The video game industry is worth hundreds of billions of dollars in the long haul. Microsoft have only just begun to spend money on making the Xbox a household name. Rumor or not, watch closley as Microsoft takes over an industry they cannot afford to lose.

Xbox=200 dollars=less than a badass PC graphics card=looks as good or better=good deal=fun.

I'll take one.

True consoles are becoming more like high-powered technological beasts stuffed in tiny cages.
PS1 - Ultra Grainy Graphics (It's obvious with 256 graphics!)
N64 - 21 Bit Graphic had a very smooth appearance!
DC - A lot like PS2... shame they didn't sell more.
NGC - Killer Graphics! (...and I don't even know what kinda resolution that thing has!!!)
PS2 - Started out like a hybrid PS1, but soon came to have some of the best specs yet!!! Unlike X-Box you can play DVD's straight after you pull out of the box and not get ripped off having to buy a required feature.
X-Box - PS2 on steroids was my first impression. X-box is virtually the same as PS2 (once you take the time to play around with 'em), the vantage X-Box has on PS2 is the hard-drive.

*Personal Computers*
(Includes PC, MAC, Amiga and so forth)

The day consoles beat PC's is when Hell freezes over!!!!

Why?

Consoles are limited.
PC's (mainly PC) you can build 'em up like the way street racers build up their cars!!!!!

consoles don't even come close to the superior power of the PC's!!!!!

Seriously Pissed!

at 17:25 14/2/2003

US Government comes down on Microsoft with Office monopoly... Geez! And they aren't gonna roast their balls for this?!?

Platform Exclusivity is a killer!
It should not be aloud to happen!

Example: DooM 3 - Rumoured to become another "X-Box Only" game! Tell me that dosen't piss anybody off?!?

Microsoft are nothing but a bunch of inconsiderate pricks!!!!!!!

XBOX WILL WIN THE CONSOLE WAR!!!!!! oh shit...GCN? argh who cares. PS2 fans eat shit. u hear me? EAT SHIT PS2 PHREAKS!!!!

I really hope this doesnt happen. Microsoft seems to buy everything they see. I don't like the x-box, but if they aquire Vivendi they'll have a huge advantage. But i really hope mircosoft doesnt mess with Blizzard.

This was all a hoax put on by a college student, he made a webpage to look like a CNN.com article w/links and adds to other CNN articles but the truth is, it was lie. Microsoft is not purchasing Vivendi games. Although Vivendi say that the thought had crossed their mind to sell the game devision.

DeQuosaek

at 0:51 4/2/2003

It is true that systems made by "small" companies like Nintendo and Sega started most of the console gaming revolution, but look at the true old school master of the consoles, Atari.
They are smart and have their hand in many good PC games. Why? Because you cannot beat the graphics or the sound of a PC, period.

No console comes close. When they start using HDTV capabilities, they will get closer, but they still can't match PC quality graphics.

But still, the XBox is the closest.

All you XBox haters are probably all NVidia fans too.

It's just "Waaaaah! Someone made something better than what I have!" True in the case of XBox over PS2 and ATi over NVidia.

dev/null

at 11:43 2/2/2003

You're a fool captain flush. The Xbox is just another case of a big company ripping off a true game company. Sony did it to Nintendo, and Microsfot did it to Sega. What makes it so sad though is they go off and make horrible consoles that play rehashed shit while the little games who started the genre of console gaming are left out in the dust with the true fans begging. You know why they can get away with this? Because they have unlimited money for one, plus console gaming has become a refuge for morons to play Grand Theft Auto and sports games. This new generation of gamers are nothing more than preps and jocks with joysticks!

Why are are PS2 owners and Xbox owners such enemys, who really cares if Microsoft buys Vivendi Games, how will it effect PS2 owners. What is the big deal. Im from South Africa, and the Xbox hasn't even come here yet (it only comes in March), and im looking foward to it.

James

at 17:23 1/2/2003

Oh yeah. I should also mention that I think Microsoft should just stick with updating Windows. Even good games like Dungeon Siege gets boring.

James

at 17:20 1/2/2003

Blah...
Personally, I'd rather just play Counterstrike on the computer. I mean, come on! You own an X-Box and you're skipping valuable time off of your computer? Oh, and people will have to PAY to play Counterstrike on the X-Box.

