Yes DX 10 can help in performance, just like 64 bit will help over 32 bit. the problem is that developers will either push the envelope or keep it the same. a DX 10 shader will use less GPU, ram, cpu, etc... but instead of using the same amount as the current games have they use more. so what ever performance gains you would get turns into a performance loss.

personally i like this, but for most people they never see the bonus.

why use multi core cpu's, 64 bit... when they do use it, it is to push the envelope not to gain performance.

Windows 7 has WAY better memory and system resources mangement.

Vista is a system hog which makes almost everything slow unless you have a fast machine to start with. Win 7 is way more flexible with low/mid range machines.

If Vista is that good, then why has it going to be replaced after 2 years, when XP has lasted 10 and it's still going strong on the new mini-laptops?

All my games have been playable on my vista machine since day 1. The bugs were mostly going within 3 months. 20-30fps hit is a total bs number not even related to anything. You get a bigger drop in higher fps and the difference gets smaller as the fps goes down. So maybe in counterstrike I'll notice an extra 30frames on my already 200frame dust 2? My friend switched from XP to Vista and his overall frames went way up. I guess it really depends on your hardware. Not so much that its good, but that it works well with vista.

Problem with switching is the price hit...

well I have that high end pc. but that doesn't mean I'll use Vista and dx 10. why would I want to suffer 20-30fps hit, rendering my games unplayable, for the most minor graphical increases

The so called performance increase with Windows 7 will be transparent to the gamer. Sure developers will be able to extract more performance out of future games, but in the end they will push the hardware just as much as they've always been. You'll still need a high end PC for exclusive PC games. Notice that I'm not including console ports.

I΄ve been using W7 for quite some time, and the experience has been quit good, I΄m not having the same bad experience like I had with the first released Win Xp or Vista. The only prob is that some games won΄t run, but that΄s the price of evolution

if windows is as fast as everyones been claiming. then I'd agree, switch quickly so that there is a reason to work with dx10. as over time, games should not only look better, but run faster with it as well
