I'm sorry, but as a Mass Media Communications graduate and current station manager of WPTC 88.1 FM, I must disagree with your assertion that mp3PRO will pass by WMA by simply cutting sizes in half. WMA's are much smaller than that, and with the long overdue exposure of MAC shortcomings (i.e. the I-Pods DO suck), WMA's are even more popular for use with portable MP3 devices. If it's a decent player it reads WMA.

Just want to double JJuarez's comment on a n MP3 disc man. I've got the Panasonic version and the MP3 quality can go as high as approx. 320kbs. It's cheap to use as you can use a CDRW and with a capacity of up to 700MB I can store over 20 albums on a single CD (MP3 format obviously). The CD's casn even have normal data on them as well as MP3's. That is good enough for me.

The difference between mp3pro and mp3 isn't that much impressing! mp3pro at 64\44100 has just the same quality as a mp3 at 128\44100. that's why it cuts half in space! an mp3 at 64\44100 occupies exactly the same space as an mp3pro at 64/44100. it's just the quality of sound that is different!

get a grip juarrez, flash memory is only 20 quid for a 32 meg card how's that expensive.Anyhow cd only goes upto 196kbps,mp3 hardware players can go past that,so how does that make cd players better? Think about what you say first

JJuarez: You must be the most stupid person in the world. Winamp is NOT COMPATIBLE with Mp3Pro, so you get those results. If you would had used the Thompson Player/Encoder for playing the files (all) You would had seen that the player enables a MP3Pro "flag" when is playing a MP3Pro file. What you got in your test is a normal MP3 and NOT a MP3Pro file.We must remember that the format is compatible backwards and fowards, but to get the best quality results you must use compatible player for it. For last, I wanna say that I have made my own tests and now the only thing I can think is that I am gonna have the bigger colection of mp3 (of course mp3pro) in the world cause I will spent half time in downloading the files. I hope that Winamp will quicky compatible with this type of MP3 (maybe in Winamp 3). NOTE: I don´t know if there is a plugin for winamp for playing this files but it would be a great idea. NOTE2: Sorry for my english

mp3PRO gave me a virus called "microsoft PS" it changed the background to a naked picture of bill gates, it overclocked all my hadware and then formated my hardrive in a way that it cannot be recovered!!! all the hardware is overclocked and useless!!! damn you bill gates you c**kadelic master!!! and when my computer shut down for the last time it showed a picture of bill gates smiling pretending to be hitler with a microsoft flag!!! and my screen saver changed of a vidoe of bill gates and his programers playing volly ball naked and my wife will not have sex with me anymore becuase she thinks I am gay! and now I can only have sex with my collie and it always barks when I try to pet it and my dog bit off my c**k!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well with the development of a hologram cd which can store 1Tertabite =to 1000Gigs u can shuw all thouse mp3/wma/mp3pro up where the sun dont shine. i mean with that kind of storage who needs the small cheap ass formats. it will be available in a few years im waiting... well not really but mp3pro kinda sux cause of the distortions
|
JJuarez

|
One more thing:CARE MORE ABOUT THE QUALITY... NOT THE SIZE!!! Avoid buying those propietary "Flash Memory Card" players, they are too expensive and can only store SMALL LOW QUALITY FILES on them. BUY MP3 DISCMAN PLAYERS INSTEAD. That way you can store TONS of HIGH QUALITY SOUND files ("Bigger" but Better) FOR CHEAP on A SINGLE 650-700 Meg CD, plus you'll be able to play your original CDs as well.

I don't like this Codec that much. Why? Because after doing some audio tests the results turn out not be as good as advertized.First thing I did was to use a .wav file (Voice)decompressed from an .mp3 (So as to test the distortion factor). I recompressed that file using the same rate as it originally was (64kbps) using BladeEnc into STEREO mode and then I made another one into 2 CHANNEL, then I made yet another file using the Mp3Pro Codec. The Stereo and 2 Channel files were about the same size as the Mp3Pro (They were 1 extra K bigger only) , but they sounded about the same as the "original" .wav file decompressed from the .mp3, yet the Mp3Pro one sounded with A LOT of distortion (Using latest Winamp version). I have to mention that so far the Mp3Pro Utily available can only encode at 64kbps (Plus it lacks encoding options), and it only encoded the file at 22khz rather than the original 44khz. So, in my opinion, ANYTHING THAT CAUSES HARMONIC DISTORTION IN OR ORDER TO "SAVE SPACE" -SUCKS!!!-. The BEST way to encode an Mp3 is by using BladeEnc or LameEnc (LameEnc for some reason leaves it's name on the Mp3 file -when seeing it with a hex editor- and it causes clicks at the end and beginning of some Mp3s)or Radiums Mp3 Encoder + Audio Grabber at 192+kbps USING 2 CHANNEL MODE, or STEREO!!! Mp3Pro at this time IS NOT GOOD.

I think it would be a much better program if you didn't have to convert your mp3 back into a wav file and then convert it back into mp3 format again. That player is useless...

WMA and MP3 are not that different maybe WMA is a little better but MP3 is so much better.Hlaf the size!! and I test it and it is the same quality. Stop talk about it without testing it. Wait and see for a good encoder with other bitrates!

But if you already own a old mp3 player, making them cheaper would only effect you if you are going to buy a new one, and then you would care if there was a format which allowed you to store twice the amount of music. ( Saving you having to buy more memory )

wow mp3pro just like wma no differance... this sux why dont they make the players ore cheaper not focus on making the media smaller since the older mp3 players cant play mp3pro or wma formats. this just sux