Nuff said.

Microsoft needs to stop being power hungry or they are going to go down. It is such a mistake that if this goes through, they will try to take over HL and CS and all Bizzard titles, and make the popularity of these games extinct. Yea thats right how many ppl play HL(or any mod) a day ya thats 6million. They need to stop reaching for this shit, and leave the gaming to the gamers.

Anonymous

Seeing all losers argue over a game developer being bought over. GET OVER IT. Video game gets worst & worst every year. CS is just game & should be banned in many country in the world. I could care less about CS & its future. I hope they burn in hell.

First of all...Ah yes, of course...if you guys really dont want this to happen...consider perhaps...donating, or supporting vivendi, if not already bought, by the time this is posted.

Second...this will be a bad publicity move for MS...loyal gamers, such as myself, to certain companies that make games of my favor, and those who favor companies, sony, etc., would give MS a kick in the ass sales-wise, for their console, which they should have given up on anyway...ahem* it sucks ;)

Third, I really, think this is nothing to worry about. If you think about it, becuase what i reffered to, will happen, and the government already gave bill a few warning biatch slaps for monopolizing, which, of course, they wont let happen.

Ends my saying, and before you reply with something logical, letting me know if i had missed anything, or something stupid, and unappropriate, that has nothing to do with this, think about what i said first, think about other possibilities that are liable to happen, and perhaps, why you are still reading this, and not doing something about your opinion, like, e-mailing microsoft a million times, and supporting what you think, to them and your company, or trying hopelessly to convince others not to?

They all want $$$$$$$$$. EA want your $$$$$$$ & M$ want your $$$$$$$$. If CS get sold to either company, expect a crappy product w/ high online price tag.

Gypster:
I think your fault is that you are looking at the console industry as if it was the PC OS industry, but the fact is they are totally different.
If MS fu<k up in the console industry they will crash and burn. It doesn't matter who they are or how much money they have... think Nintendo64.
The OS industry is a tad different in that it is so damn fu<king hard to build a decent OS (it took MS 7 years to come up with a really good OS) that noone can hope to catch them with the lead they have. So they can afford to overprice etc

Firefly

at 0:20 31/1/2003

Gypster:
Um... I was being sarcastic about Nintendo....

..and I have no idea what you mean about "trusting" microsoft?? What I buy with my own money is my own choice, it's not like MS have a license to start leeching my bank account just because I own an xbox.
...
Over the christmas period in Australia you could buy an xbox, dvd controller & three games for $380AUD (that's about $220USD)... oh ye, that damn evil MS sure tricked me.

Firefly

at 0:13 31/1/2003

Gypster:
Thank christ you don't want to argue about it, all you keep doing is repeating what I said then putting a negative spin on it... I have no idea how to argue with someone who agrees with what I say :o)
............
Basically, the only point at which our opinion differs is that you see MS buying a game company as the action of an evil empire, trying to drain every cent they can out of ignorant consumers.
I see it as a large company doing business, simply trying to compete against two other well developed console manufacturers.

Everyone knows M$ long history as software makers. Blue screen of death is an example how confident M$ to their consumers. Seriously...they keeps growing, but their OS security is stoneage compare to Unix & Linux. The recent attack of SQL is another example of lack of security M$ has to offer. So why bother support Xbox? M$ make user pay for crappy product. Xbox design is extremely ugly. User perfer smaller & innovative console. Instead Xbox comes out with a big black box which is similar to Panasonic 3DO (released 1995). Controller is extremely cumbersome. Xbox live? Dreamcast make their console that COME WITH BUILT IN MODEM. Overall Xbox have great library of games cuz M$ bought over several firm. Their system is easy for some of the developer for Dreamcast. Xbox an innovative product? Nope.....the core system made of a powerful board developed by Sega. Xbox have similar spec as Naomi 2 board, but much powerful than Naomi 2. So before you think Xbox is the godly console, think the history how Xbox comes to be. From what I see, their product is nothing more than borrowing ideas from another company.

