Hi YA You can make a image of your XP OS before you upgade, Then fdisk and format said Drive. Vista upgrade can be installed on a clean drive as long as you have formatted the HardDrive as NTFS, Then after installing Vista make another Image of your HardDrive. If you dont like Vista (I did'nt) you can return to your first Image (XP) and later go back to Vista (What ever you fansy).Injoy

You can install Vista Upgrade without losing your XP key. Just clean install Vista without the key (Pick which version you need) then while in Vista run install again from the Vista DVD from within Vista and then enter your Vista key when asked.

gareth, your an idiot. Its not about using XP while your running Vista. If you dont like Vista and you format your hard drive and reinstall XP, it means your key wont work anymore if you try to reactivate it. I'd like the link to your awesome website, Lo0ser .

So if I want to revert, that means I must have to contact the BitTorrent tracker I downloaded it from, and ask permission.

@ Anonymous below me. After you install Vista your xp can't be activated and you won't be able to use XP after 30 days. This is fixable with a WGA crack but for the majority of people won't know how to use it or don't know about it. You don't need to format every 6 months as long as you keep good care of you hard drive. So basically after you install Vista you XP cd key is black listed.

pffft so what? this article doesn't tell me s**t. I mean, once someone upgrades to Vista, why would they want to go back? Why would you spend hundreds of dollars without first researching if it's worth it or not? Sure there are problems but they'll get sorted, this happens everytime a new OS is launched. Geez have a cry.Do u see people still using Windows 95 these days? i DON'T THINK SO. And plus, even if u want to use XP after not liking Vista, just do a format. It's not rocket science. Vista doesn't allow you to degrade back to XP but there's nothing against formatting and installing a fresh copy of XP. in this day and age, most ppl should format once every 6 months anyway.

Anonymous it is called a cracked version. I have never bought XP but I plan on buying Vista. You can use the same serial just get the WGA Patcher lol. It is easy. I can download all the updates with a pirated version.

You all say a lot of stuff, but to all the people who think it's that easy to go back to XP by re-isntalling it fresh, i ask you, no, better yet, i dare you. Any of you "brave" enough to go and use that license you bought and upgrade to Vista and then try to go back to XP and still beable to use WGA? You can even use VMware, simple as that, any candidates?

As stated by Anon in the first post. It was more a step to prevent people getting upgrade editions and either selling them for use, or for use yourself, on a different PC. A lot of people in the past have purchased an upgrade copy and gone on using both OS's on different PCs. Anyone that wants to cover themselves legally wont do it anymore, everyone else wont notice the difference. I'm sure its just a change in a legal doc*ment, I doubt they'll track it via the genuine validation tool.

They can't stop you reinstalling XP, however legally you will no longer have a valid license to be using it. Something which won't bother a whole lot of people, millions of Windows XP users haven't had a valid license ever anyway!

You guys are lame and so is this article. It just states that you cant go back to XP because the EULA (end user license agreement) is now for Vista. Of course you can format and install XP fresh, thus using the EULA written specifically for XP. " Upon upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software you upgraded from." And how many Microsoft upgrades were reversible anyway?

wtf im kinda confuse....how are they to stop people from reinstalling XP???That is just retarded and nonsensical. Besides that I really cannot think of a reason why a person should not be able to revert back to whatever OS they want.

Seems like this article is a load of FUD to me. I read it as you pay less to upgrade but in return you cant go selling your XP license to someone else.If people desperately want to downgrade back to XP then you will just have to backup your data and do a fresh install of XP.
