Having played both the hack and Doom 3, I'm somewhat torn.
Although Trent's most awesome and bodacious SFX kick ass, I do like some of ID's sounds.
The Berserk power-up whispers Aramaic really fast and the Latin effects were nice.
As you should know, there is an Doom 3 Expansion coming out; Resurrection of Evil, or something like that.
I think that they should re-enlist Trent to input his awesome sounds into this expansion.

And personaly I beleive the restricted 4 player multiplayer has more to do with the presure doom 3 puts on a system currently. This of course is open to be modded which it probably already has been. But the low-res textures are probably also a result of the strain the engine puts on a system. The engine will probably show it's full potential when computers are powerful enough to allow it to. Which by that I mean in the form of a 3rd party game liscensing the engine. This is after all, how the Quake 3 engine has developed over the years.

Now that the games been out a while now I think everyone knows that (1) The ID Logo is skipable, which it wasn't in the alpha (2) The game doesn't run at 20fps on the geforce 6800, I run it on a radeon 9800 pro and it runs perfectly fine at 1024*768 with setting at high, and as we all know the geforce's are 'sposed' to run doom 3 at better frames as we are continually reminded. So please don't talk shit and give people the wrong idea about a game that you hadn't even really played at the time. If you really had all you had to do was describe a few of the scenes in the game.

I think Doom 3 is a great game for what it is, an old fashioned FPS (KEEL KEEL KEEL!). I really think they could have added to the environment with Trent Reznor doing the sound and music. It needs music!

just not like the genre if game, personally I like how Doom 3 looks compsred to STALKER because Doom 3 is a good old fashioned shooter, nothing really fancy but the graphics, i like Doom 3 because it is completley fiction like Half-Life, as you said ppls play "games like doom 3" beacsuse completley fiction games are fun and not realistic, but hell if you like
realism then STALKER may be for you, it is a bit more "realistic"

The only dumbasses that don't know shit about Doom 3 just happen to be everyone, except you guys here in the community!Go to some game forums and check out threads about Doom 3 and you get the 12 year old CS fan boys that think they know everything saying things like "Doom 3 is only going to have 4 players WAAAHHHH!!!!" but what they FAIL to understand is, is that Doom 3's mods can have MORE players on a server. You kick and yell and scream at them, but it goes through one ear and out the other. If it's not the fan boys crying about it's multiplayer, it's them standing on Mount St. Helens before it errupts and preach to the world that Doom doesn't have a story line, but their lack or research literally drives me up the walls, I give them the sites with the story line and they STILL scream that it doesn't when the proof is RIGHT in front of their face! A lot of people are saying that Doom 3 is going to be short and Half-Life 2 to be longer, but on average it's probably going to take 25 hours to complete on medium difficulty. R.I.P. Video gamers, you are now the most f**king retarded people on the planet right now, except for the id Software fans.

Has anyone other than me been to the d3 web page to look at the movie; Cancelled viewing it when you find out u need quick view. Then found out that there is an icon for quick view in the system tray? If u have then the only way to get it off the machine according to apple, is to download the full viewer; and then uninstall it. What a pain in the butt. As I did not agree to install it and because u could see this as intrusive and aggressive marketing. Does anyone think their could be a case to sue Apple. Please post any ideas about possible grounds to sue them on; and if there could be any compensation for their actions? sorted noob

With up to 4:1 compression possible, this means game designers can now include up to 4x the detail without changing the amount of graphics memory required and without impacting performance. now this will include skins, walls, sky and everything you see... it will improved detail and lighting effect to the next level. have you ever played doom or half life and looked at the texture of a door or wall. it might of been good back then but it sucks right now. this will add more details but with less of a performance hit. now the question you need to ask will there be enough games using it??? if not then shader 3.0 will be a better investment.

both companies went with different tech. nividia does shader 3.0 and ATI does 3Dc. both will gain more performance but what is better???i believe that 3dc will be better in the long run (if you still own a 2000 to 3000 cpu) it will increase performance more than shader 3.0 (with the best visuals of shader 3.0 compared the the gained texture surface of 3dc... 3dc will have more of a visual impact on the whole game than shader 3.0) but if not enough games use it then shader 3.0 will win.

