TAKE NOTE YOU IMBECILES:This patch only works for the C&C "GOLD" or "WIN95" versions - NOT THE DOS VERSIONS! Pillocks. The clue is in the filename - does you box have "GOLD" on it anywhere? No? there's the problem.

i right clicked on properties for the installer files and put it to windows 95 and still wont friggin work!!! can someone tell me how to make the damm game work cause its pissing me off big time

i got the problem that the installation said "setup initializing error" and i dont know what to do with that. i did the things, Rider Viper said, but it didnt work. has anyone else an idea how o install it ?

I have it installed on Win 98 but when I put in the disk the first screen comes up and that is all I get. I click on "Play C&C:Win95" it doesn't do anything. What do I do. It played fine an hour ago.BRO

After hours of googeling this splendid page finally helped me install C&C again. Been some 3-4 years since Ive played it, and DAMN getting it to work on XP sure is complicated. Thanks to Viper for the great solution. :)

Hi i have windows xp home edition sp2 installed. Now i have bought c&c1 and i am trying to install the game. doesnt work. i cannot open the setup file. (it tries to start and a second later it all blinks back to windows) i am really bugged by this. what can i do about this problem???? (i have 1 dvd rom and 1 dvd rw drive)

Hey Everyone, OK I got it working today on my XP for the first time, so thanks to the guys who made the patch file.
So to help the rest of you, this is what you got to do:
1. Explore your CD for the Setup.exe and goto the properties of the application.
2. Click the Compatability tab and select Windows95 as the compatibility.
3. Then double click the Setup.exe and instal as normal.
4. Then click the Download tab at the top of this page and click on the ccgoldxppatch.zip link and download the patch.
5. Then extract the file thipx32.dll file to the installed directry and replace the original
6. Select the C&C95.exe and goto the properties of the application.
7. Click the Compatability tab and select Windows95 as the compatibility.
8. Fianlly run the game, and presto!
This work well with the original, but I have no idea if the LAN will work. And now after so long I can re-live the good old days of Command -&- Conquer

I am trying to install the original version of command & conquer but every time I click on the installer it comes up with, 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.' What does this mean and how can I install my game?

I know this is like latelate!! ( this game is like a 95/96 game! it's gone so fast)I played this game as a 5 and 6 year old, and I loved it. Now in my teens, I can enjoy it again thx to this awesome patch. U guys rock and stuff the guy who said this site sucks, guess what, HE SUCKS! thanks again

How do you change the pixel ratio on windows xp? It's stuck on 640x480 and i need it to be like 1600x1200. I didn't get the patch, I explored the installation and changed the compatability, so if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks

yeah ross... i've got the same problem... WHAT THE f**k DOES THIS PATCH HELP???? (for win2000)For all people who have WinXP... do a shortcut somewhere to the installation program and go on the properties of that shortcut... set compatibility mode to 'Windows 95'. It worked for me that way. With windows 2k SP2 not though. Howcome is this the only game i can't get running with w2k? it's my favorite =(
