See Final Fantasy VII for a great way to involve your audience to the point where they get almost emotionally involved with a character just before they kill them off. Yes I'm talking about Aeris when she gets killed by Sephiroth. Read around on a few forums. Some people have even stated they cried when she was murdered. I'd say Square did a good job there.

They allready stated that Alyx is alive and well in episode 2, because the trailer made it look like she died.

really? I wish they would kill off gordon, that guy is the worst science geek hero ever. In fact kill the lot of them off - but keep barney and that dude from opposing forces - those two togeather can take on anything... everyone else just gets in the way... no really they do too (unless ep1 has an AI improvement)

I'd bet that it's chicky's father that bites the dust.Unliek Kliener, he's not too useful to the part he started out in in Half Life (original) also, his death woudl draw chick closer to Gordon. as far as story drama goes, it seem teh most feasible. as for practical purposes, it doens;t matter. it'll still be a fun game.
