It is due to a glitch in the Microsoft operating system, as discussed in knowledgebase article Q306676. You can download the hotfix here. http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Patch/Q306676/WXP/EN-US/Q306676_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe This will allow the pictures to be displayed properly. By the way, this problem was discussed in the readme.txt which comes with the game.