Anonymous

at 17:54 30/1/2003

M$ want to milk gamers whatever means necessary. Xbox is suppose to be Dreamcast 2. Seeing M$ will take over Sega, Sega refuse to have Dreamcast to be played on Xbox. This is a smart move for Sega. If not, M$ will take over alot of arcade games market.

MICROSOFT SUXORS

at 17:10 30/1/2003

lemme say something about microsoft, microsoft have never been sucessful in the making of PC games, i mean seriously, how many people got addicted to AOE2 or AOM? seriously, the only reason they're surviving on the market is because of bill gate being rich, i own almost all blizzard games and lemme tell you something, starcraft have never been funner, and with the coming out of WArcraft 3 Expansion, they're gonna make Age of Mythology look like piece of crap. Sierra have made alot of game i play too, i use to play Counter Strike 24/7, and nowadays you can find at least 200,000 people playing right now. so microsoft can kiss my butt

Gypster

at 15:14 30/1/2003

No Firefly, I think Microsoft are trying to get PC owners to buy their Xbox by taking PC games off the PC and putting them onto the Xbox. I'm not going to argue the toss with you over this, time will tell whether this is the thin end of the wedge or not.
You're right about Nintendo and I'm surprised you're so trusting of Microsoft. They don't give a flying one about the consumer, none of them do. Consumers are cash vectors for these organisations and that's it.

Great console gaming died with the Dreamcast, period. The only thing that's keeping the market from going down the drain is Nintendo, but no one seems to care. Everyone would rather have stupid games like Grand Theft Auto where you have "freedom". Freedom to do what? To run around and kill things, wow, that's a lot of freedom. I'd like to see one of those Rockstar goons play Morrowind, there's a game with true freedom!

I personally would like to see all console gaming die, but that won't happen because it's based around idiots and idiots make up most of the world. People who forsake PC's over consoles are just to stupid to install software...

Waxmaster

at 13:43 29/1/2003

So it's fine for Sony or Nintendo to pay off whomever it takes to make sure that games are exclusive to the PS2 (GTA) or Gamecube (Resident Evil), but when Microsoft tries to take over a DYING game publisher, it's pure evil. I suggest that some of the people here remove their heads from their a$$es and start thinking for themselves.

If Nintendo or Sony purchased Vivendi, you would NEVER see another PC game out of any of the Vivendi companies. You would HAVE to buy a PS2 or Gamecube. Microsoft, however, publishes a LOT of PC games and certainly wouldn't forsake that side of the market.

I can't believe so many people are naive enough to think that Sony and Nintendo are in this business for "the good of the gamers" or whatever other BS spin you want to put on it. They'll cut your throat just as fast as Microsoft, if not faster, being Japanese companies (remember the story of Nintendo's CD-ROM-based, Sony-developed SNES add-on, the Play Station?) The problem is that Microsoft has Bill Gates for everyone to rag on. Who the hell knows who the heads of Sony or Nintendo are?

Linux User

at 10:26 29/1/2003

When Xbox is no. 1 in console market. M$ will force all their games to Xbox. M$ don't care what user thinks.....they want to make money. They screwed user in the past & they will screw user again. So why bother support Xbox anyway? We all know M$ wants to take over the whole entertainment industry just to screwed everyone's fun. Therefore if you want fun you have to pay for it. EA done it to Sims online & all their sports game. You have to pay $40 for the game & extra $120 per year just to have play online. So you are pretty much screwed if M$ is doing the same.

DeQuosaek

at 9:18 29/1/2003

Ok, for all you people who think this means MicroSoft will force people to buy XBox versions of any games that vivendi produces:

MicroSoft makes computer games too!

MicroSoft is a PC based company!

They may have more titles available now for the XBox with the acquisition of Vivendi, but it doesn't mean that they will ONLY produce games for the XBox.

And the XBox is the best console available. The graphics are great and it has plenty of good titles. Most of the games that are made for PS2 are also made for XBox with better graphics.

