So, no-one here actusally knows what a 64-bit processor actually is?The current version of HL-2 is written with 32-bit instruction code, which means it can process 32 bits every cycle. 64 bit means it can process 64 bits per CPU cycle. It runs twice as efficiently on 64-bit processors. Windows x64 is NOT just another version of Windows, It's a free upgrade to Owners of XP Pro so that Windows will run twice as efficiently on 64-bit processors, because it is written using 64-bit instruction code. Most of you are confusing 64-bit with 64bitHDR, which is not actually available in Source right now, only standard HDR. Programming is fun!

You cannot see light beams but you can see light rays with regards to atmospheric effects on them.

It said "One of the first games to use 64bit technology". It's not THE first, but it's among them. The screens are kind of off topic, and I don't expect major visual boost from that patch. Maybe performance, since you'll be able to use more than 4 gigs of RAM using a 64bit based OS. Then again... which game will make use of even 4 gigs in the next 12 months?

You NEED the 64 bit os to play it, cause microsoft is dumb and makes s**tty software. Now if the source engine used openGL instead of directX(thus running on linux) nobody would need to get a new os to play this since linux has been supporting 64-bit for quite a while already.

Yes, HL2 already runs on normal Windows XP, with a 64 Bit processor. FarCry wasn't the first game to fully support 64 Bit processors, there was only a patch relased to make it work on Windows XP 64 Bit Edition. What Valve have done is actually used the advantages the AMD 64 processor gives to help make the game run better.

any 64-bit processor will be able to capitalize on this. It's just that AMD and Valve have a deal but Intel will also cash-in...
