Again some of you are talking shit. CD-Key generators are released for every game, this will be no diffrent, so no-one will lose out.And who cares if the beta is leaked? everyone will still buy the game, since the beta is a pile of crap anyway (ive got it). Whats annoying is that VAVLe have lied twice, that said the game wasnt stolen (which it was)and that it was gonna have a september release date. Which it definatly was never gonna have, they would never reach that target , not as the less-than-half complete beta is dated 4 days before.

Don't believe any of this, I think what you might find what has happened, is that the bundling deal with ATI is so big that Valve will wait till whatever new cards ATI want to bundle it with are in production and surprize, surprize, we'll see HL2, what was that figure 6 what, billion or million, s.hit wouldn't you delay a game to ensure 1. A massive fan base of people dying to get there hands on HL2. 2. People running out and buying a new ATI whatever card to play this game? Which brings me to another point, hardware, from the early benchmarks I've seen (reports from sites such as this) most video cards, apart from very high end ones will simply not be able to run the game (at an acceptable framerate), simple maths people, they need to wait until you update your computer, and I mean when everyone has a FX5900 or 9800 PRO at least. Been in video games long enough to know, other games that were beyond there time (hardware requirements wise) were quite simply flops ("TA: Kingdoms" Anyone? No one had the hardware for this for ages, but by the time they did everyone had moved onto other games). For the longest time ID software have usually set the benchmark for games hardware (and remember the waits people?), you updated your computer to be able to play the latest Quake, maybe they are simply waiting for both ATI to bring out their flagship video cards and Doom3 to come out. (Valve will have to be careful not to get pipped at the post with a competing game) In either case I think we are being lied too, reguardless whether code has been stolen or not! Ooops! Sorry "Marketed" too! Oh and while we are all getting hot under the collar about this, has anyone thought about when the hell Doom3 will be out? (How long ago did we see previews, etc, of it?)

I think Valve did this because they haven't finished the damn game and because of that as an excuse they've given the source code to some hacker. Since its not finished its trash. Also this source code doesn't have to be the latest they got. They probably released a very very early version of the code. I don't know if anyone has tried it. It might not even work. I know there is a 1.4gb realease of the game which is the known to be the latest beta. still it doesn't mean that the source code is the latest.
Valve ok has done a good game called hl the other games? what are they? MS most games sucks it's just 1/30 of the games that ppl play. Blizzard's the same. Not too many games starcraft warcraft. But EA has plenty of games and some other companies also do. Well its a good thing that there is a beta. Everyone should download it and see if their current configuration runs the game smoothly. If not prepare to upgrade :)) lol Hope they release the game before april 2004 !!!! at leaest 2003!!

OK a lot of you noobs are confused.the source code was stolen. this does not mean it was deleted off valve's computers. this means it was COPIED. valve still has all the source code. Vivendi (valve's publisher - the people that get the game to the consumer) decided to up the release date to april/04 so that valve has time to re-write the source code so that cheaters/hackers can't cheat in multiplayer. This is the ONLY reason they would re-write the code. Other game developers can grab this code and plagiarise (copy) it for their game. valve can't just re-write code to stop this. so all in all, the code is being re-written so that cheaters in multiplayer won't be able to release cheats as fast, they'll have to spend their time reverse engineering and then write their cheat. yaay go f**king valve. don't delay the inevitable

Actually I have seen the source. A friend of mine got his hands on it, (not like it is hard to do now)and after sifting through some of it I came to realize THERE IS NOTHING IN THE SOURCE THAT WOULD PREVENT A HOLIDAY RELEASE. If you are a programer and know anything about games, almost everything that was released can be found in other places like a book on how to write a 3D game. None of the most important code was released like the network controls or anything even how the physics engine realy works. Alot of it is all publicly gotten SDK stuff. I realy think alot of this was staged. I think valve knew what was going on and they let what got released on purpose, what better way to delay a game with still saving face. Blame it on MS and Hackers.

What I was most terrified of has been partially confirmed. All I can hope for is that this is just an incredibly insane calculation by Vivendi, and the game still will be released this year.If not, then I will no longer argue with those who see HL2 as a new Duke Nukem Forever. Bullshit. They didn't manage to finish the game in time so now they came up with this grand theft story. Nothing was deleted, just copied, so where is the damage to the game? It's their own fault they set an exact release date and failed it like every other release date in history.