The PC is still the ultimate gaming machine though and MicroSoft will not abandon it.

dude fadarka you are bugging. sure microsoft rules. rules the midden heap. they still have to learn some lessons in quality versus quantity. personally i don't hate microsoft, i actually enjoy some of the things they make. the xbox isn't one of them. its a really low end pc that hooks up to the tv instead of a monitor. wow. also the only good game that came out for the system was halo. that's it. and in july halo is coming to pc. and it will be better on pc (god am i praying for bots). yes i have touched an xbox. no i haven't got one. why? what games could i play that either aren't better on pc or have come out for all the consoles and play better and (regardless of the xbox's supreme power rating) look better on my nintendo gamecube. that's right nintendo. innovating gameplay and changing the way people look at games every fricking day. that's why i love them. which is also why i love pc games because the variety is huge and i have a monster pc that makes them all look damn good and play great. the trick about the xbox is they can buy whoever they want. every game developer they've bought or convinced to at least publish a game on the system has been pure crap. which means that if the publisher gets bought most of their developers will just find another publisher. as far as your comments about blizzard. . . i can only hope god will have mercy on your poor, pathetic, wretched soul.

Hopefully MS bought over ID software, 3drealm, Sierra, EA, Activevision, Infogame, Ubisoft, Lucasart, Sega & other firm. This way it will unify all the game market instead of having multiple console. MICROSOFT 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!
-----------------------------------

Never will Microsoft buy thosee game companies, ID software makes the best games EVER!!! and 3drealms have some of the best manistream games today, Activevision, EA, Lucus Arts will never give into Microsoft, as much as i love Microsoft's products and i will continue to buy new software from them, and if they did, and if they went to court, i will sure as hell be at their court date!!!

Another unpleasent turn of events along the road to make the game industry just like the movie industry. As if having corperate fat-cats like Sony and Microsft in the game weren't enough, Sega turned their backs on us leaving Nintendo and the PC as the only safe refuge. If Microsfot were to get their hands on Vivendi I can only fear what would happen to Blizzard (personally I couldn't care about the other parts).

enfiniti

at 9:43 28/1/2003

First and foremost as long as Sony and Nintendo still have deals with square they will still be on the top of the markets. Microsoft can't hope to beat a fan base as big as nintendo's or sony's. They are just too new at the console industry. The only reason they have lasted so long is b/c they have an almost unlimited supply of money to pour into the xbox. Another thing, a person can not compare a console to a pc. Two totally different setups. I guess i will let people mull over this for a little while before i add anything else.

Macor

at 8:7 28/1/2003

The same day as Microsoft begin SERIOUSLY buying companies to get games *exclusivly* on X-box Bill Gates will be hanged by a mob of angry "gamers", that's for certain. Why? BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL STILL HAVE THEIR PC:S/MAC:S!

A console can't hope to in-the-end match the PC. Well, perhaps for a while, but just look at the hardware development, and. Darn, I'm talking too much again. Anyway, "realistic" is right here. A developer of Blizzards high quality and skill would have no problem finding a new publisher. And yea, Xbox are for lazy people afraid of cables.

realistic

at 16:41 27/1/2003

dude they're not buying blizzard. they're buying the guys who publish blizzards games. if they screw with blizzard then all blizzard has to do is wait out the publishing contract and find another publisher. on top of that why would microsoft not let pc developers develop for games on the pc and not the xbox? microsoft makes money both ways and if it publishes on both they make more money! yet another reason why the xbox is just a cheap replacement for people who are too damn cheap to buy a real pc because they might have to learn how to run the damn thing.

.....

MICROSOFT SUCKS C**CK ALL BLIZZARD GAMES ROCK AND EXCLUSIVE XBOX RIGHT WOULD JUST SUCK>

jamlid

at 15:30 27/1/2003

I notice ppl commenting that Microsoft being Microsoft, there will be shit loads of patches for the games. Now I think that is total bollocks.

The reason there are patches for the games on the PC is because there are thousands of different types of devices/manufacturers, now I'm very impressed that Windows works at all, being that there a thousands of different configurations.

Now with the Xbox I think there will be zero patches (maybe second releases maps guns etc......) for the Xbox as the programmers/games designers have one configuration to target their games on.

1) I don't think I've ever seen a PC game that didn't have a version upgrade patch.
2) MS have some of the best testing methodologies in the business (when is the last time you saw a recent version of office crash??)... and because console games are written for one type of system only they rarly crash... so I doubt you will see any major version changes.