what is everyone talking about??? the first doom 3 beta demo showed that the fx 5800 was faster than the 9800 pro... now we know that this is not true and infact the fx line can not run shader 2.0 with out a huge performance hit. all of these demo programs are set up to use the newest newest nividia drivers, now if we wait until the game is out we will see ati make a driver update for doom 3 that will change things (nividia in turn will do the same for hl2... because i know that the ati card will be better from the beginning as well).so both cards are good... the drivers just need to be updated to run games that were made for the other video card company. this is something to think about if you are looking to buy a new video card. ati x800 (or better) needs a power full cpu to run it at full power (AMD 64 to a P4 extreme edition) with every web site the best ati card with an AMD 64 3400 + cpu (set at a high iq) will out perform the 6800 (same card level... E.G. 6800 GT to X800 pro) now does that mean you should buy an ati... no... if you do not plan to buy a brand new motherboard cpu and just want to add it to your good AMD or P4 (2000 to 3000 level CPU)system, then buy a 6800. you will get better performance out of it than with any ati model now what is the fastest card???(even if you look at a doom 3 machine (set at a high iq)) it would be an AMD FX-53 with an ATI X800 XT-PE video card. but who has the money for it... for us average high end user a 6800 will do fine and be better, but if we already have those next gen cpu then get ATI. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjMyLDI= p.s. iq = AA and AF. the higher the multiplier the better the visual quality

Hey Ronald you lying freek, how did you get some guy to sell you his ONLY copy of doom3??? Did he only order 1 copy in total, or did he sell all the other copys to other liars too??Also it sounds like your PC is screwed! I cant believe id would release a game that would crash so often after spending 4 years in development. And how the hell did you manage to spend $100 trying to find a store that had a copy? did you hire a taxi cab around america?? or did you have to bribe the guy who sold you the one magical copy that exists? Most stores wont get the game until a few days before it hits the shelves, let alone the best part of 3 weeks before. Developers arent stupid enough to let a game like this reach the public before the official release - they KNOW that it would end up pirated to hell within 24 hours. Also as a 'professional gamer' you should realise the difference between a dedicated single player game and a multi-player game, id have always said this is a 90% SP game and designed it that way - maybe because the UT games are so dedicated to MP and current technology just wont run large MP levels on the Doom3 engine. Get with the times and dont spread crap about a game thats not out yet

you fucl<ing idiots the reason doom3 has no co-op is because the whole point of the game is to terrorize you. you can't play the game with a friend and expect to get scared. if the game was like the original doom and all you did was kill waves of enemies then co-op would have been fun. but don't forget this is not rainbow six or any of those the game is more of a survival horror. if you want co-op then you can do one of three things, don't buy the pc and get the xbox, two just don't play the game, or three just wait for star wars republic commando.

OMG! WTF are you doing with my name!? Just cos you don't have a Radeon FX6800XT. DUDE YOU SUCK! It's only the best card in the market! It helped me run the sims 2 on 70fps and full retail Halflife 2 at 63.2fps! that proves you wouldn't know anything about Doom3! Oh yes, EbGames already has it on shelves (at least where I live)... I went there like 10 minutes ago so I have full proof that doom3 exists (I would give you some screenshots but I can't)

God!How the hell do u think I've got the alpha version?I'm a professional gamer.I've won multiple multiplayer rewards before u come out from your father's back and now you say I can't recognize the alpha from the retail version?
I've got the retail version and anyone of u can have it if u really want it.Just get into some shops and say I'm a quakecon participant and I wanna have the game as soon as possible and try this multiple times with multiple retailer shops.Believe me I searched for the game for 6-7 hours and I heard 100 "NO"s before I finally succeeded.
I don't think u will remain so much fanatic when u play the game yourself.
Also someone here said that benchmarks show better results than I've got.I know that but the performance in different chapters of the game greatly varies.I played the first level with framerate more than 70-80 and I only had two crashes to worry about.But second level was a nightmare even when I decreased the details.Believe me 60% of the game is being played with terrible framerates even in best computers.

