They definately need to alternate main characters between covenant and the human like in halo 2 gameplay. The covenant were too much of a mystery to us as an audience during the first game. Hopefully they won't do the same for the movie. I think it would somewhat take away from the amazing experience to make it a CG movie. If it's filmed for real, you get a sense that this was real. You believe that you're watching something that's happening now. It's just too valuable an asset to discard. I agree with some of you, but others just seem WAY off. Have any of you read the books? Well, obviously some of you have, but still. Personally, the movie(s) should be based mostly on the books as they're absolutely amazing storylines and the only real reason that I got into the game in the first place. If you're going to convert a game into a movie, it should be emphasizing the awesome storyline, which is what the books do. I think it'd be cool if it were CG, but I'll live if it isn't. Master Chief is an amazing character and finding someone to play him must be the most difficult of tasks, but I do hope they find someone who truly captures the brilliance of his character, as well as the others. Some of those suggestions are decent enough, but others are ridiculous. I've read all the other inputs as to who should play the MC and hands-down, if you want a blockbuster, Vin should play the MC. Someone also gave props to Harrison Ford as Keys, another plus for the blockbuster rating. Or even better, get any buffed actor to play the MC and do voice overs with the guy who does the voice in the game, keeping it real; kinda like Ridd**k in reverse. Obviously the story is a good one, and with a director like Ridley Scott the movie has huge potential. There are so many Halo fanatics and devotees that there is no way that the movie wouldn't make huge money. And don't put Ben Afflac in as MC cause the s**t's gonna hit the fan if you do. I'm not too well-versed on directors and their styles, but Aliens was a gut-wrenching movie that had my blood pumping. Ed Harris would definitely make the best captain Keyes..no doubt about it! I'm not so sure about Samuel L. Jackson. He has the ferocity to be Seargant Johnson and he can be pretty damn funny, but I think Louis Gossett Jr. (Iron Eagle II) would be better suited. He has the face and most definitely those leather lungs of a Marine Drill Instructor--He has that throaty, tough as nails voice of Seargant Johnson. Sam doesn't have that. Even though I don't think they'll reveal a face for the Master Chief, I think Vin Deisel would make the best Chief. He's got the build and the perfect voice for the job. Cortana? That's a tuffy. I guess just have the hologram in the movie. I'm sure if Bungie could make those special effects, than big budgets can do the same and keep the same voice actress for her and make it happen. I think this will be so kick-@$$ if they stick to the books. IMHO, I think you could easily have enough material in just half of the first book to make a solid 2-hour movie. A lot of opposers to this movie think it will be just like the game--no plot, just shoot 'em up, yee-haw action--WRONG. If you read the books you will understand that this movie has so much plot untapped by the games, you could EASILY make a series out of the novels. I hope they get the job done right and I hope my message does not go unheeded. Let us look at the short list of games made into movies: Mortal Kombat(guilty pleasure I must admit) but from a film standpoint, it sucked. Street Fighter? I've taken more entertaining dumps. Mario Brothers? I didn't eat Italian for a month after I saw that. And Resident Evil? Not too bad, but it ran away from the game. A film based on Halo is a good idea; which is what the gamer side of me says. But the film production student in me says no. Would I love to see it made? Of course i would! But it can't be another Starship Troopers - a good idea torn to shreds by those who don't know what a good film is. We shouldn't get hung up on one director - Ridley Scott. Afterall, Kingdom of Heaven wasn't that great, and Alien was almost filmed 30 years ago. Something has been lost on their new films compared to the old ones. I think we need to look to a production company like Dreamworks. There is just too much story covered to cram it all into a 2-hour film, 3 if they've got balls; or they could just have a different plot. Anyways, they should do it like the Lord of the Rings (assuming they stick to the original plot): Start out with a ten-minute prologue to introduce the background details (like how, where, when, and why the Spartans were created while focusing on the Master Chief), thus jump starting the movie's plot. The actual movie should begin with the Battle of Reach (and the subsequent Fall of Reach), which would throw us right into the action. The producers should then carry out the plot accordingly, hopefully adding an exciting twist or two. I also have a few “suggestions” of my own (like it matters). Number One: Do not make this movie CGI. I mean, geez, just hand the rights to Pixar and let Tim Allen do the voice for Master Chief. Number Two: Do not add any romance. The game/books have none, as the movie should not. Number Three: Do try to use as many voices from the game because they were a big reason for Halo’s overall success. However, the voice of South Park’s Chef could work for Sergeant Johnson, and Ed Harris would be the best Captain Keys, period. He is not a huge name actor, but well known enough to fit the role perfectly (and he looks the part). To me if all the movie is "Special Effects" then there really aren't any Special Effects. Also if they use less special effects, CGI, ect. then it has more believability. For the aliens I agree they should use specialized costumes and save CGI for the impossible/uber expensive backdrops and vehicles (i.e. Banshee, Covenant ships and possibly Ghost). My personal opinion is to make it live action, try and use real landscapes, build warthogs etc, only use cgi where it may be impossible i.e banshees, ghost ships, space scenes. Use people in custom made suits for the grunts and brutes, it would be appreciated so much more. Dont add pathetic humour like T3, Blade 3 etc keep it serious and believable. Dont do a score like Resident Evil with hardhouse tracks or rock music keep the soundtrack faithfull to the games with a live orchestra with loud and powerful instruments. I can't get off halo2 on xbox live and its an everyday experience for me...I think that Ed Harris would play a good Captain Keyes and Samuel L Jackson would be perfect for Johnson...But I think that the movies should become a Saga of 4 films...The first one should be about The fall of Reach, those of you who might not know there are official books about Halo. 1 before the game. 1 of the game. and 1 right after the first game ends and before the 2nd game begins...So that way we get the whole Masterchief story of how he began....And just as a note. I highly recommend that if the movies are made. One of them should be dedicated for the Fall of Reach. Cramming his backstory into the beginning of Halo 1 in a 15 minute preface is a very bad miss at a great oppurtunity to film an exciting chapter in the Masterchief's History before Halo...him and Captain Keyes.basically what I'm saying is Make The Fall of Reach before Halo, just like the books. What better way to follow through on a cliff hanger like that than a movie? With CGI you wouldn't need to worry about actors, their height, what MC looks like (If he doesn't remove his helmet)things like that. If they do choose to go with actors though, those factors will be more improtant, they could easily fake the height thing, and if they don't actually show MC the actor could be almost anyone. Also the actor in the suit can be totally different to the actor out of the suit if they do decide to go that route.:P Most of this all has to do with wether or not they go CGI or live actors. Another point to add is the story line. When will it take place? before the fall of Reach? During? After but before Halo? So if Ridley Scott said "no" before the cash started flowing then he should be canned from the project now, regardless of how talented he may be. There are plenty of directors who can do the job (John McTiernan comes to mind). As for the story, if there's any "Master Chief's personal journey" bullcrap then you can count on a dismal showing. NO one wants to see some social/introspective look into Master Chief's sordid past or tormented home life and childhood. As for the aliens, The Elites will probably be guys in fancy suits (along with the Brutes, if they are in it), and the Grunts, Jackals, and Buggers will probably all be in CGI. I can see a lot of little people in Grunt costumes (like the Ewoks), but I think CGI would be the way to go. The special effects house should either be ILM, or Weta Workshop.
