DOOM3 & DIRECTX 9.0c WILL BE OUT SOON! FARCRY PATCH 1.1 IS OUT! BUY AN NVIDIA!Nvidia and its partners will be overjoyed to hear that Doom 3 will finally be available on the 3rd of August. This game is very important for Nvidia since this is where its rendering marchitecture will actually pay off. From NV30 upwards all Nvidia GPUs are able to render texture values without Z or Color information. The NV40, Geforce 6800 series has full 16 pipelines that can process one texture and can render as much as 32 textures without Z or Color info. This means that in Doom 3, Nvidia's tech is likely to be much faster then ATI's R420. As much as 50 per cent faster! Plus DirectX 9.0c will be bundled with Windows XP Service Pack 2 which will be officially released by Microsoft anytime soon. This will also indeed be a big advantage for Nvidia.
The people that are getting MSDN packages from Microsoft are already able to download it.
All drivers from 61.34 have support for Shaders 3.0 which again is a big advantage for Nvidia. Ubisoft also recently released the new 1.1 patch for FarCry. Patch 1.1 improves shader speed up to two times for Nvidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings and that now works with Nvidia drivers. NV40 support and some other fixes have been added, but most importantly support for the PS3.0 shader profile. Shader 3.0 games might arrive sooner then we all expected since Nvidia's $20 million can be very persuasive and help developers and especially publishers to upgrade their games from Shader 2.0 to 3.0

Now then... The DRIVERS:
They suck. I installed them as soon as they were released (Not Betas) and they improved performance in some games, but then casued others to crash to the desktop whenever they felt like it. Removing them and replacing them with the old versions made everything work fine again.

This removed all traces of the drivers, which is excellent when you want to install new drivers.

Lets see if Nvidia's ego can die down to the size of a aircraft carrier and they use a standard form of propietary language and not their own. Which f**k them the same way as it did for 3dfx. Ego, is what screwed Nvidia this time around. No one liked to use the time intensive Cg graphic programming. Which didn't even bring the level of porformance to ATI cards level anyways. Look at the fiasco it took Vavle to use Cg and mixed precision to even run the game on NV3xx hardware. And HL2 is fully DX9 compliant. So what do you think is going to happn' with other pure dx9 games coming out in the early new year?"Getting back ontopic though, the IQ of the nvidia drivers now is exactly the same as ATI's, go and look at the reviews there isn't any image quality difference anymore." You know as the release of "pure" dx9 titles come out, and they are coming out now, Nvidia will have to lower IQ for those games to run well. You know this. Don't you? Why? And they still don't give the same level of IQ and performance as ATI cards.
Bottom line. FX chips are flawed for DX9 gaimg. And considering DX9 gaming is the immediate future, Nvidia made a gamble and lost with this generation of cards. They tried to get one past Microsofts proprietary language and got f**ked. Like Microsoft was going to let Nvidia get in that market! Same thing happened to 3DFX. Microsoft has too much moneyt and clout and screwed them....

4600ti is outdated. By a LARGE margin now. You can get a 9600pro for less then the 4600ti and the 9600pro destroys it in all bench tests and it also runs DX9 games. The 4600ti does not.

It all depends on what kind of cards you have. The Radeon Series has much better AA/AF Performance, and i'm guessing Nvidias next series of cards will too. Turning up the resolution on my 9800 Pro hits the performance harder than say adding 2xAA/4xAF. My personal favorite settings are 1280x1024 with 4xAF and no AA.And why do people get so worked up on here when every 12yr old kid comes in and shouts his mouth off? Your only helping them as i'm sure they're sole purpose is to piss people off. Just ignore it like you would any annoying child.

He may have a point on that AA thing. Whenever I run into a game that lags I just jack the resolution up to 16X12 and turn off AA. They run beautifully and I can't really tell the difference.

AGP texture acceleration in dxdiag will never be enabled, since your 9800pro's architecture makes this option useless and slow for newer cards. In other words, your video card does the work better than dxdiag can.

3dmark03 (patch 440) score is now same as the it was with 430 version of 3dmark on 52.16 drivers. Futuremark disabled all driver optimization i their 440 releas of 3dmark, because of that score was by 30% lower on nvidia cards. Now it seams nvidia found a way to bypass futureamrk's bypass!

I had the beta version of these drivers for a few weeks, they seemed to be ok with most games but some of my older games would not run and my dvd video is really grainy looking with lines running all through it. I was hoping the offical driver would change that but im still having the same problems. Doesnt anyone test these drivers out for dvd playback? I can seem to find any drivers other then the 52.16 that work great with my dvd but then my battlefield mods are messed up.

IQ still is in ATI's court. Gamma corrected Anti-Alaising is far better then the 3 year old method Nvidia is using: Order sampling Anti-Alaising. As for Doom3, you need to read what John Carmack wrote about Nvidia cards running it. "GD: John, we've found that NVIDIA hardware seems to come to a crawl whenever Pixel Shader's are involved, namely PS 2.0..

-John Carmack- What that means is Nvidia fx cards run ALL their games in lower floating point precision then ATI cards. ATI always run at 24 bit. And considering Dx9 games require a minimum of 24 bit floating point, Nvidia cards are not running at that. So why call it a DX9 card then? Floating point effects quality big time. Let's not even mention the fact that Nvidia cards have to use partial shader operations such as PS1.1 and PS1.4 instead of the required DX9 shader specs of PS2.0.
To clearify what you said. Nvidia does not have better IQ. "Even the folks at Gas Powered Games have chimed in regarding this issue. Here's a quote from James Loe head-tech-pimp-daddy over at GPG:
“Precision has a pretty big impact on the current nVidia chips, so it’s important to use half precision data types and the nVidia specific 2.0a HLSL compiler when running on NV3X hardware. Keeping those limitations in mind, it hasn’t been too difficult for us to maintain an acceptable level of performance.”

They replaced it with darkness so to run the game at a few frames faster. The Nvidia way. This is what Nvidia calls "optimizations" at the expense of IQ. Sorry, but i want to play my games the way developers designed them for. The way they programed it for! No short cuts. Not taking out tectures and certain effects just to increase speed. That's the 3dfx way. Now the Nvidia way. Have we not had enough of this type of cheating for the past year and a half? I have. That's why i got rid of my 4600ti. And get this. You STILL can't enable true Trilinear filtering in Unreal2003 with Det Drivers. And that goes with most games too. You are forced to use Nvidia's own version of Bilinear filtearing even when you force it.

These Det drivers are sweet. They increase my 3dmarks2003 scores by 30%. *cough* *cough* Way to go Nvidia. Now all you need to do is put that performance increase in f**king games without killing IQ.
And for a benchmark Nvidia said was useless and dropped out of the program, then rejoined when Futuremark kissed Nvidia's ass and let them continue to use "optimizations"

anonymous that asked about stereoscopic drivers, try looking in the consumer 3d stereo section of the drivers area on the nvidia website. Apparently nvidia seperated the sterioscopic support so that people who do not have it will not have any temptation to fool around with it. As for any improvements with these drivers, I will test it on Postal 2 and give it the fire test. If I can use gasoline and burn the entire hub and walk through it without any severe lag then by all means they are f**king improved but if not then its back to the basics.

Try to install directx9 and see if that helps, sometimes the controller for agpis disabled due to an error in the installer so try install it again if that doesn't help try to uninstall your gpu then restart windows and then install it again.Hope this will help.