Finally...
I managed to get my version of the game and played it completely.As a serious gamer who wants to be 1st in quakecon I had heard that ID has announced for quakecon players that there will be some copies of the game availablke in some shops even sooner than august 3rd. I spent more than $100 to search every market in LA for the game and finally some retailer gave up against my insist and sold me his only copy.Here's my opinion about this title:
PROS:
1.Amazing graphics!Very good lighting effects and nice indoor environments.
2.Nice sound system.music and sounds both.
3.Some scary moemnts to make you a little excited(Not as scary as undying and the suffering).
CONS:
1.Relatively short single player mode and outdated multiplayer system.The single player took me 10.5 hours to complete and there's nothing really innovative about multiplayer.Believe me u won't play Doom3 more than a week.
2.Unbelievably terrible performance.I have a Nvidia FX6800-1GB DDR RAM-AMD Athlon Barton 2500+ and the game is played with the framerate of 20 most of the times even with medium settings.MY pc runs far cry-painkiller-UT2004 so SMOOOOOTH but this shit is killing me.
3.bugful like hell.my pc was hanging every 1 hour and I had 10-20 restarts before finishing it.
4.Every save and load takes more than 20 seconds and it sucks badly!
5.The ID and Activision logo in the beginning takes 20-25 seconds to disappear and u can't bypass them!God I can't even tolerate "EA GAMES CHALLENGE EVERYTHING" let alone to this.
CONCLUSION:
As a fan of the fps genre who has been waiting 4 years,I absoluely didn't expect the game to be like this.Believe me if far cry gets a rating of 10 in gaming industry doom3 wouldn't even get 5.

i belive that such a vision can only have one leader and trent wasnt the leader carmak was and he wasnt the one with the vision.

I would like to hear a really dark and nasty D&B soundtrack to Doom3, if you listen to some of the Dom&Roland tracks and then think Doom3 the industrial sound and hefty bass matches pretty well with the look and feel of the fights and scenery of Doom3

dear god, I think Trent Reznor would of done a good job and as far as NIN Vs. Tool Vs. Rammstein, im more of a rammstein fan than aything else(sehnsucht*LONGING* anyone?) and tool would fall in third, but i think that they would have made the best music for the game, their music would have a good ambience effect more than a NIN and Stein(face it Rammstein even Klavier is a little to fast paced for an immersive game, NIN has many beats in thier music that would distract from the game, Tools musical ambience would add the best effect to the on screen immersion), and yes Tool would make the best music because it compliments the game the best, (even though NIN is more menacing in thier music) the music of NIN and Rammstein would take too much focus off the core of the game, Tool would just compliment it, and about this being Co-Op bah, take it or leave it, the reason doom is co op on XBOX is to go to a friends house and play it and try to freak eachother out, its a game that centers around immersion *LAST PERSON ALIVE* it just wouldnt make much sense, a cyber Demon(god willing...) wouldnt be much challenge to two people at once, but against one its devestating and scary as hell with graphics like these

ITS MEANT TO BE A SINGLE PLAYER GAME... How scary would it be with 2 players?? not a bit. Go away and play CS like a good 10 yr old and leave the adults to appreciate a good single player game And dont bother saying "but the Xbox got co-op" Xbox is a kiddy toy by comparison to a gaming PC, so kiddies can play the co-op game untill they grow up enough to play the PC version

Anyone who cries saying Doom 3 sucks is either.A) A 13 year old CS Fan Boy who trashes all games. B) Sad because their system can't handle its greatness. C) Demented Half-Life 2 fan boy that is pissed because Doom 3 is coming out before HL2. or D) Just plain f**king stupid. Trent is an okay singer and a great demented song writter, id Software really choosed the right guy for this kind of job, what am I saying, id Software ALWAYS makes the right decisions.

old TooL is good, nin is a standby, rammstein can be enjoyable, cradle of filth/hardcore i dont think would fit the game, any of the above as BANDS wouldnt fit the game at all, trent (hahaha lead singer) was doing all the sound as mentioned. it wouldnt matter if you love nin or not, it would be nothing like any of the groups music. so it really doesnt matter, and in the end it wasnt done, so oh well. (old news anyway)

Who knows? We may still get to hear the nin version if they decide to edit doom3 and add their music. I guess only time will tell. One thing is certain though, if trent reznor is excited about playing this game than it definately will be something to see.
