make CDs copy-proof, because if there is one company making it copy-proof, there will be millions of hackers/crackers/peoplle breaking it therefore making it impossible to do anything to us, in the end, we, the people, wins

thisisscary

at 19:32 23/4/2002

ROFLMAO
Beyond being the single most absurd oversight of any 1 company, does anyone relise that between this Key2Audio copy protection and the DMCA it effectivly renders all felttip markers and scotch tape illegal. This case really puts both of them in the corner with a dunce cap on.

Contradiction Sony

at 16:6 23/4/2002

Sony contradicts themselves...

Why make a CD that you can't play in your computer, but buy an mp3 player, that requires you have a computer to hook up to?

So, you buy a sony copy protected CD, and you can't play the CD on your computer, so you can put the mp3's on the NEW Sony Mp3 player you just bought, which weighs, and is way smaller, and better than a CD player.

So, why make these nice mp3 players, and then go off and try to make it so nobody can even make mp3's with these new CD's, even if they did buy the CD?

So Sony, next time, think about something outside of the box. Don't lie about the fact that making the CD protection cost so much money. Thats not true, it does not cost much money to just simply make random data on the first layer of the CD.

I myself have 8 GIGs of music on my computer, and lots of applications too. But, I am not making money off of these applications, but I am learning them so that one day, I will be able to get a job and maybe work for a company like you. If I didn't have these applications, then I wouldn't be able to learn them, and think about working in the computer field for the rest of my life. So if you want to make it so that kids like me can't learn applications, so that later in life they can better accelarate the computer industry, go for it, your just hurting the computer industry, and how fast the business is going to grow.

You make enough money off of what schools buy, and what people buy off of your CD players that break, and your cool looking computers. Don't try and take away applications, and music...and whine about money you lost while doing it. Nobody asked you to do it. It was just a ploy so that you could hopefully make money off of recording artists that wanted their music safe once on CD...and you've failed.

playstation cd's

Bbrother

at 8:56 23/4/2002

It's no surprise that copy protection has been shown to be inferior. Back when home taping to cassette was the 'fear of the day' they tried the same thing, and lost millions then too...will the companies ever learn to embrace their most precious resource.....the consumer!?

When you think of what it costs to make a cd(15cents) or some crazy low figure, and how much of a price they actually put on music, its no wonder people crack it.
Why pay 20 bucks for something that costs 15 cents to make. especially sence there is only 1 or 2 songs that you like anyway.
To hell with sony.. greedy f**kin japs.

I for one will surely be boycotting sony. There are two places I listen to music: My car, and on my computer. And if i cant use it on my computer then f**k sony... f**k them in there stupid asses!

NeghVar

at 18:28 21/4/2002

investing in anti-piracy is pointless!!! Its a waste of money because it will be cracked no matter what and then they'll be back to square-one. I already knew of a way to by-pass that CD-protection. Put it in a player that can read it. plug it in to your line-in jack and record. Thats how it was done before rippers came out.

Augusto Santos

Ah, so what. Everyone is rushing to develop anti-piracy measures. A short while ago a bill was defeated in the US senate that would have made it mandatory to put 'anti-piracy' chips in all removable media devices (CD-ROMS, ZIP DRIVES etc.). The bill was defeated because the chips for a variety of reasons, one of which was massive compatibility issues. The bill was fully supported by major companies such as Microsoft, Intel, Compaq, etc.

Every company wants to prevent their product from being pirated. Sometimes they have to take drastic measures to ensure this. It is not out of greed, but more out of necessity that these measures are enacted.

I say hats off to Sony for trying, although it is futile; anything they can make, we can unmake!

Sony Suckers

at 12:52 21/4/2002

Well, what can i say. This maybe; why devise copy protection for audio CDs... to make more people buy them right? of course that's why. So how come they make them unreadable on PCs and some players !!??!! I mean surely that's going to make LESS people buy the CDs. What do you think? The mind boggles at how incompetent these people are and at how much out of the way they go simply for one silly little problem like piracy. I have the ultimate solution to piracy, lower the prices in Europe to a standard similar to in the States. Ah well, nobody will listen to me anyway so i'll go now.

Tagge

at 12:20 21/4/2002

Sony, a shining example of 'greed' over all else. They didn't care that some Car Sterios, CD Players, and all PCs wouldn't be able to play this type of CD and the recording industry was just interested in preventing the 'mp3' pheonomina. For every problem their is a solution, this only proves that fact further. Another failed attempt by a failure of a company.

Why does it take something like this for people to see the 'true colors' of a company like Sony? Oh well, I won't complain atleast it's clear now.

Why do companies do things like this? Since when has the consumer become an after thought? Compatability should the first and foremost on the minds of any initiaive like this. But, Sony and the RIAA just said 'so what' and pushed on, serves them right. Hopefully this will take a big chunk out've the deep pockets of these rich bastards.

f**king n****rs

at 17:3 20/4/2002

LOL, take that SONY, you greedy ass motherf**kers. Your f**king products suck. The only good thing you did was lower the price of PS2, but no, your greedy asses wants more money to spill in your billion dollar budget, unless you want to use it to kill every n****r and put them back in slavery, then I would understand.