All that said, I think PC games released for a console will die a sad, miserable death and just be released on PC anyways.
Look on the bright side, at least MS are spending their $$$ to keep these failing companies afloat. Without the well timed cash injection they would just go broke and you would never see another title from them anyways... on any platform.

Firefly

at 3:18 27/1/2003

All this "f**k MS, they are trying to take over the world, they should just f**k off" business is just f**king stupid.
They are not trying to monopolize shit, and will not in the foreseeable future (unless sony stuff up of cause).
They are getting totally creamed by Sony/PS2, and look to be struggling to break even.
Personally I think they are just trying to get together a decent games division at MS. Nintendo have an experienced development team, and sony don't need one because they have 3rd party titles coming out their asses. MS are just attempting to be competitive.

Firefly

at 3:0 27/1/2003

I think I lost a few millions brain cells reading all this tripe.

Gypster: I thought you were implying MS is trying to monopolize the games market with the xbox (i.e Windows Style) therefor limiting consumer choice... but wait, your even more crazy.
You are hoping that competition regulators block this move because MS will release the games developed only on xbox... well fu<k me, if exclusive console games are now a crime we had better get together and lynch those Nintendo bastards because they are the worse "offenders" of all.

MS don't want ppl modding their games? f**ker dumb ass! they don't want their hardware moded like all makers, but their games are free for u to do what ever u want, but liie many games, some don't support being modded. anyways, Vivendi games can be modded since in the developing side, MS virtually can't touch them.
MS is pretty good at making games these days. Mech Assualt was made by them and Day 1 Studios, and that games kicks ass.
also, their sport titles these days are getting better and better with the recent NBA Inside Drive 2003 getting much better reviews around the world than NBA Live 2003.
and just in case u didn't realise the guy b4 me, consoles scarcely crash. games like Morrowind crash all the time without patches, whereas the Xbox version never crashed. Deus Ex had problems on PC, but on PS2, it worked smoothly.
and also, MS will not buy out everything. just b/c they have the money doesn't mean ppl will let them.
Square didn't let MS when they presented the offer for example. Vivendi and Rare let themselves to be purchased b/c they needed money. anyways, allowing themselves to be bought out and therefor being traitors to their former owners (rare to Nintendo) makes them just as bad as the buyer.
so think it through u dumb anals. just b/c MS has money doesn't mean it can get them anywhere if ppl don't let them.

HAHAHA....Imagine Microsoft comes out with different version of game. Half-life constantly crash on Xbox & require them to release Half-life second edition or Half-life XP. HAHAHA...... Half-life professional edition. Half-life server edition. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!

At some point in the near future, our brain will have a M$ autenticity certificate if something isn't done to stop those bastards.

This is so depressing...

M$ aren't creative in making game....they acquire company making game for M$. The always say $h!+ about copyright infringement & other $h!+. The truth is the stole ideas & they bought over other company for their own used. So why would anyone trust M$ with their Xbox? I don't care what you think of Xbox, but still user been fools thinking Xbox will be a console of the future. IMO it will lead to crappiness of game because there aren't any competition. If you look at EA games for exampe....I think most of their game sux cuz most of their game comes out yearly & multiple version of the SIM. EA simply acquire multiple firm just to make money. Any EA's online game require payment. Expect M$ to do the same.

at 10:4 26/1/2003

If all games are made to Xbox & there is no other competition. Expect them to jack up the price in the $100+ range per game. M$ will suck money out of consumers no matter what. M$ hate ppl modding their game & their product. Say good buy to the Counterstrike & Half-life mod community. Same goes with Warcraft b-net community. M$ will charge user for getting online. M$ doesn't care what game you buy, they want to make money in a crude way.

monopoly or not, in the console business, it makes not that much difference. developers (like namco, tecmo, sega, vivendi) will always be making games, quality games. so when MS buys them out, and the only thing left for consimers is the Xbo (which i doubt would happen) good games will still be coming out.
just that the owners of Xbox already, is the true winners :P

GREAT another f%uckin monopoly on the way :)

If M$ acquire Vivendi & let Vivendi run it course without changing Vivendi name into Microsoft....I'm fine with that. M$ doesn't do that. They want their name labeled every PC & Mac available. They want to block every competitor possibility to earn them the top spot. Well screw them.

devious

I don't like the way Microsoft runs things. If they want to jack the prices of Blizzard games any higher i'm afraid my life as a gamer will come to an utter end.

