I've heard this as well, Apparrantly Christian Bale auditioned for the role of Gordon Freeman but it was decided that he would be much better as the G Man. Also the G man is set to have a more integral role in the story.

I think that a halflife movie would be sic as. MAKE ONE!!! i will go to see it for sure , just as a whole lot of others would do. but as i read further down. But I agree, Half-Life: the Movie should be an action-packed, incredible story-driven type movie with many horror parts, such as headcrabs just popping the f**k out of vents at the quietest times, and all hell just breaking loose in Black Mesa (comment field just f**ked up, space-bar running non-stop, text appearing everywhere, on new lines, not all the way to the end, etc. - f**king horrible megagames HTML'ers) , headcrabs taking over Freeman's former friends, huge aliens battles, crazy deaths (including scientists, army, etc.) I agree with Hello Bob about the computer-animated movie, that'd be f**king sweet, but if they have graphics artists as good as Starship Troopers or Jurassic Park on the movie, I'd prefer real life then. Man I hope they don't f**k this up like every other game 2 movie out there, f**k i'm tired of f**king sappy half-assed game movies, it's turning out now they spend more time on f**king games than they do on movies, hollywood has lost its urge to aim for quality, they go for speed and "what sells" now, which obviously isn't a good movie anymore. Up to now the closest thing to a Half-Life movie I have seen is The Arrival. If you haven't seen that movie you should, I bet most of you will get a kick out of it because Charlie Sheen looks exactly like Freeman in the movie. The subject int he movies is almost the same as in the game as well.

So I played through the entire nite with an erection, pulled a few keys off the keyboard after I was done playing... keyboard got a little too sticky. But it was FAAAANTASTIC!!! So anyways, that's my legacy of my entire Half-Life saga, I completely loved it long before anyone else even knew about it, and in my opinion the mods f**ked it up, sure CS is f**king fun, but the hype just f**ks around with it, so many ppl think half-life sucks normally and shit, and they think the original game was nothing without CS; well I've got something to say to them: go find a bridge, tie a piece of rope to the rail at the top, then tie a fat piece of rop around your raisin-balls and jump backwards.

My Gawd... i am so happy! 1 year before Half-Life was released, I saw it in a PC-Gamer, and I thought to myself "this is nice, this game looks so cool". From that instant, my love for Half-Life grew. I began cutting out every article I could find of it, Magazines, Newspapers, and even made an entire CD full of pictures, movies, video clips, and commentary from the development team, I was a Half-Life maniac. Unfortunately, starting February 1998, and continuing EVERY TWO WEEKS until November 21st/1998, I got a ride to the COMPUCENTER inside of the mall half-way through the city, hoping for Half-Life to be on the shelves... sadly this was so very frequently no so. Every time I'd return to the store they'd always give me the gut wrenching news, only to say "we don't know when it'll be here, but you can keep trying." So I did, until a release date was finally given... *September 21st* (or something, f**k I don't remember). Anyways, I went to the store, wallet crammed with the money I'd saved up for this greatest game ever... and MOTHER f**kING c**kS ASSES BALLS, it was postponed until NOVf**kINGEMER 21st. Those asses!! I ran home and crossed out Half-Life on my games-to-get list, crying while I did it, then I started to touch myself, and I decided to masturbate that nite. 72 masturbations later, it was November. The pre-release that I had ordered from Computer-Smart (go to hell) was supposed to be in with a phone call... so I got a phone call late one nite... it was my f**king friend Justin who told me he was in the middle of installing Half-Life on his brand spanking new computer... that MOOOOTHER f**kER! IMO Starcraft should've always made a movie out of their computer animation clipscene animations, that looked sweet, and it woulda kicked ass too; either starcraft or diablo II. Anywhoos, movie must kick ass, if this sucks I'll be very pissed off. They've gotta come up with a very devent storyline, hopefully not written by the dumbass who wrote HL-one, and I think it'll be cool. Definately not xXx style, that movie was f**king stupid - too much impossible shit performed, i f**kING HATE movies where they do shit that you can't even do in real life - well not by a long shot. I mean stuff that's a "little" out of bounds is alright, as long as you can prove it and back it up, with a little logic, statement, and whatever else is needed. Men in Black ONE was awesome because everything was humourous and in a good way, it wasn't way too out of bounds, and all had a somewhat "truth" to it, enough to be believable. Not like Men in Black 2 where they started the f**king Rethingulator with a f**king lawnmower pull cord, i mean... WHAT THE f**k WAS THAT?! Were they TRYING to make the movie f**king stupid, or what?! First of all, it wasn't funny at all it was just stupid, obviously a machine that high tech isn't going to start with a mother f**king lawnmower pull cord, and second of all they gotta think about their shit before they just throw it into the movie, I mean some stuff in that movie just plain wasn't funny, or good at all. Half-Life will be an awesome movie I think, perhaps a little Blade II style will help, Crystal Method playing for some insane alien-gordon shoot out scenes, then just all around f**king insane fights with aliens, plus marines all around too, it'll just be a f**king warzone. Then we'll get to see some crazy ass high-tech weaponry, and getting passed that tentacle will just be f**king tense, and full of suspense. I'm so very much looking forward to this movie, but this time... I'll just wait at home =P.

