Okay, now you resort to making s**t up :Steam doesn't stop people from pirating the singleplayer portion, and it adds nothing to the multiplayer portion that couldn't be done within the game executable itself. Valve made a bad decision - Steam is trash.

"I think your forgetting that most single player games are easy to crack, but HL2 still remains relatively safe."Lmao. Do you keep up with PC news at all? If I remember correctly, HL2 was pirated by -ANON- and Steam was cracked (Emulated, rather) by Vengeance a couple days BEFORE its retail release. It was HUGE news, actually.

"LOL, sorry. Are you implying that good developers promote piracy in LAN situations? I think not."Promote piracy? I'm talking about playing the game with a few friends at my house - perhaps I want to introduce them to the game, UT2004 allows me to do that with a single copy. You can also play online, as long as your IPs are within the same range of your router. Need I remind you you only need one copy of the game to play other multiplayer games on consoles? How is this any different?

steam platform updates about every what- 2 month? games update about the same. And whats with playing the old version and not updating? are u focused on owning noobs by exploiting map bugs and such that are fixed in the update that you dont want to download? But steam does suck a bit on lan- lots of problems before you finally get it working. But steam works more for individual home pc users than your nerd lan parties :P . And for you cheap retards who buy packages of steam games from other countries instead of downloading them using steam program- stop wasting your time and money. Btw-ut2k4 does kick ass :) PS- LOOSE 56k and get a freaking broadband connection.

OMG ur all a bunch of whiney noobs.steam and its cohorts CAN be copied from one pc to another, and played on a lan with 1 copy of the game. you just have to get online so it can get like a 2mb update to make sure everything is there. UT2004 is great, no lame background stuff, no schit-noying updates that force you to wait. I DONT WANT THE F-UC-KING NEW 90mb UPDATE FOR HL2/DM/CSS I JUST WANNA PLAY GARRYSMOD!!!!

LOL, sorry. Are you implying that good developers promote piracy in LAN situations? I think not. And I think you'll find I ONLY mentioned LAN play, as I'm aware that the online CD key check works. I think your forgetting that most single player games are easy to crack, but HL2 still remains relatively safe. Apart from the precracked warez that floats around.

UT2004 has master-server CD key checking which is the BEST way to encourage pirates to go out and buy the game. Steam is just absolute trash, and the pirates can STILL get to the singleplayer portion of the game..so Steam desn't really prevent ANYTHING that isn't possible for pirates in every other FPS on the market.
|
Anonymous
at 15:28 14/1/2006
|
@ Anonymous..Sorry, but you have NO idea what you're talking about. UT2004 allows for multiple copies of the game with the SAME CD key to be run on a LAN. Epic does this because they are GOOD developers, who respect their fan-base. Steam does the same job in keeping pirates out as UT2004 does in online play, just with ALOT more headaches for the paying customers.

I notice that the uber super duper platinum set doesn't include Half Life Source. The original Half Life blows the sequel away with a double barrelled shotgun, a constantly moving plot that immerses the player, diverse enemies each with their own AI and behaviour, cool weapons the lot. Then you gve it the awesome Source gfx and physics and you have another best seller, if you actually sell it that is...

And UT2004 can be copied directly from one PC to another, had the CD key changed and be played on a LAN quite easy. You can't do that with CS:S now can you? It's called copy protection, and it's one possible solution to game piracy as it stands today.

LOL Steam is trash..anyone who isn't obsessed with kissing Valve's ass knows this. They could've implimented EASILY all of the features Steam provides directly into the HL2 engine. UT2004 proved that it could be done - But Valve was just too damn lazy.

If you people knew anything... Steam doesn't suck. It does it's job fine. If you're b***hing about the downloading of patches, let steam sit open over night. that way, in the event you want to play without hassle, you can. and if you're still running 56k, please do get with the program and upgrade to at least cable...

Anonymous at 3:39 13/1/2006Yes! Thats my point exacly. Steam wouldnt be half as bad if it asked you "theres an update available would you like to download or play right away?" instead of "Im updating wait up, you cant play until im done"

I had to reinstall xp about 6 months ago. Installed all my games that where on the pc before with the exception of half life 2.It just doesnt seem worth the trouble what with the registering and all them 100s of mb of downloads of crap that i dont even want. All the other games required maybe 1 patch which i have on pc zone disks anyway.Simple quick and no hassle. Thank fvck HL2 is the only game i have that uses steam like service. Imagine having 10 or 12 such games. It would be a nightmare!

People who defend steam without backing it up are obviously half brained monkeys. The idea behind steam is good, provide new content online at all times. But the fact that i have to login every time i play... its the same as saying "Hey valve may i play hl2?". Its funny how people choose to follow the easiest path even if it costs their own freedom.

Steam sucks because it FORCES you to update before allowing you to play, even if you just want a quick game and no updates. I sure hope steam dies.As for Alyx surviving... Her father and that other bald scientist might've fixed their teleporter, one things for sure, she wont die.