If they screw around with battle.net and Blizzard they're in for a world of hurt.

Take Dungeon Siege for example, great game but was downfall to the ****. Microsoft just doesn't know how to run online games and games themselves. The idea of computer games on the internet is giving me a headache. Warcraft 3 was not meant to be played on a keyboard.

They're trying to get people from the computer to resort to the console. I'll never.

I dont' want Microsoft to buy Vivendi, it's too much to lose.

one

at 17:39 25/1/2003

People please, stop thinking in terms of the one (vivendi), and start thinking in terms of the many (the rest).

Let me explain. If in fact, vivendi does get aquired by microsoft, and they produce games only for the xbox, then there goes one more company for the PC, and hello to the many others that will fill the void.

There was a time when other game makers for the PC were king. As we move along, our tastes change, and new games are produced, by different companies. and as we give them our cash, they start to make better games. vivendi/blizzard didnt make great games at the beginning, but we still gave them money, and now look at them.

There will be others to take the spot of vivendi on the PC market.

What microsoft doesnt realize is that PC games ported to the consoles dont work. people expect different things from PC games that they see on consoles. Pc games are far more demanding. control is just one aspect...if you think that slapping a keyboard and a mouse and a network card onto an xbox is going to make it compare to a computer, you are out of your mind....

I for one, like being able to change the resolution of my games to better detail (1600*1200) on my PC, as opposed to cheesy detail on my tv (640*480)......

now, if they get there act together and make games in HDTV, then we gonna have some fun, but until i can read the text from a computer on a tv, it aint happening.....

last point......if we had been paying for battle.net all this time, this shite wouldnt be happeneing, now would it?

the only funny thing i find is this....

how many different logins will i need to get into diablo now?

1. computer
2. dsl
3. microsoft's .NET application
4. battle.net
5. diablo 2 acct

wow, im real excited about this!

ill get off my soapbox now, thx

Cant happen

geezz...i dont want battle.net from microsoft.that would suck :(

Imagine all the PC games are made by Microsoft. It seem like we have no other choice, but to buy them. Who wins ultimately - Microsoft. I believe this is a sudden shift from software development to game development. It seem like they are too restricted in software making & decided to make money by making game & game console. If M$ bought our favorite games, what will happen. M$ will monitor every game you installed in your PC. Privacy is at stake.

if Half Life (2) ends up like halo (Xbox only and then after 1 and a half years on PC) Im gonna kill Bill Gates.

Some really deep shit is going to happen if M$ buys vivendi games!

lol

at 19:34 24/1/2003

Anyone who's happy about this needs to be punched in the face.

The last thing we need is mircosoft to poke their c**k in another ass.

Warcraft, Blizzard, Counter-Strike... who cares.. in my book they all suck.

Yes.. counter-strike sucks... 15 shots from a sub machine gun to kill one guy... yep, there's some realism there...

Want a real Half-Life mod? Try Day of Defeat. Now that's a mod... camo works, cover works, levels look realistic, and shooting someone... kills them! omg!

My Big Thick Novel

who cares, vivendi are equal to shit among console developers. makes sense ms would buy them.

CapeCrusader

I hope they buy them! Rare are in the works of making tittles for XBOX. Just look on the website. Now Vivendi! I hope they buy this one. Muhahahahaw!!

DRDEATH

at 12:57 24/1/2003

The only thing is that Half-Life and the rest of those titles that Vivendi makes are PC type games that do not translate too well on consoles. Never have. Halo being the exception. (And Halo would be alot better on the PC for various reasons.) Because of the controller setup, FPS and RTS tend to be too slow in reaction times and bothersome compared to mouse and keyboard setups. But hell, if you never played those games on the PC then you wont ever know the difference....lmao. Microsoft is doing what Microsoft does best. Trying to buy up as much software houses as possible and control the market. Bungie, RARE, now Vivrndi. Only thing is, Bungie only has Halo. Rare has not produced anything yet. (waiting game) Vivendi has Counter Strike and the rest. (Which console owners tend to shy away from PC type games, and the fact Vivendi has not produced a decent game in some time. So it's calculated risk. One which Microsoft can afford. Boy i wish i had that kind of coin to just piss around...lol

Are we going to have to start paying a monthly for Battle.Net?!?