HL was a great game because of the way the plot went with the story. The way the gameplay interacted with surroundings. the randomness of haveing to go into air vents and then jump from box to box in the air. they used everything. and made it a great game. and MP it was alot better cause it was more realistic than quake. wow lets run around and shoot each other with an automatic rocked launcher!! WTF?? wheres the fun in that. but the big thing HL had that you can't even dis or make fun of is the MOD community. for a game thats what?? 4 years old. and i has a MOD Expo every year still?? i think it made the whole user made mod sceen just slam the door open. thats what made it great.

I think this can be simplified... Pretty much ANY idea could be made into a GREAT movie no matter how bad it is. If they make the movie well it can be as good as anything. Half-Life does have a bit of story going for it but not a lot. But that really doesn't matter in Hollywood. Look at all the movies that have been made that did well, but had really dumb ideas behind them. The point is that HL has every possibility to be good if it is done properly. It's impossible to determine the likelihood of that at this point...
As far as other game-to-film movies... It's certainly true they haven't done great... But it could definitely be worse. Films based on games have increased exponentially in quality (think Super Mario vs Resident Evil) so it'll only get better. HL The Movie could establish a new plateau in the world of movies.

I think its a great idea, but as is the par for the course, hollywood film producers ruin every good game/movie or comic/movie there is look at judge dredd for example. Valva should have final say in the film, and if need be fron the money to make it themselves that way there is no deviating from a storyline that is ready to be made into a movie without little interference. Scientist turns up for work, large accident, invasion by aliens, military come to kill everyone, then scientist transports to alien world, kills head alien and is offered a job by a sinister goverement agent, which leads nicely into half life 2.
please please please dont let hollywood ruin this games image by making a second rate cross over, if u need anymore proof, just watch street fighter!

God damn it, I have so much respect for Sierra/Valve and now they've gone and done something like this. I'm sure they did it just for the money, but still! I'm a Half-Life fan but no matter what, it will never translate to a movie, ever! It could possibly be worse than Resident Evil, if that's possible. This is a disgrace to movies and Sierra should be ashamed, they probably are. I'm still excited about HL2 though.

They should get Charlie Sheen to play freeman. He looked just right, in the movie The Arrival.
Incase anyone doesn't know the gaming industry has more yearly gross earnings than the boxoffice does. So the game industry is the real big dog. Oh yeah i hope they do halflife justice.

Nope I dont like this idea, I think it will turn out shit. There are many many ways of looking at Half-Life, with a movie it will only explore one way. I hope there isnt a movie for Half-Life. BUT I wouldnt mind a movie based off Half-Life, like in the same settings and stuff. But if there is a movie I dam well hope they dont call it "Half-Life" because... that would just be crap.

I've always wanted a Half-Life movie, when i first got the game and as i finished it for the first time i thought "this game would be awsome if it was turned into a movie" I say go for it!