MysticMentor

at 9:24 24/1/2003

No console could ever replace my PC.
No matter what homoerotic titles they put on the xbox. First off, i could care less if Halflife and CS both went Xbox only, i say, f**kem and let them have them, I am tired of all this CS and Halflife bullshit. the game is 6 years old. And when they try to make a sequal.. Eh, i doubt it will be any good Anyways. But thats just my opinon.

PhysiK

at 8:14 24/1/2003

Damn MS. This is just the beginning. It started with Bungie software and Halo. Then Blizzard and StarCraft Ghost. Now Vivendi.

Gypster

at 7:36 24/1/2003

Firefly, what are you gibbering about?

Consumers can buy Xboxes if they want them but they don't seem to want them do they, their choice, not limited by anything. So why should my choices be limited because Microsoft want PC owners to buy their console to play games they could just as easily play on their PC. I've got no brand loyalty, I don't care if Xbox or PS2 gets hammered by GameCube or whatever, it really doesn't concern me and I'd like it to stay that way.

Like I said before, all bollocks.

well all i can say is

IM CONFUSED

I thought Sierra published CS and all that. Then theirs also blizzard who own WC and SC series..... umm plz explain

This woukld be a nice buy - i hope it dosnt happen for the sake of GC

Firefly

at 6:12 24/1/2003

Gypster are you fu<king serious?!?! MS want to buy a game company and all of a sudden you think that they are trying to monopolise the console market.

Worldwide sales show they are getting absolutely HAMMERED by the sony ps2, somewhere in the range of 1 xbox to 10 ps2s... and you are hoping that the competition regulators will block this sale... jesus, talk about limiting consumer choice!

Gypster

at 4:54 24/1/2003

You gotta love Microsoft. They're great proponents of the free market philosophy and yet excel in it by limiting consumer choice. It's all bollocks.

Hopefully with Vivendi being a European company this might get blocked by the competition regulators, because I can't see the current US administration standing in the way of anti-competitive domination. Remember the MS anti-trust farce?

As I said, all bollocks.

i think this is a bad thing to be honest. Look at all the cool games Vivendi made for the PC christ we all own starcraft or diabalo and all this means is that nay deent games they have been making for pc will go to xbox no doubt about it. Halo all over again ffs its not even out on pc yet and thats what it was designed for. We get it only when the sequel comes out on the xbox. I own a ps2 and only use it for gta footie games and GT and use my pc for everything else. The more game companies that microsoft own the worse it gets for pc folks.

Coll

at 2:11 24/1/2003

no one is gonna play CS or Half Life on console, we've seen it all before on PS 2.... the controls are shitty and its just generally tricky to get the hang of.

anyone who seriously wants to play CS online will play it on a com-pu-ter

What do you mean who friggin cares. Just because you our a computer and Microsoft started its business in the computer realm doesn't not mean that the games will be going to the computer. Microsoft has the chance to make their console the best all based on one single issue, when choosing a console, its all about the games that are offered by it, and those are some awesome games that Vivendi makes. This doesn't mean the XBOX will be the best, it just means that it is going to be better.

Pramma

at 19:8 23/1/2003

WHO FRIGGIN CARES? GO BUY A COMPUTER..dumbass

ignatius

at 19:4 23/1/2003

oh my god! Sony and Nintendo are gonna take it deep in the ass if this works out. Most of the games made for playstation and sony came from vivendi so you can just bet that this will put a gigantic dent in their hopes of getting new games plus the copywrite for some games is still in vivendi's hands so whatever money made from the games will goto microsoft. Now that is what i call a smart buy!

DRDEATH

at 16:51 23/1/2003

Ah the first post. This will be a great coup for Microsoft. But this just secures the fact the the X-BOX is a PC, console. But who cares. Half-Life...Counter Strike..and the rest would be sweet.....Ah Bill Gates up to his usaul buying of everything. This better work for him as so much money is being pumped into this venture.....
